You can never have enough firepower on offense, and the Philadelphia Eagles may be adding more through the NFL Draft next month.
According to ESPN Draft Analyst Jordan Reid, Texas RB Jaydon Blue has a top-30 visit scheduled with the Eagles, Texans, Broncos, and Steelers.
Blue spent his collegiate years splitting backfield snaps with Jonathan Brooks, CJ Baxter, and Tre Wisner, but that didn't stop him from displaying his explosive ability.
After having just 15 carries in 2022 as a freshman, Blue's role expanded the following season. He ripped off 398 rushing yards on 65 attempts (an impressive 6.1 yards per carry) during his sophomore year, including a 100-yard performance against Texas Tech.
As a junior, Blue's production earned him more opportunities in the running and passing game. He recorded 1,098 scrimmage yards and 14 TDs, culminating in a 146-yard game in the College Football Playoff against Clemson.
Here is Jaydon Blue's Scouting Report via Lance Zierlein of NFL.com:
Blue played behind very good backs, so his carry count is lower, but he clearly has talent. He’s a narrow-hipped, linear runner with good speed to threaten wide and attack downfield out of the backfield. He has adequate wiggle in the open field but lacks base strength to break tackles.
Blue’s lack of tempo and vision inside gets him behind schedule and could limit how teams use him as a ball-carrier. While he can be labeled a “change-of-pace slasher,” his real value will revolve around his ability to mismatch linebackers and threaten defenses as a receiver out of the backfield.
The Eagles extended star running back Saquon Barkley this offseason and signed former Packers tailback AJ Dillon to a one-year deal. With second-year player Will Shipley also in the fold, there isn't much room for another player in Philadelphia's backfield.
However, Blue's developmental traits could make him an intriguing home-run hitter for the defending Super Bowl champions.
