Honestly, I'm finding it hard to care. It's like the writers took all the worst things about The Walking Dead and made a show of nothing but those things with Fear the Walking Dead. Horribly realized characters that nobody can root for and a situation that is quite frankly hilarious.

And what was with Alicia punishing herself (or whatever it was she was doing)? It was completely random, was she trying to remove the ink on her arm from her dead boyfriend? If it's some other problem, then great job by the writers for springing it on the audience like that.

Not a good show.

Honestly, this is why I'm still watching it. I came back for another episode, and just found it to be comedy gold. It's why I watched Under the Dome for a little more than a season--it was fun to make fun of the characters and writing.

Well, what the show has going for it still is just the possibility of more background and answers on all the things that happened while Rick was in a coma. I suppose if anyone follows through on the threats to stop watching, they can always read the recaps.

On a Grantland podcast, Andy Greenwald mentioned the show being shot in Vancouver as a possible detriment, and I think I agree. I mean, Vancouver is a great city and a spinoff set there would be cool -- but I think in this case the show would benefit from more than just a few establishing shots of LA. They're using generic locations, and maybe it feels a little bit like nowhere set pieces, kind of like the prison, Woodbuy, etc. in TWD. This show seemed to have been positioned as an alternative to that (though maybe that was wishful thinking by internet commenters), and I think we were hoping to see more of the wider city and society before being locked down into a Walking Dead-style location (with Lt. Moyers as the big bad).

However, it's only episode 4, and clearly the main characters are going to have to get out of their neighborhood soon somehow.

The problem is that the series is only 6 episodes, so we only have 2 more left and nothing is happening.

Am I interested in what happened when Rick was in the coma? Sure. I'm just not certain the story set in LA is the best way to go. Especially with these writers that can't come up with anything interesting.

I'd think it would be more interesting to see how the original group came together--maybe start this series in the hospital when Rick goes into the coma and follow Shane/Laurie and how the outbreak happened in the Georgia area leading up to The Walking Dead's pilot.

Yep, good point on us already being 2/3 of the way through. A LOT more happened in the original. In a way FTWD feels almost like a webisode series, kind of like what Battlestar Galactica did between two seasons IIRC.

Maybe they should just call it after the 6th episode here, then move on to another setting. I'd be interested in seeing, you know, what the president is doing? Or what's happening at the Pentagon?

First off 6 episodes was just stupid. Second, you are right in that the "season" is almost over and practically NOTHING has happened.

Them being stuck in the neighborhood is this shows version of TWD spending multiple episodes walking through the woods. However, in this case it just happens to be for the entire season.

Maybe it's a budget and/or location thing. Either way, this was not well thought out or written so far IMO. I have liked 1 episode so far. Just one.

With the show being filmed a majority of the time in Vancouver, I'd say this show is significantly cheaper to produce than the main show.

I figured we'd be getting a lot more info on what was initially happening globally too. Not just how things went down for one tiny neighborhood in LA. I get that society collapsed fast but they still are getting power from somewhere, how their top priority is not turning on the damn radio and trying to get information is beyond me.

Exactly....I mean I thought that was what we were getting too in terms of the collapse of society. That's why I wanted to watch this how in the first place. They barely touched on it and now we get scenes in an isolated neighborhood with the surrounding city empty?!?!

WTH?

I'm not sure there's much of a difference budget wise in shooting in Vancouver v. Atlanta considering the ginormous tax credits in the ATL. Also, this show has two relatively big leads in Cliff Curtis and what's her name, whereas the original was pretty much all no names.

that said, at this point, there's probably a HUGE discrepancy in the FX/Make-up budgets as there's very few walkers in any episode (if any) versus hordes of them in the first six episodes of the original show. That's probably the biggest difference in budget at this point.

I think most every AMC show starts with a 6 episode pilot season.

Season 2 is already full go too.

I don't see the reason to film it in a different city than you say you are filming. Seems that would handcuff you from the get go.

negatory. Man Men was the full 13. Breaking Bad was 7 (shortened only because of the WGA strike back in 2007). Better Call Saul was 10 (or 13). Halt And Catch Fire was 10 (or 13). Pretty sure Hell On Wheels was 13 also.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$ - much cheaper to shoot outside LA where you can get major tax credits in places like Georgia, NC, New Mexico. That tax credit helps a ton budget wise.

Which is fine but you could also just have the show set where it is really set like TWD being in Georgia.

Wasn't TWD season one six episodes?

then almost 50% of shows would be set in Vancouver/Atlanta/New Mexico/NC (and New Orleans is starting to creep in there... and certainly helped established the latest NCIS down there).

You'd be surprised how many shows fake those four places (especially Vancouver/ATL) for pretty much ANYWHERE.

It's all about money and trust me... no executive wants to hear a pitch about a show that takes place in... Vancouver! Or Atlanta (unless it's got some GREAT specific hook to the region).

yeah... but that was the only one AMC has ever done to my knowledge. Otherwise, they've all been 10-13 episodes in their first seasons (Bad being cut short by the strike not-withstanding).

I have mixed feelings about episode 5. The writers of the first 5 episodes have really been all over the place. They continue to make characters who are uninteresting or completely stupid. The plot is all over the place and yet we haven't really got to see the demise of the civilized world except for one small neighborhood. It all has been a major disappointment for me so far.

Yet I'm still curious enough to come back and see what happens in the final episode. Holding out hope that they were saving the best writers for the final episode. I'm not holding my breath though.

I really don't have mixed feelings. Most of the season (if you can call it that being only 6 episodes) has basically sucked. It's completely failed to deliver what was advertised. You see the breakdown of society for a partial part of an episode, followed by a bunch of bad bad bad writing and crappy characters.

Episode 4 was the first likeable episode and last nights episodes was decent. I am hoping for an epic finale.

Even if that is somehow delivered......Season ".5" is a disappointment.

Travis is a stupid wuss. Madison is harder than that marshmallow and that's not saying much.

I totally agree with you that Season 1 has been a complete disaster and disappointment. Just trying to force feed myself something that I want to be good. Still holding out hope that they are just getting off to a slow start but deep down know that superman couldn't stop this train wreck.

That Kim Dickens actress is terrible. She deserves a role in the next made for TV Disney movie. I've seen more emotion out of a dirty soap dish.

Just watched episode 5. The final thirty seconds was awesome. They keep having an intense ending after a long slow dialogue. Hopefully the next episode is bat **** crazy or they didn't operate very well for season one

it seems like the military is leaving now that the commander is dead. Maybe the town gets over run and we can move on from safe town but with the setup of getting junkie depp free, they may have to delay leaving the culdesac

The black guy in the cage with junkie seems like a good character though

You know what I'd love? A Mockumentary. I want to know who patient zero was, I want to know how quickly they understood what was going on, I want to see the global response and interviews from people in government, the military, scientists, doctors, CDC, WHO, the UN, the EU, and so forth. I want a general idea of how fast this became a global pandemic. I want to see how the US government tried to tackle the problem step by step and when they figured out that all was lost.

Basically, I'd like to know how the entire world handled this on the whole. I realize that there would be no one to make the documentary and all the people they interviewed would be dead, but oh well.

I was really looking forward to watching the latest episode last night. Unfortunately, I fell asleep about half way though. Seriously. Boring.

read World War Z. It's awesome and is pretty much all of the above.

The movie, while good was NOTHING like the book. The book could have made for a great TV series.
