It is time to dump Melvin. He is incompetent at best, and has been since he was the D-backs 2nd choice as a hire. He got bailed out enough times last year to get the manager of the year but he is being exposed for what he really is... a terrible leader. How many times has this team been outplayed, out hustled, out strategized, and just plain out coached? Too damn many for my taste. At the very least, a message needs to be sent in this organization to everyone and the firing of Melvin would be a good start.

I'm all for it, but has a team ever fired a manager, in June, that was in first place by 5 games (or so)? After a trip to the LCS? I just don't see this franchise eating that contract under these circumstances. This team isn't being run by Steinbrenner. I'd love it, just don't see it.

Still, the team look embarassingly unprepared to play tonight. They took exactly the wrong approach to hit JD, and he just ate them up. And, it was like the pitchers felt they could just put it in the middle of plate because the A's don't have power.

Something needs to be done. It is beginning to be painful to watch this team. Losing 2 out of 3 to the Royals at home should have set off warning signs. After a hot start, teams began to figure out that all these players do is swing for the fences, so they adjusted; the D'backs continue to be steadfast and stubborn with their approach, and, frankly, it disgusts me.

However, I do not think Melvin will be fired, although I would be all for it. It would be more likely that the hitting coach is given the boot.

With that said, the D'backs will continue to limp along and might even win the pathetic NL West. Management will be steadfast without making any major changes to this club's future.

Chip Hale please!

I agree with all of this. I've never liked Melvin, but you can't really fire a guy in 1st place (even though the division stinks) who went to the NLCS last year. The team is young, and we were expecting to go through stretches like this last year, I don't know why we're so shocked this year.

How about sneaking some "FIRE MELVIN" signs into the ballpark, then? He has a bobblehead night on July 19, ya know.

Notice how the fans on internet message boards rip have ripped every D-back manager to shreds over the years. Fire Showalter! Fire Brenly! Fire Pedrique (that one was certainly warranted)!

This team does need to wake up, before the Dodgers or anyone else in that divison does. I think they will bounce back, but it's almost painful to watch their low points. They went through a stretch of games last year around this time and then out of nowhere, turned things around in late July. I think something like that can happen. It better.

Well wow what a bad start to this series man our offense has been horrible along with our pitching, something has to be done and soon not sure but something defintally needs fixing. I'm not sure if we should fire melvin just maybe give him another month to try and fix this and if were still playing this bad then i'm all for fireing him. But I mean wow you lose two out of 3 to the royals at home, and the next game you get blown out by the A's defintally not a good sign. Lets get it back togather today with a good win...

Why does he continue to use Micah as a pinch hitter, especially when there is a runner on third and only one out? He strikes out too many times.

My wife and I just got home from a week's vacation in San Diego, Santa Barbara and L.A. They had Phoenix weather all week. Moderate near the ocean, but cosiderably close to 110 not too far inland.

Each day I followed the D'backs box scores in the L.A. Times. 'Even went to the Dodgers game on Saturday. We left when it was tied, then heard they gave up six runs in the 11th inning.

Earlier in the game the Indians pitcher Sabathia hit a tape measure home run. Geez, I thought I was back in D'back land.

Then I heard that the Diamondbacks were swept over the weekend by the Twinkies. Thanks to the Dodgers we are still in first place. But we are now just three games over .500.

Being in first place is not what Melvin should be judged by, not in our weak division. Sinking to barely over .500 -- and the coma the team is in -- is what he should be judged by.

I was glad to hear the Bill Cartwright and Dan Marjerle were hired as Assistant Coaches by the Suns.

I was hoping to hear that Chip Hale had replaced sleepy Bob Melvin as D'backs manager. No such luck.

Write "CAR" on one side, then when the camera is pointing at you flip the sign over.

For some reason I was just reminded of the "Eat Me" cake/Deathmoble seen from Animal House.

Some time ago, I posted a comment that a team that relies on homeruns to win ball games will win about a third of its games.

Today's Az. Republic reminds us that the D'backs record in their past 35 games is 12-23 -- a won-lost percentage of 34%.

And Melvin talks about juggling his lineup as a way of changing that.

Hey doofus, that's what got our predominantly young lineup into this mess.

When Melvin was Brenly's bench coach, Johnson/Schilling/Gonzo got us one Championship, in spite of the 135 different batting orders per season.

We don't have a Gonzo in the heart of the lineup. And, as much as I like Brandon Webb and Dan Haren, they are certainly not as domineering as the Johnson/Schilling tandem.

It's time for a new approach. Just as Mike D'Antoni couldn't handle a new approach for the Suns, neither evidently can Melvin for the D'backs.

Isn't that obvious to the D'backs top brass?

I wonder just as much about some of the moves our GM Josh Byrnes has made that have contributed to this mess.

If Melvin is fired, can we reasonably expect Byrnes to make a good selection to replace him?

Zenny's reference to Matt Williams might have been astute. Williams might make a very good manager.

Anyway, if we play an ugly Florida series, a change might be made.

I am not a Melvin fan but I doubt he would be fired during this season. He was the NL Manager of the Year last year and the Diamondbacks are in first. I can't see Byrnes firing him.

I really becaome discouraged by his approach to the game after a press conference a month or two ago when he was asked about not hitting the long ball with any sort of consistency. His response was that it is a huge part of our game.

Wrong!

You will have little success with swinging for the fences every time your batter is up. Thats why we have three players who lead the league in K's. For God's sake, if our guys had a clue about hitting, we would be dominating this division

Ahem . . . Mike D'Antoni. There is a precedent here in Phoenix.

Not just in Phoenix. Avery Johnson anybody? What about in the NFL? Coaches are fired all the time after getting their teams in the playoffs because they can't get over the hump.

The downfall this team is currently in has just been horrendous. I haven't had time to watch any full games in couple of months, but I mean, I have been keeping up with the team, and whats been going on is just bad. Not executing, not stealing, not being smart and playing with heart. Just seems like a horrible funk and miscoaching (if thats a word). This team needs to get back on soon or else I think Melvin needs to go.

The only reason the D-backs are in first is because the rest of the NL Worst (West) is terrible. Being the best of the worst is nothing to be proud of. If they go 1-8 on this road trip, he should start looking for employment elsewhere.

Something has to be done we were once one of the best offense team in the majors now we are lucky to score one or two at best freaking runs a game what a joke. I would give Melvin till the all star break then if he doesn't turn this offense around he needs to be fired this is a joke the way we are playing right now, by the way I feel so bad for our pitchers it has to suck to pitch real good t hen not get the win because no one our team can bring in runs... UGH WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON

I doubt they fire Melvin as he sighned an extension in the off season. That being said you can question the job Byrnes has done. I think the failure of keeping Clark has cost this team both on and off the field.

I think that all the bats, except those of Jackson,Snyder andHudson, should be confiscated and the team given some 1980 bats. You know, those 36 oz and 40" bats. That would slow some swings down and maybe they would make some contact.

On the lighter side, do you think the D'backs could give away the one on the left instead of the one on the right on July 19? :D
