Doucet will give Breaston the competition he needs to be on top of his game as the third receiver for the Cards. Competition at every position, that's what makes a winning team.

Doucet was drafted and signed to replace BJ. Not Boldin.

Granted we needed to replace BJ, but BJ was ostensibly a speed merchant that was supposed to stretch the field. Quan is a tough possession-type receiver. Of the two, Doucette's game is supposed to mirror Quan's a heckuva lot more than BJ's.

FYI: It's Doucet... a quite common Acadian / Cajun name found throughout Atlantic Canada and Louisiana.

NY Jets - I don't know what to say about that situation. Ridiculous.

Dallas Cowboys - They better win the SB this year because they are going to be in some SERIOUS fincial trouble down the road. Not to mention they are commiting the sin of out pricing your fan base.

As long as these teams have more money to throw at it they will never be in any cap hell. Just look at the Redskins are they in cap hell yet like most were predicting. It is all about contract structure and if an owner can shell out large sums of gauranteed money players are more willing to structure their deals to be cap freindly, such as backloaded deals.

The Cards were second in the league of times they came out in a 4WR set. We'll probably see plenty of Doucet and Breaston on the field at the same time.
If our D plays better/stays somewhat healthy and Leinart stays under center I think we see less 4 wide sets and more singelback 2 TE formations. I do like our chances though w/ 4 wide, considering our current personel.

I looked in the Arizona Repulsive this morning and there was not one word about the Doucet signing. They did however, have half a page dedicated to Brett Favre.

Third-round and later picks frequently sign three-year contracts. I would guess that this also has something to do with the CBA running out--though those players would still only be RFAs after that period.

Earlies draft status averages a 4 yr deal from what I read.

IMO it's better to sign them to a 3 year contract. According to the current CBA, and unlikely to change, after 3 years the player is a RFA, as Daisy pointed out. After 4 years, they are UFA. So by signing them to 3 year contracts we have more control.

That is one insipid rag!

The re-formatting of the EV Tribune has totally screwed it up (Ask Amy, a Dear Abby clone, and astrology charts in the sports pages  ) , yet I still refuse to purchase the "Repugnant".

Nice. I loved him at LSU. I loved Boldin watching a lot of FSU games when I lived in Florida too. I have really good feelings about him. He might end up being Boldin's replacement down the road if the contract mess doesn't work itself out.

I do not see the Cards giving Boldin the big dollars he can get. They would end up with two much money invested in wide receivers. That is the unintended consequences of giving Fitz the very large contract. I also wonder about the three year contract for Early? Seems like you would want to sign a high draft pick to a longer contract as he is more likely to succeed than one drafted lower.

As much as I hate to say it, I think it's a real possibility. And it really bothers me. Boldin is my fave player on the team, me and my two sons wear his jersey. Still, it may be tough to keep him...

The 4th year should be restricted, so we will be fine.

The steal of the draft

In my opinion, it was completely insane that Doucet lasted to the third round. The guy is a stud and in all truth might be a much better WR than fellow LSU WR Dwayne Bowe of the Chiefs who is a good WR. The Cardinals got lucky and had the sense to act on it and draft this guy.
