I have no doubt it's gonna affect the PP situation! At some point the credit card payment on Fitz is gonna come due & it seems there's no way out, unless you're talking to Keim & Michael. ;)

One way or another, I think Keim will handle it well, but remember, the Fitz contract is an inherited mess that he's going to have to deal with for a while.

If we cut Fitz after the 2014 season the dead money is $7.4 million. Cardinals would save about 16 million dollars against the cap. Most likely that is what will happen unless Fitz really restructures his contract with a major pay cut.

Im getting worried Fitz contract situation is on a collision course with PPs extension.

Im starting to think just cutting him and eating that massive dead money will be the less painful of the oncoming problems. Guys have to realize that he has to get that money eventually. That huge 23 mill cap hit next year isnt going away, all we can do is push it down the line, where it will only get bigger.

cutting him, we save a little.

Fitz's existing contract is not etched in stone. It's subject to revision and a "poison pill" ensures that it will be in early 2015. So, yes - that $23m can and, I suggest, will go away.

Check you numbers. The "dead money" post 2014 is $5m, plus the balance of his new prorated bonus.

$14, 15m range.

What one must hope the Cardinals and Fitzgerald already have an idea of what they are going to do next year---that at least some parameters are in place.

I think this is the most logical statement that has been made so far about the future of Fitzgerald with the team and I doubt it was not discussed :)

Glad I was the first to think of it then. ;)

Unless you extend him next off season and tie both base salary and the bonus due next year into that extension. The question you have to ask, why would they restructure to move more money to an already big 2015 if they did not have a bigger plan. They would have been better off cutting him now instead of next year if that were the case.

So I heard this morning that yesterday or Monday that this was first day that players could sign deals like this one, so I would have to assume with all the reports lately that this has been in place for some time. Heck, it could have been in place since last season. Based on that, I would nt be surprised if something else is also not already in place for next season, actaully I am pretty confident in that based on Keim and how he does things. I think they keep doing these work around deals until the final year and then extend him one last time and spread out the remaining money from this deal to that deal. I am not worried at all and feel Fitz retired a Card.

Also, this new deal makes him untradeable until at least next year since the cap hit this year would be astronomical. So can we stop the Fitz trade rumor threads for at least the next year?

Does anyone have any examples where an organization and a player just tore up the old contract and began with a new fresh one?

Also unless Fitz's production goes way the hell up he won't be with the value of the new contract you're suggesting either.
Larry Fitzgerald and the Cardinals!!!

Yea because the cardinals have a history of being smart with the cap and decisions like this. To just assume they can "fix" the 24 million dollar cap figure with Fitz remaining on the roster is wishful at best.

This team doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt even with Keim as the GM.

The only plausible scenario is cutting him and having to carry a huge amount of dead cap space.

HMMMMM I guess the data and numbers guy might have seen what they were doing way back last year. And they did just that by making it a 4 year deal that voids after year two to spread the money out.
