Does anyone else want Byrnes to do well besides me? Or have most of his supporters left the Byrnes bandwagon. I hope he still has some supporters left out there anbd i think he does because he is such a popular guy.

I want him to do well but believe there is absolutely no chance of that happening for an extended period of time.

I dont think anyone is hoping he fails, if youre a fan of the D'backs why would you want one of their players to fail? We all just know he will fail, thats different.

I have a better question. What the hell happened to this guy?

How could someone just fall off the face of the earth like he did?

He's not old, he didn't get injured???

Its possible to be a fan of a team and not like a player on that team. I just thought that because of his recent slump some people might not want him to succeed as cruel as that may sound.

This is more the usual - he's a career 4th outfielder who had one fantastic half of baseball and was rewarded for it.

He's never really been that good, and now he's just become a sideshow.

Only idiots would be cheering against someone on their team. I dont like Byrnes, but that doesn't mean I want him to fail. I dont like him because he stinks and because hes making so much, but if he turned it around and somehow got his avg. up to .300 Id be thrilled.

The way Byrnes plays the game and the history of MLB say that at 33 Byrnes is old. He's the same age as former teammates Terrance Long (out of baseball in 2006) and Ben Grieve (out of baseball in 2005).

He had a peak of ages 27-31 where he put up around an 800 OPS and is on the sharp decline of a career that outside of those years were truly unspectacular.

I really used to like Eric, but to me if he was serious about getting back to where he was, he would stop doing the show and spend more time working on his swing. I now could careless if the D-Backs traded or released him, but I still would like him to succeed as a fan of the team.

I can't stand to watch the guy play. Milton Bradley was correct when he said Byrnes is false hustle. Also to think what he alone has done to this franchise. I always hate seeing his name in the lineup card instead of Parra, Young, or Upton. It will be a great day when he is no longer on our roster.

BTW, I get disgusted everytime I happen upon the "Eric Byrnes Show". They detail his elitist lifestyle and I can't help but think he has just swindled the D'backs. His clothing line, his multiple salon trips, etc.... The only thing I get a chuckle out of is that his wife looks like ET.

It really is almost mocking to see him pop up twice, and hit into a couple double plays, and follow it up with his ******* show. We get it Eric, you're still cool, might be time to lay a little low these days. Get that average over .250 and then start worrying about your awesome show.

On a related note... if I see the Brandon Webb fishing trip piece again, I may go on a 3 state killing spree. I think I have the first 15 minutes of dialogue memorized

Eric Byrnes has an adolescent mentality. That's what he is.

The error was management setting him up to fill the void of team leader when Gonzo left. They made a poor choice.

So with the big contract and the notoriety, he is not only performing poorly on the field but he is still the face of the everyday players until somebody else comes along.

Ideal for that role is Tony Clark, but his time has come and gone. The rest of the older position players are underachieving.

Tony Clark, really? Guy hasn't been good for 4 years.

They needed to hang their hats on guys like Jackson, Young, Upton and Drew but instead they chose Byrnes.

EPIC FAIL.

I think you and I said the same thing about Tony -- "...his time has come and gone."

At the time that Gonzo left, Jackson, Young, Upton and Drew were not candidates to be the symbol of our offense.

Two candidates are Webb and Haren (just as Johnson and Schilling formed a triple image with Gonzo).

But we really need an everyday player to be part of the package.

It looks like Justin Upton is becoming the one.

Why can't we just focus on who's performing or has the capability of performing on the field instead of worrying about what their personality traits symbolize and the synergy of the team?

I just don't understand the need to wax poetically and insert psycho-babble in place of factual data and statistics.

In addition to competition and skills, organized sports is a segment of entertainment, competing with concerts, movies, dining out, etc., for people's discretionary spending, especially in these tough economic times.

If you consider that psycho-babble, I suggest you don't purchase a restaurant. Good food and service won't suffice if you don't get their attention and get 'em in the door.

It's marketing, man. Choosing Eric Byrnes as our lead marketing symbol, and putting that attention into his lap, not only failed. It caused him to fail.

He did really well last night and Gracie or Sutton didnt really commend his perfoprmance at all or anything. When he hit the homer they just said o the feilder gave a great effort on that play. The didnt talk about how him getting out of the slump with a couple of good performances like this. A lot of other D backs did really well last night so his performance might have been overshadowed but o well.

Byrnes is great when there is no pressure, like his HR last night.

If it had been tied, or Dbacks down a run, he'd have popped up.

I heard Colin Cowherd going off about A-rod and he says he is brilliant when there is no pressure, but folds if there is. He compared Jeter's stats to A-Rods.

I don't recall the specifics but basically A-Rod his a majority of his homeruns in the first few innings and his BA is higher when the team is leading in late innings.

The opposite is true for Jeter, the majority of his HRs come in late inning games and his batting average is higher when the team is trailing versus leading.

I wonder if Byrnes has similar patterns to A-rod in this regard
