Yup, on August 8th, our former cleanup hitter, who seems to have found a home batting 3rd, was now batting second.

Orlando Hudson, who was moved from 3rd to 2nd in the order, was moved back to 3rd after two games, then back to 2nd for a game or so, now back to third.

Bob Brenly-Melvin isn't just tinkering with the lineup. He's demolishing it.

Major League Baseball has been played for a long, long time with a batter not afraid to take pitches at leadoff; a hit-and-run guy batting second; your best overall hitter 3rd; your big RBI guy cleanup; etc.

Bob Mediocre (the forever .500 Manager) seems to have no knowledge of respect for that.

No wonder our great young prospects are failing. Until they get traded, that is.

I know, I've said this infinite times before. I'm adding my support to this thread.

I didn't realize 90-72 and an appearance in the NLCS was a .500 season? :-/

Do you realize that a below .500 record managing Seattle; and an even .500 record managing Arizona is Bob Melvin's managerial legacy right through last night?

His managerial record with the Mariners was 156-168 -- .481 .

His current managerial Diamondbacks record is 301-300 -- one game over .500 . Add in post-season 3-4 -- .429 and it's right at .500.

That's a managerial record of 460-472 -- .494 .

It's not only below .500 . It's consistent wherever he goes. Consistently mediocre.

Not to mention how he damaged Scherzer's shoulder moving him from the starting rotation to on-call long relief, despite his 3rd best starters ERA on the team at the time.

And how he's stunted the starts of Upton, Young and Drew by moving them up and down the batting order without rhyme or reason? Or Carlos Quentin?

Or how the Diamondbacks don't know how to take pitches, hit-and-run, steal bases, pick their spots swinging for the long ball, etc.?

Or his double-negative Press conferences, nervously picking at his face, refusing to take a firm stand on anything.

With all due respect, Nasser22, realize that.

I hate these negative threads.

I don't get any sense that the Diamondbacks players want their manager replaced. If there was clubhouse dissent, sure, I'd reluctantly agree that we should bail on his contract and take the man's job. Even though it's been proven, time and again, that replacing the manager only leads to..."Let's fire the new guy!"

The funny thing is that people said almost the exact same thing last season.

Yes, a team that should be up 15 games is hanging on by a thread - no reason...

Now how big was that move Melvin made last night in pitching Rauch in a blowout game? He would of been able to pitch the 8th inning today instead of Qualls.

I don't think that Melvin should be fired but this team won 90 games last year and will barely break even this year. Last year just about every move he made was correct while this year most every move is wrong.

My feeling is that the sophomore jinx has set in for many of the players, the trade of Valverde hurt the pen, Eric Byrnes not playing after having a career year, and the not sighning of Clark all contributes to the year the team is having.

Bob Melvin does not inspire his team.

The D'backs have just lost a three-game series to the team who had the 3rd worst record in baseball, the Padres. With our three aces pitching.

Luckily for Bob Melvin, Joe Torre (who was jaded by managing in the American League for so long) and his Dodgers have just been swept by the lowly Washington Nationals.

Both managers with goofy lineups night after night. Hitters batting 5th one game. Then 8th. Then 3rd. Then 6th.

And look where it's gotten both of them. The D'backs are three lousy games over .500. The Dodgers are three games under .500.

And Melvin has indicated that Reynolds will be shifted between 3B and 2B and Dunn between RF and 1B on a "game by game" basis, with Upton returning. It's going to be goofier than ever.

Edit: Here's the link. http://www.azcentral.com/sports/diamondbacks/articles/2008/08/27/20080827dbgame0827.html

I'd also like to know how the Cy Young award will be awarded to Brandon Webb as the #1 pitcher in the NL if he's not even recognized by his manager as the #1 pitcher on the Diamondbacks.

The CY award is prestigious for a team. And Melvin has dropped Webb below Haren in the rotation. It makes no sense.

One more thing. Melvin now has Webb buying into his "little" comments. After Webb's loss, Melvin said, ""Maybe we were trying to be a bit too aggressive. Maybe pressing a little too hard to come up with the big hit when we had some guys on."

And Webby said, ""It seems like they (the Dodgers) have helped us out a bit in losing (five) games in a row. We've capitalized a little bit, but the last couple of games have been a little bit of a letdown."

Yup, it rolls downhill. How long are we going to let Bob Melvin destroy this team with his uninspired leadership, regardless of how badly the Dodgers are doing?

I'm usually one not to jump the gun and make premature calls, but in this case I'm going to..

Losing back to back series against the Padres and Giants??? Are you f'n kidding me?? You're in a fight for your playoff lives and you get bombed by the Padres and Giants?

Horrible.

I don't think you are doing either of those things.

I'd bet good money that we could find at least three guys posting here that could a better job than Melvin. Seriously.

Sure fire Melvin that will fix our problems...what a joke. No one was crying for Melvin to be fired when the players actually did their jobs early in the season! Ridiculous if you think firing Melvin is going to fix this team, it must have been him not getting a hit and leaving 17 guys on base yesterday in a one run loss!

I don't know Nashman, they need a change, they need to be motivated and without that change, they are not going to make the playoffs. It might be the only move that could shake things up and change the players mindsets. Melvin has failed at doing that.

Nobody was crying for that because we were winning, but now that we've plummeted Melvin has shown no ability to manage his way out of it. So at best he doesn't matter, at worst he gets in the way. Why should we keep him again?

It just seems really short sighted to say that Melvin is why this team is losing and having anyone else manage is going to fix anything. This team is what it is a YOUNG team with inconsistant players up and down the lineup, almost no veteren leadership since Odog - Burns - Clark haven't been playing. You need some veterens on a young team some solid CONTACT hitters and good defenders type veterans. You can't have everyone in the lineup striking out 2 or 3 times a game its crazy and its not Melvin making them strikeout!
