Besides Neal, the only offensive 'skill' player in the bunch. Nice.

Well, your arbitrary picture book is a pretty good argument for the fact that the holder of 11th place in NFL receiving yards and 11th place among wideouts in receptions is actually one of the top 5 players at his position in the National Football League.

I guess I stand corrected.

As they say: There are lies, damn lies and statistics!

Well, isn't that a convenient excuse? Anquan's tied for 14th place among wideouts in first-down receptions, behind even Marques Colston, who missed a quarter of the season. He's tied with Mike Furrey. He doesn't even rank among the top 20 or so in first-down percentage.

If you believe that Anquan's greatness doesn't show up on the stat sheet or whatever, then why even bother engaging me in the argument? Shake your head and say, "Man, the kid just doesn't get it," and move on. Don't you think that if Anquan really were one of the best 5 WRs in the NFL today, it would show up somewhere statistically? I think the only place that he ranks in the Top 5 for WRs is in YAC yards, but he only has 31 more than Colston and 50 more than T.O., both of whom missed a lot of time this season. Maybe that's an overrated statistic?

But that can't be the case, since it's the only statistic that Anquan's a leader in, right?

Chad Johnson, Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Roy Williams, Steve Smith, Marques Colston, Donald Driver, Javon Walker, Plaxico Burress, T.J. Housh. And Fitz are all better receivers. I like Boldin quite a bit but K-9 is right in that Boldin is not an elite receiver just a very good one. That said he has intangibles such as leadership which is rare. He is selfless and a team player which means a lot.

NO ONE IN THE HISTORY OF THE NFL HAS MORE CATCHES IN THE NUMBER OF GAMES PLAYED.

Anquan has intangibles that can't be easily measured, which was the point of the evaluation being made of him and others in the story.

If stats were the final word on players, then the NFL combine and its measurements of players would be the final say on whether someone can play the game, stat boy.

First, a career ranking based on receptions is probably the weakest stat you can deploy here. We had a fullback that had a lot of receptions not too long ago. Was the the best fullback in NFL history? Was he ever even the best fullback in the NFL in any given year? Yes, Anquan got a lot of catches for two years, and continues to. Good for him.

Your combine comment is as silly as it is ignorant. It doesn't even justify a response.

He was the best receiving fullback ever. Anybody who could get over 100 receptions playing in a Buddy Ryan offense deserves that distinction.

Receptions are huge for a WR. Whether you like it or not. He was also the 2nd fastest in NFL history to 4,000 yards only behind Moss. Well on his way to a HOF career should he stay healthy. That must really bug you.

Not really. I'm actually really happy that he's putting up those numbers, even if they are inflated from two wholly horrible seasons for his team at the beginning of his career. I'm sure that Randy Moss and Marvin Harrison had only twice as many TDs as Anquan did on the way to their reception marks and yardage marks, but TDs are totally overrated, right?

Right?

Even TD totals are skewed depending on the offensive scheme the team plays. As any kid knows a team that throws more is going to have receivers with more TD catches. A team that takes its wide receivers out and brings in a BIG package near the goal line will produce the opposite.

Having over 100 catches with a second rate QB, a totally out classed coach, and with every team knowing that you were the only option is amazing.

With your heavy emphasis on TD's you would have loved Daryl Turner a former Seahawk WR who was on my first ever fantasy football team. Turner played in only 59 games because of drug problems, caught 101 passes and scored 36 Touchdowns. He had 36 catches for 13 TD's in 85 the year I had him. His last year in the NFL he had 14 catches. And scored on 6 of them.

Wasn't this a response, silly???

Short of ignorance, one would would conclude that all other stats begin with the wideout catching the ball. Elementary logic, I would think.

Right, so wouldn't you expect Anquan to have more TDs considering that he's on a passing team and gets more chances than almost anyone else in the NFL (tied for 6th in the NFL in targets)?

Torry Holt this season has scored a TD every 7.6 receptions. Terrell Owens has scored a TD every 7 receptions. Steve Smith scores every 11.8 catches he gets. Reggie Wayne scores every 8.75 catches. Marvin Harrison finds the end zone every 12.3 receptions.

Anquan, every 17.5 TDs. Shouldn't he get within at least shouting distance of these guys before we start lumping him in with them? I don't need him to be Plaxico Burress (6 catches/TD) or Darrell Jackson (6.3 rec/TD), but shouldn't Anquan be in the 12-15 range before we start saying that he's a Top 5 guy? Ocho Cinco scores every 11 receptions. Houshmanzadeh, every 9.1.

Even his stoutest proponents should be able to admit that Anquan's having a down season this year, right? Will probably have career lows in receptions, yards, and TDs in a year when he wasn't injured? He may have a career high in YPC, but it would only be a half-yard above his career average...

Career REC/TD Stats for Elite WRs

Just so you know where Anquan compares right now with a lot of the guys that you seem to be comparing him to:

Anquan Boldin: 329 rec, 20 TDs, 16.45 Rec/TD

Randy Moss: 676 rec, 101 TDs, 6.7 Rec/TD
Marvin Harrison: 1001 rec, 116 TDs, 8.6 Rec/TD
Jerry Rice: 1549 rec, 197 TDs, 7.9 Rec/TD
Cris Carter: 1101 rec, 130 TDs, 8.46 Rec/TD
Steve Smith: 332 rec, 28 TDs, 11.9 rec/TD
Terrell Owens: 793 rec, 112 TDs, 7.1 rec/TD
Larry Fitzgerald: 217 rec, 22 TDs, 9.9 rec/ TD
Joe Horn: 576 rec, 57 TDs, 10.1 rec/TD
Rod Smith: 839 rec, 67 TDs, 12.5 rec/TD
Torry Holt: 695 rec, 64 TDs, 10.9 rec/TD
Issac Bruce: 871 rec, 79 TDs, 11 rec/TD
Hines Ward: 631 rec, 58 TDs, 10.9 rec/TD

Even if you don't agree, can you at least see how I might have a point when I say that I don't think that Anquan isn't a Top 5 WR in the NFL, much less be one of the best WRs to ever play the game? Doesn't this seem to indicate that what Anquan might be is a really, really good possession receiver? Can't that be enough?

Just more Maddenesque/Fantasy Footballish takes on real football.

Proves a great lack of real knowledge of the game.

Anquan Boldin is our replacement for Larry Centers.

Was this not another game when Anquan should have come up big if he were one of the best WRs in the game and instead put up an average (or worse) performance?

Maybe it was just me, but it sure seemed like he gave up on that slant route for the interception to Bailey.

Funny how you come in here and bust on him after a little under average performance during a game in which the whole O played poorly form the OL to the QB and even your boy Fitz didnt do jack. Yet you never show around here when he has an incredible game of give him his props?

I've been on here when Anquan's had great games and given him credit for it. It's just been so long since he's had one of those "incredible game of his" that you probably don't remember.

On the other hand, I'm not claiming that Fitz is one of the Top 5 WRs in the NFL, and so I don't really feel the need to come on and apologize for him. That being said, it sure didn't look like it was #11 giving up on a slant route that resulted in an INT to begin the game.

I happen to think that big players come up big in big games. Where was the best WR in the NFL today when this team needed him to be big?

I'm sure the excuses will pour out like they always do for when Superman just can't get it done, but I want you to remember that I wasn't the one who started this thread.

That's a ridiculous assertion. Boldin was open but Leinart threw a bad pass.
The only way that throw is a completion is if the WR is Justin Gatlin.
