Did anyone else see Hodge and Tim Hasselbeck talking about all of the HC openings, yesterday? Between the two of them, they came up with Buffalo, Cleveland and AZ as being the worst opporunities right now. They also say Chicago is the best, because of Cutler. I understand it's a QB driven league, but I think AZ has a lot to offer the right coach.

Thoughts?

The zero pieces on offense aside from the WRs has a lot to do with that.

No QB, no RB, no OL, no cap space. Ouch.

What are those things? A mid-high draft pick in a draft sorely lacking in QB talent?

Two running backs who can't be relied on to start 3 games in a row?

The possibility of having an entire defensive staff forced on you?

Sounds like an awesome opportunity.

A defense loaded with talent

An oline with some veteran talent and VERY promising youth

An owner that wants to win and is willing to let you run your staff your way

I disagree almost completely. We have some young talent on the Oline that can still be molded to the style of blocking that the new coach wants. Wipo and LSH would be great RBs for a guy like Reid for instance. We have some really good weapons in the receiving game in Fitz, Floyd, Roberts and Housler. Than we have a pretty high draft pick in which we will be able to draft a QB or we could go out and explore trades for QBs. Just because the last group of guys didn't pull it off doesn't mean that it is anywhere near impossible. Then there is also the potential that the defense still has and one might say they are 1 or 2 players away from being a legit top 5 defense.

No one who watches film counts Daryn Colledge or Adam Snyder as "veteran talent." They're salary cap albatrosses. I'm not sure that a 7th round draft pick counts as "very promising youth," either.

Didn't our owner just fire the head coach because he wanted to meddle with his staff?

This defense is going to lose its 2nd best defensive back and maybe it's third in free agency, and is also lacking an elite pass rusher.

What can this job bring that the jobs in Chicago, Buffalo, or San Diego can't?

Defensive excitement and talent.

Fitz.

Dry Heat (good nickname for the defense BTW)

That's half the battle (Just fix the freakin' offense).

I like Colledge and Sendlein and I don't care what round they were drafted in both Masse and Potter show a lot of promise.

So, you call firing the HC meddeling? I call it firing. Meddeling would be forcing him to replace Grimm or Miller. That didn't happen from Bidwills own mouth. It wasn't an option. He fired Whis, period.

Chicago, Buffalo, and San Diego don't have defensive excitement and talent?

Brandon Marshall and Stevie Johnson aren't within shouting distance of Larry Fitzgerald (or, you know, completely and utterly eclipsed him this year)?

San Diego weather >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Phoenix weather.

You technically make good points, but the inference you made was that no one would even consider us in comparison to those other teams. Whether we're best, second or third best or worst among the four, all four are fairly closely bunched together.

Every franchise that fired their head coach yesterday is broken to some extent, or they wouldn't have fired their head coach.

All of the openings remind me of the girls you meet at AA meetings; they all bring something good to the table if you date them (cute, attentive, etc.), but have one or two glaring problems (5 kids with 5 different guys, self-cutter, meth habit, etc.)

Most any coach considers any opportunity a good one if the owner is behind them. So I think AZ represents a good opportunity for most candidates wanting to be a head coach.

Here is a breakdown on why Arizona is the worst head coaching situation out there...

1-There is not a GM in place. This has more to do with the head coach not knowing who they will have to work with to rebuild the team. Like it or not, coaches want people who they can work with and we have nothing to offer them in this regard, yet.

2-There is a current defensive staff already in place. Some of you view this as a plus, but it isn't. If Horton doesn't leave for another coaching gig, the head will be saddled with a defensive coordinator who will likely feel like he has been snubbed. Not an impossible scenario to work through, but not an inviting one either. Also, different head coaches have preferences in what style of defense their team runs. Horton's aggressive style could limit the number of candidates who are interested.

3-No QB on the roster, but two underachieving ones, and one of those with a huge salary. Oh yeah, and the owner wants to hear the coaches plan for how to use Kolb. Coaches get fired having good QBs on their roster, but we can't offer that and the draft offers no sure options either.

4-Two injury riddled RBs and the other two being free agents.

5-Three 2nd year offensive linemen, one OT coming off an injury, and three underachieving veterans who have prohibitive singing bonuses making them difficult to cut.

6-A defensive unit that has 8, maybe 9 players hitting free agency. Holliday, Eason, Groves, Lenon, Toler, Adams, R Johnson, James Sanders and possibly Kerry Rhodes are all potential free agents and we are tight in cap room. Not a great situation when combined with all of our offensive needs.

I hear ya Chopper..... I just can't believe someone would choose Cleveland or Buffalo over us if the offers were identical.

The Bills have a ton invested in Fitzpatrick, a problem choosing between two styles of running backs, a highly priced D-line combined with an ugly secondary.

The Browns are just as nasty as we are at the QB position.

Plus their weather, & stadium situations are nasty.

Being second or third worse isn't that great of a selling point either though.

O line will be improved next year, no doubt about it. We will take an OL piece with our 1st rounder and hopefully there is some pieces in FA. I believe our O-line was improving as the as the season progressed. Potter and Kelemente are young and can improve with a new coaching staff, plus picks, FA, getting Levi back to add some depth.

I know many of us thought this is what happened to Whiz with Clancy Pendergast. Obviously I don't know the real story. A new coach may not like this either, as you say.

I'm not saying it isn't close, but the facts are that Cleveland has Trent Richardson, Joe Thomas, Alex Mack, Josh Gordon and Greg Little on offense and a decent QB in Brandon Weeden, but who ownership has said the next coach isn't locked into starting. They also have a young, and talented defense. Cleveland is one of the better spots if you ask me.

Buffalo is not great, but they have as many pieces as we have. Stevie Johnson and CJ Spiller are good offensive pieces to work with, ad the defense has under performed. A tough conference, but also a patient owner.

And I think our division is harder than the AFC East with two good teams and one mediocre team with a great head coach.

I think we absolutely have stuff to offer, however it's clear that Chicago and San Diego are the premiere attractive spots for potential coaches.

Chicago was 1 win away from a playoff spot. They're ready to compete NOW and have talent on the offensive side of the ball. Literally all that coach has to do is fix the O-line problems because Cutler & Marshall have a terrific on-field relationship and Forte/Bush are as solid of a RB duo as you can get in the league. The coach also has to start looking at getting younger on defense but they should be okay atleast for one more year on that front.

San Diego has the franchise QB, a budding stud WR (Alexander), and a decent defense.

As for us, we have a solid defense to work with but minus Fitz, the entire offense needs work.

The best open job is Carolina.
Next is Chicago
Then San Diego

Cardinals definitely are in the bottom 2.

Oh cmon, Fitz can't throw himself the ball. Anyone who would take Marshall or Johnson over Fitz based on 2012 stats is the very definition of 'myopic'.

It's amazing how much Fitz gets dumped on for not producing on the 16th worst offense EVER in NFL history. The whole offensive staff (minus Kitchens) just met the guillotine for a reason, you know...
