Now that things have significantly changed on our roster, who will be left unprotected, and is there any chance they'll be picked up? I believe each team leaves eight players protected. So now, who who should they be?

1. Shawn Marion
2. Amare Stoudemire
3. Leandro Barbosa
4. Zarko Cabarkapa
5. Macej Lampe
6. Joe Johnson
7. Casey Jacobsen
8. Jake Voskuhl

I think that actually works out almost perfectly. That being said, I also think there's at least a decent chance the Bobcats would go after either Jahidi White or Howard Eisley.

i think that assuming there are no more trades these 8 will be protected. i would be surprised if the bobcats took white, but they might considering he'll be in the last year of his contract, it will probably depend on the other center options out there. no way they take eisley though, there are too many veteran point guards at the same level as eisley who will make alot less and aren't in long term contracts (charlie ward, anthony carter etc.)

There isn't a chance in hell the bobcats would take Howard Eiseley unless the Phoenix Suns bribe them with draft picks and/or cash.

The expansion draft doesn't take place until after the NBA finals so I have a question... Can the players who are to be FA's sign with teams before the expansion draft?

IMO we will not trade away a draft pick to get ride of a player for nothing. If the Suns can make a competative team they will pay over the cap. Plus White's contract comes off soon. If they don't think they can sign Kobe or who every they are looking at then why even get ride of White. I like how White plays and I would like to have him on the team.

I think I may have answered my own question.....

EXPANSION DRAFT RULES

The NBA will hold Charlotte's expansion draft this time next year - in the days between the end of the playoffs and the rookie draft. Here's a summary of the rules:

POOL OF PLAYERS: Each of the 29 existing NBA teams can protect eight veterans from the expansion draft. Any player not protected, who is under contract to an NBA team, is available to the Bobcats.

The Bobcats may not draft a player who isn't under contract to the NBA, even if an NBA team holds his draft rights.

NO. OF SELECTIONS: The Bobcats must draft a minimum of 14 players off other rosters. Since no existing team can lose more than one player, the maximum the Bobcats can draft is 29.

FREE AGENTS: Teams don't have to protect their unrestricted free agents. The rule is slightly different for restricted free agents, (for which a team can match any other team's contract offer).

If a restricted free agent is left unprotected, the Bobcats can draft him. However, that player would then become an unrestricted free agent - with no obligation to play for the Bobcats.

The team that lost him would be barred from re-signing him in the summer of 2004. Restricted free agents would count against the minimum 14 selections Charlotte will make in the expansion draft.

Here is some more info on the expansion draft.
-----------------------------------------------------

Normally, the NBA expands by two or more teams at a time. This is a one-team expansion, and the 76ers' King believes that helps the Bobcats."That allows them to really pick and choose (in the expansion draft) because they don't have to worry, `Well, if we pick this guy, then who will the other team take next?' '' King said. "They can just worry about picking the guys they want."

NBA Commissioner David Stern sees other opportunities. Under league rules, teams can offer the Bobcats a draft pick and up to $3 million as inducement to take or not take a particular veteran left unprotected.

"Some teams have made mistakes with their existing rosters," Stern said during a recent visit to Charlotte. "So I'd like to be the GM of the expansion team getting teams to say, `If you take this guy for a year, I'll give you a first-round draft choice.' I think there's going to be some really interesting roster stuff happening."

Perhaps, but Hornets executive vice president Bob Bass warns that the Bobcats could outsmart themselves by getting too aggressive with the expansion draft.

"It will look like they can't win a whole lot of games at first, if they're managing their cap right," Bass said. "But (winning regularly) shouldn't be one of their goals that first season."
