Great stuff for information starved Cards fans. Thanks for input . I will up next week for a couple of days. Looking forward to see how Branch looks as well as the QB from CMSU.

Evidently it will be a different link everyday.
That's kind of silly.

We have a Levi Brown update. Cards beat writer Kent Somers says he talked Rod Graves minutes ago and he has not Joel Segal, Brown's agent today, but planned to speak with him tonight.

Segal spent the day in Washington, where his client LaRon Landry, signed today.

good to see Ricky Schmitt doing good in TC and booming the ball 50 plus yards...not to sound mean but we really need to get rid of Player..his leg is not what it used to be..and for god sakes no more line drive punts!

One day's worth of drills does not a season make. But it does suggest that Schmitt deserves watching more closely. And I agree that Player could be more consistent - in length of his punts, hang-time, direction and dropping it inside the 20.

But let's see how Schmitt does on a day-to-day basis over a longer period of time facing "live" fire.

i know its the first day of practice but i hope we don't make the same mistake we did last year by cutting Fred Capashaw when he was doing great in preseason..

I was hoping for Capshaw to beat out Player last year .. wonder where he is now .. ???

I think its time that we replace Player if we can find someone with a good leg and some hangtime ...

Is Schmitt the one to do it .. ??

he is with Rams right now...but i think Schmitt can beat Player...just for the fact i remember reading about him that he can get good distance and hangtime (5 sec hangtime) and 40 plus yard average..and also a lot more athletic than Player since Schmitt also played soccer in college to

I'm not a huge Player fan yet you have to admit he has very few shanks. The guy is extremely consistent. In years past we've had punters who were notorious for duffing a punt when it mattered most. I'd say the majority of other teams would take him in a heart beat; of course they'd require him to wear a different mask.;)

From what I understand, he's sitting around the house in the middle of the day drinking beer.

Mildly funny story ...

Cards Camp 2001, FanBoy's just getting off the ground, and they send me up to Flagstaff for a week. It's the first time since the '97 Rose Bowl azcentral's sent any of us anywhere out of town. Originally I was going to be staying with the rest of the media in the nicer accommodations, but I was determined to keep the costs downs. I want to be able to do this again someday. Busting the budget won't look good.

So I downgrade the hotel to one of those right off 17, one of those that was there when I lived there as a kid -- in 1973. I cut the food budget in half, determined to eat sandwiches made with inexpensive grocery food. I demanded to pay for my own gas, since, "I'm just grateful to get out of this heat."

I get there and it's one of the hottest, muggiest weeks of August, in one of the driest summers in recent history. My credit card is left at home, my debit card is scratched and my credit union doesn't have a Flagstaff branch, so all my expenses are coming from the slashed budget of advanced cash I took with me (except where they take an out-of-town check, which was like no place). Turns out my hotel's "internet access" is dial-up only, and the room's air conditioning is actually one of those window units. Bugs EVERYWHERE in the hotel. I had to get azcentral to work out a deal with the Cards so I could get a meal card and eat with the team, or I would have starved by Wednesday. My digital recorder didn't like the humidity, I guess, and decided to stop working, so I had to beg Radio Shack to take my check and buy a new one on my own dime. Then I realized I didn't have the right cord to my laptop, whose security wasn't set up for dial-up.

I think I might have filed three reports the whole week and it was the last time the original FanBoy was ever sent out of town!

Worst. Camp. Ever.

Does it bother anyone else when Player picks up a ball and starts practicing receiving snaps and punting into the net AS SOON AS we get the ball? Before the offense even gets on the field? It can be pretty UN-NERVING when you are HOPING for more than 3 plays before he jogs onto the field...almost like he EXPECTS FAILURE every time we get the ball...

Job security. If a team has a lot of 3 and outs they need a great punter to be ready at all times.
