I cannot take his playcalling anymore. Absolutely terrible! Most predictable playcalling ever! How many David Johnson first down runs for a loss have we witnessed this season? This is insanity. McCoy has to go. Now!

Yeah i want to blame him more than anything but theyre bad today because Rosen is completely innacurate and Oline getting no push, and drops again...

Also i havent seen them run many first down runs today, a lot more 2nd down running

I agree McCoy has been “the problem” this entire season, but today I don’t blame his play calling. I can’t count how many times he ran play action on first and Rosen just over threw his target. Typical rookie type game, but one good stat is he didn’t turn the ball over.

It’s funny cause if we had Shanahan, we would probably be 4-1.

Surprised it took this long for someone to hire Shanahan, his dad was an offensive genius and he has been terrific himself. He made that offense look pretty impressive with backups all over the place. The turnovers were execution not scheme

Pretty much every single play after was a run up the middle though. It's as if he can't bring himself to vary it once the game is going.

Shanahan would love to have Chandler Jones, Patrick Peterson, Fitzgerald and David Johnson

I can't remember an outside run till the final drive and shockingly it was successful. DJ's strength is his speed, we should be running it outside way more often

Baby steps. He tried to make it 3rd and manageable. I’ll agree that he could have done more than just run up the middle, but Rosen put us behind the sticks by missing open receivers on first.

I’ve never been a McCoy fan today he wasn’t as bad, Rosen missed lots of open receivers. He’s still a rook though & going to get better.

The thing I don’t understand with McCoys plays calls in the run game is why the FB doesn’t play more instead of no blocking Seals-Jones & why he’s doesnt spread the field & run from that formation more instead of tight formations constantly.

We need a change of philosophy. We don't have the personnel or talent to run a dink and dunk ground and pound control the clock offense. We just gotta keep taking shots and running more chunk yardage plays to get into position to score more

what i didnt like about the 2nd half:

SF was stuffing the box -- and while there were first down passes, no play action. Further, it just seems like there were no easy throws on any of the passes -- instead deep corner routes, etc.

contrast that with what Shanahan did for CJ Beathard: all sorts of creative routes to get somebody open for a 5 yard completion that ended up netting 7-10 yards. Part of that was enabled by a strong running game --

got a little tired of

1. 1st down, Rosen overthrows somebody.
2. 2nd down, DJ runs up the middle for two yards.
3. 3rd down incomplete pass.

It was a little predictable, and I think we converted one third down all day.

Cant we figure out a way to get DJ the ball in a little bit of space?

Sucks seeing DJ pretty much non-effective. Doesn't he have something stupid like 240 rushing yards in 5 games? that is abysmal....

Idk how we only run one screen pass to DJ. Yes it got blown up but you got to give the QB some easy completions with YAC potential.

Yeah Cards could have executed much better today but his play calling was predictable and archaic.

Cards front office likes stability, theyll wait until the bye to can him if they do at all...

Thanks everyone... at least I know I’m not crazy. It appears we agree the play calling sucks. Is it against the rules to throw on second down after you’ve thrown on first down?
