If it would have continued to next season, it would have been fine. If they would have, like, actually ended it, it would have been fine. Heck, if it was supposed to be a mystery-ending show, that would even have been fine. Yeah, it was none of the above.

It got canceled. It was written and shot with the intention that it would be back next season.

Yes but everyone knew the show was on the bubble. They could have written the final episode with some closure then added a twist or something in case it came back. Many first year shows on the bubble do that.

I understand what he is saying.

Bah.

Seems like tying everything up and putting a bow on it would just make it easier for the execs to cancel it. If they knew with enough advance warning to re-write and shoot the final couple of eps, I'd agree with you. But I think shows should write as if they're going to be able to tell the story they want to tell, otherwise everything will suffer should it indeed have gotten renewed.

Bah. Chuck did it, perfectly. All it takes is a little bit of imagination from some skillful writers. Flashforward apparently didn't have that.

you gotta remember, a lot of these shows are fully in the can before they even air. so they're done shooting an entire season before an audience even sees it, much less before the network learns of the value the viewing audience places on the show.

for instance, with cheese's show, miami medical, they were all out of the warner bros studio offices before the first episode ever aired. they didn't have one set of nielsen ratings to review while still shooting. how are they supposed to know they'll not get picked up for season 2?

i liked the show, and was disappointed it didn't go another season, but man did that ending just stink imo.
