the only thing that bothers me here is he didn't think we had a profound issue at OLB last season and only an injury to a relatively worthless at the time Okafor pressed us enough to get Freeney.

I personally would have loved to see us load up on D... really go for an almost Denver level of pressure on the outside with Freeney and Jones rather then just depend on guys who haven't yet shown the ability to get to the QB, but it didn't happen. Hopefully it doesn't hurt us in the long-run and Golden develops into a consistent pressure AND sack guy.

As much as it sucks to not get Freeney, his presence would've been more of a luxury than a need. Last season, Freeney was needed.

I would have signed him only to an incentive-laden contract like last year. No problem with him not being on the roster.

Part of me wanted Freeney back because he is a good leader, can help coach up the youngins and does still have some gas left in his tank. I just think one or more of the youngins will step up and we will be glad we kept them over Freeney. Also, I agree with oaken1 in that we may have had to cut a talented player at another position to fit Freeney.

I know... I was just frothing at the mouth of having two legit pass rushers on the edge with one of them not just being legit but a possible monster (Jones).

I guess Atlanta is kind of a contender? They do have a QB and good WRs

NFC South is pretty wide open. Carolina should come down to earth this season. New Orleans is on the decline and the Bucs are up and coming but not ready so Atlanta is the logical contender to Carolina. They were the only other team to beat them last season. That said, going to miss him in Cardinal red because the Cards have a better chance of winning a Super Bowl than Atlanta.

$2 mil base + $2 mil incentives. Depending on how the incentives portion was structured, we wouldn't have been able to make it happen.

Damn... he didn't even get big scratch. Spending money on a guy like Corey Peters who's probably seven plays away from another season ending injury instead of a pass rusher like Freeney could bite us in the ass in the long run. Hope not, but it's hard to see us still with only one legit pass rusher and one great CB while seeing guys like Freeney and Powers sign for relative peanuts.

Golden has been working on the Freeney spin move all off-season & there have been numerous radio guys raving about him using it well in practice. I know Freeney was trying to teach it to all the guys last season. Hopefully it translates into the games... set them up with speed to the outside & then spin back inside.

Even if a few rookies have gotten better, I think it was a dumb move on not signing him. He had 8 sacks in 11 games. Would he do that again, I think so now that Jones was on the other side. Just stinks.
