It's not a good thing when in order to promote someone all you think to do is basically say "well, atleast he doesn't suck as much as this other guy".

He lost me when he had to brag that he has somehow been responsible for Manning, Brady and Romo.

And nothing in that article says much about Thompson doing anything wrong. He just thinks he is setting himself up to take the fall if this situation blows up. Thopmson is one of the best GMs in the game IMO. He turned that team around with lightnig speed. Every move they make that I say "Why would you do that" has seeemed to work out for him. I'd still take Thompson over Graves.

He'd be too passive. We need someone with a killer instinct. See if Barabas is available for STs.

Darn tootin. That turn the other cheek stuff wouldn't work with Rosenhaus, he woud eat him alive.

Drew - "You're the son of who????" "Really!" "Does he have a agent?"

All you have to do is go by anytime you hear about the worst run franchises in all of sports, there are 3 teams that are ALWAYS mentioned, the Los Angeles Clippers, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the Arizona Cardinals. Why is that? It's not just us.

You're not drinking enough Koolaid and we all know that those who write articles like that about the Cards don't have a clue on what's going on here.

I agree to a point, but he singlehandedly tore that team to shredds at first and then rebuilt it. What everyone is missing is the TT thinks that this team will still be tied to Ron Wolfe until Brett Favre is gone. Theerfore giving him little credit.

Also If RG ran the Cards like TT does the packers, all the RG haters would nail his "Jimmies" to a fence post. He firmly believes in very few free agents and trading down to get extra picks whenever possible.

Not me, I love building through the draft and have been a big fan of how he has accumulated pick and brought youth and untapped talent to the roster.

I was going to respond but I'm too distracted by Natalie Gulbis.

Maybe, but Thompson does what he says, too. Check out from this article what Thompson was able to do last offseason:

http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=589678

The Packers have signed only one free agent this off-season - backup cornerback Frank Walker - but they have locked up Barnett, cornerback Al Harris and defensive end Cullen Jenkins to long-term deals in just the last 3½ months.

In all, they have spent roughly $35 million in bonus money to secure Barnett, Jenkins, Harris, center Scott Wells and defensive end Aaron Kampman to long-term deals over the past year. In contrast, they have spent only $15 million in bonus money over the same period on free agents Charles Woodson, Ryan Pickett, Marquand Manuel and Walker.

So, last offseason, Thompson was able to actually secure his own players, re-signing 5 players to go along with two solid free agent starters and two other depth-ish guys.

Graves was eventually able to get a deal done with Fitzgerald, but did nothing to lock up the other pending free agents (Eric Green and Antonio Smith) nor get anything done with the Franchise player on the roster, or the unhappy veterans with long-term contracts (Boldin, Dockett, and Wilson).

Reputations change slowly; particularly when going from bad to good. I think that the moniker, "worst run" was deserved by the Cardinals in years past, when Bill Bidwill was hands-on and running operations.

That responsibility has passed on to Michael Bidwill. Since Michael's ascension and the building of the stadium the Cardinals have changed the manner in which they conduct business. But until the winning seasons come and happen repeatedly, the reputation will remain.

QUOTE]

Yeah, to build it back up you have to tear it down. But he did it so fast that it is easy to forget it usually takes most teams 2-4 years to do what he did on one. That is impressive.

As for Favre being a tie to Wolfe I think that is a crock. Favre said he thought Thompson lied when the media asked if Favre lobbied for Moss. Wait, a GM is not genuine with his intentions and what happens behind locked doors? Seems pretty standard. If you make that supposition that Thompson takes it personally and wants his own stamp, then by the same token Favre is probably bitter because he feels Wolfe would let him act exactly the way Favre is and it would be fine.

The truth is in the middle of both ideas. And I see both sides, and disagree with both and agree with both. I do think that this is a game played a little too much by Mr. Favre and somebody had to put their foot down. BUT, when they put their foot down they needed to do it in a more sympathetic way that treated him with more respect than they did.

BTW, I would care less how he did it (free agent, picks, trades), as long as we were a Super Bowl contender and Division winner.
