Its baseball.. you can't drink or heckle players while you're on the air..So that eliminates all the fun stuff you can do at a ball game. You might as well focus on something else before dozing off. I don't blame 'em.

My wife is no fan of baseball and those two characters are about the only thing that makes the broadcast interesting for her. She'll try to talk me out of GOING to a game because she wouldn't be able to hear Sutton and Grace. I guarantee there are other people who are in the same boat. I think they've toned the wackiness down a tiny bit. When it's a Redheads game, you know what to expect, MORE SIGNS.

I have had it with EVT columnist ever since the guy predicted the Cowboys to level the Cardinals in the 1998 playoffs.

I don't like that Gracie constantly refers to drinking "adult beverages" because he's not allowed to say "beer" on the air.

If the intention of the law is to not harp on drinking alcohol, circumventing it by using a pseudonym is a sneaky violation.

I like a cold beer, Bloody Maria, Scotch old-fashion, etc. But if he's not supposed to push it on the air, he shouldn't be.

Like the time a previous D'backs color commentator (I think it was Jim Traber) told Thom Brennaman in San Francisco that he didn't ride a "trolley car"--he stayed in his room and drank.

What a simple-minded baboon. And he didn't last long.

Someone needs to keep Grace in line. It wouldn't hurt if they remind him that smoking as heavily as he does (it shows in his voice) isn't helping him either.

I cringe every time I read about someone pushing him for Manager. He has very little self-discipline.

Grace referred to the article tonight, telling people to mute the TV like 'lots of people do when Darren and I are on' when they do the trivia. Its just getting irritating. Fans say "hey, we'd like to answer the trivia" and they say "Screw you, we're bored and we'll do what we want." Multiple newspapers and tons of fans say 'hey tone it down, you're annoying' and instead of taking constructive criticism they take on a ridiculous 'us against the world' mentality.

I'm all for fun, humorous announcers (i.e. I LOVED "Dante and Gallante" at the NBA Summer League) but Grace and Sutton aren't really funny. They're both fairly dim witted, make the same 'jokes' over and over and come across as frat boyish and annoying.

That's the worst part. They don't know when to stop. They repeat the same thing over and over.

But . . . each is influenced by the other. When Sutton works with Joe Garagiola, Sr. or Candiotti or even the boring Matt Williams, he's more mature.

When Grace does color commentary on Fox Sports Net with a pro doing play-by-play, he's more mature.

It's when they're together they get childish and boring in their repitition.

Not to mention letting 3 or 4 pitches go by without even mentioning what's going on.

And, of course, my pet peeve. "You're absolutely right, Daron Sutton." "Look at that, Mark Grace." Over and over and over.

Another for instance, how many times last night did Sutton make the "shoes" 'joke' and every-time Grace acted like it was side splittingly funny.

These guys are just fine. Not great, not terrrible, just fine... and that's all I need. The game, after all, is on the field, and that's what I really pay attention to. The are rarely a distraction to me, and sometimes, are funny and informative. S'ok.

You know who sucks? Mark McClune. I can't stand him during the pre-game/after game stuff. Way too many "umms... uhhs.." etc. Now that I've noticed him do it, it's all I focus on when he's on the air.

Mark Gracisms:

Every missed pitch by a Dbaks batter was "Right down the middle, belt high."

"That's Big League."

And the worst of all, done by both Sutton and Chicago buffoon: "For all you youngsters out there..."

Analysis for the brain-dead and for those thousands of children still up at 9:46 PM Arizona time and watching the game.

There are more but I now do indeed mute the sound and listen to the radio while watching.

I respect Grace for calling out DB hitters for undisciplined at bats.
He is the guy that gave me the slump-buster terminology.
I like to listen to the Bad Brains and Raw Power during the game.
