First, let me say that I generally agree with cheesebeef's perspective as relates to officiating. That is to say, If you want to be an elite team then overcome the bad calls against you! Period.

But, at the same time I wonder why the NFL officiating can't be better? I watch a lot of NFL games and a lot of college football games. The NCAA system for calls and reviewing calls is so much superior to the NFL right now, and has been for several years now. Under the NCAA rules they get the calls correct more often than not. Why can't the NFL do better?

Guys, you're wasting your time arguing with Cheese over officiating... I did it for years on the Suns board. He will never blame officials for any loss (no matter how badly they screw us) because he sees it as being weak. To him, it's something crybabies do. We could have 99 penalties for 600+ yards called against us in a single game (while our opponents have only 3 penalties for 15 yards) & he would still say that the players should've overcome all of that & it's on the players.

He'll never understand (or at least he'll pretend he doesn't) the mental breakdown that happens when you're constantly getting screwed over by officials all day long. He thinks the players should always be mentally tough enough to win despite anything.

This 1000% The problem is the players let it get in their head and the next play is basically wasted too...Especially when Arians is cussing and screaming at the ref and the play clock is ticking and he calls the plays!!! Palmer is angry and the WR's are screaming for PI and then the next play they are suppose to be 100% ready. Also you are not taking the fact that after happens 3 or 4 times you start to feel you won't get any calls and the defense feels like they won't get called for anything and they do it more!!! Numerous times Gresham and Fitz were getting mauled before the ball and no flags. In fact the crazy thing is....they got a flag near the end only after the refs threw a flag on us for holding! The Steelers were getting calls left and right and the Cardinals still had 300 yards of offense at halftime. They thought we will break through and be fine but what happened the Steelers got some confidence and the defense started getting frustrated. They didnt tear us apart everyone here is saying our defense sucked. The Steelers had 305 yards of total offense and 88 of it came on the last play!!!!!! We had a 35 yard TD missed because FLoyd was out by 3 inches. We had another 15 yard TD called back because of a bogus push off and then we had John Borwn open and missed 1 throw. Carson was still 29-44 for 421!!!!! Imagine completing the 2 more passes. 3 TD's and 470 yards!!!

This is not realistic!!!! The Patriots don't win 1 Super Bowl if they dont get the Oakland tuck rule call..... Plus last night how in the world did the Patriots get the onside kick.....Please someone here (CHeese) explain to me how they gave the ball the Patriots when the Colts kicked the onside kick!!! Dude came out from the pile and the replay showed the ball come loose and the dude who had it at the end landed on it!!!! Please tell me how the NFL isn't fixed when that call stood!!??!?! And no one said anything.....How could that possibly be the Patriots ball when not once did a patriot have it.

Great Post. I will quibble a little with over coming the bad calls in that yesterday's game was the exception to that rule. Well sort of because we still could have and should have won the game if a couple of players stepped up and made some plays that were there for the making.

Thing is how many holding calls were called on the Steelers Oline? They really are that disciplined, even their 2nd or was it 3rd string LT and 2nd string OC playing. Two of the TO's could have been changed. Even when a call went against the Steelers it felt like the refs did so hesitantly.

When John Browns helmet came off wasn't the play suppose to be blown dead at that point, not sure what the exact rule is for that.

Okay, spilt mild and tear time is over for me.

I don't think his arms were ever overly pumped, it looked more like tightly tailored sleeves.... Even Adam Levine looked like he has biceps when you stuff a 8 inch "gun" into a 6 inch sleeve lol.

The league announced today that there would be no fine for the hit on Vick. Which is the equivalent of the league fully admitting that was a terrible call.

Like Cheese had said, I really wasn't that worked up about the PI, because Floyd shoulda caught that ball, but that hit on Vick irritated me more than anything for 2 reasons.

1. it was a flat out wrong, terrible call
2. it came just after Palmer got sacked and the Pitt defender, CLEAR AS DAY, lowered his helmet and speared Carson and drove, which should be a roughing call everytime.

It's not that it cost us the game, but judgement calls like these show a CLEAR favoritism for Pittsburgh and it's been going on for years. It's not even that it screws the Cardinals, it happens to every team that plays Pittsburgh and it frustrates me as an NFL fan and honestly makes me lose faith in the integrity of the game a little more everytime it happens. You're not going to call the roughing on Palmer? Ok fine, but dont call a ticky tack one on Vick in the following series cuz that's the crap that just infuriates me as a fan of the NFL.

That's why I roll my freaking eyes so hard at the NFL when they get all holy about the "integrity of the shield." There have been contless games where the Steelers got game changing calls in their favor, there are horrible calls all the time. Yet the coaches cant question the officials, the players cant do it. You cant even be demonstrative about disagreeing with a call anymore or you get a penalty for that too.

Calls will get missed, people are human and I can live with that but just call it both ways man. Call a freaking fair game. In my opinion, the game on Sunday was CLEARLY not called in an equitable manner, from PI, to roughing the passer and so on. Again, we still should have won, good teams overcome that. But it's not like its the first time that we NFL fans have been down this road with the Steelers, and it's just frustrating.
