Maybe. But the facts presented so far don't necessarily support this and until they do I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. My comment about it being too harsh though is aimed at the people who accept that he's the victim and are judging him for being duped.

I like catfish- besides all is fair in love and war- i've seen some of the brightest men in the world melt into a pile of beetlejuice when the chemisty is right and the skirt is high and tight- I can't fault the boy - especially after those tapes I heard on the radio- I'm a damn smuck I admit to it- I could never say no when the ex wife turned on the tears- trick is finding one that won't use those magic powers against you-to the detrimate of the family.

I am with ya, Steve. I love how people are tearing this kid down for either being involved or being so gulliable. Well, if he's involved, then that sucks. (I remember watching that interview about his girl and shedding a tear.) If he WAS that gulliable, then so what? How old is he? 21, 22? Weren't we ALL gulliable then? And how is being that trusting a bad thing (other than being too trusting)?

Doug and Wolf were talking a week or so ago about how he's gonna fall like Burfect. Personally, I don't think that's gonna happen.

No reported drug problem, he did not get arrested for assault, he did nothing illegal... he just involved himself in something with naivety.

You think he should have hired a private detective to find out if his dead girlfriend really existed or actually died? After all his conversations with his "girlfriend" and her "family", why would it cross his mind to pursue it further? And if he had reason to suspect something and failed to act on it, well, how does that make him a moron?

I think it's a little dumb to start a relationship with someone over the internet but OTOH, many of us here have never met. I know a few of you are imaginary. Seriously, some of you just can't be real.

I think he has held up personally very good considering how embarrassing and humiliating all of this must have been and still be for him. I think it is a truly cruel and inhumane joke that was perpetrated on him. I am surprised their hasn't been more hatred and backlash toward the perpetrator of this. It is very cruel especially how long it went on for. Reminds me of the time I picked up a gorgeous blonde and she turned out to be a guy. The main difference is one was over in a few minutes, the other went on for months before being dragged through the media for weeks.

for me personally, no, I don't think he needed a detective to find out if she were real. But I think he should have pursued a face-to-face meeting, to the point if "she" kept saying no, that he break it off...

but that's a perfect example of just how relevant it really is. Look at where Burfict was drafted...
