As some of you may or may not know I work in an upscale bar in downtown Ft. Lauderdale that affords me the opportunity to meet quite a few athletes/celebrities. Just in the past month I have met NFL players John Elway, Cris Carter, Daunte Culpepper, Kelly Washington, Zach Thomas etc.

So why am i relaying this to the Cards board? Well the other night (Sat.) i was talking to a lady and she pointed to some enormous african american guy and said "That guy over there keeps offereing to buy me a drink. He says he is in the NFL. Have you ever heard of Daniel Graham?" Knowing the love for him I have seen on this board due to him being a FA I headed over there before she even gets out the last syallable.

So i said to him "Arn't you Daniel Graham?" and he responded yes.

Me: " Do me a favor. In two months when your deciding over offers just do us all a favor and sign with the Arizona Cardinals."

DG - " Why would i do that?"

Me - " Because we need a TE that can block and catch such as yourself"

DG - "Oh. But didn't you guys just get rid of Denny?"

Me - " Yeah. But Whisenhunt is a lot better at incorporating the TE in to the passing game and you would be a star over there"

DG - " You a Cardinal fan"

Me - " Diehard"

DG - " Ok - I'll keep them in mind"

and i walked away........

So when he catches the game winning TD in Glendale next year in early February you just remember who put the wheels in motion....

I'm curious--how did he seem in his responses? I ask because when I read the dialog, I read it as no way in hell is he coming here, but obviously any of these things could be read any way you want...

1. "Why would I do that?" (as already pointed out, seems like it's the last place he might want to go)
2. "Didn't you just get rid of Denny?" (sounds like Green may have been an attractive coach for him)
3. "ok - I'll keep that in mind" (seems somewhat sarcastic)

Neither him or Asante are coming here. Kraft decided that in order to win he needs to pay his players. He found out the hard way when Caldwell dropped two key passes against the Colts. Plus those guys were so close to the Superbowl I think that they will take a slight cut to win a SuperBowl. Plus there's an article in the Boston Globe that says Kraft will spend up to and over the cap and he said Grahm and Samuel are top priorities.

Well first of all he sounded - as is to be expected - a little drunk and bewildered that some randome spiky haired kid in South Florida would be imploring him to join the Cardinals of all teams

I would say his response to the intital question was more of intrigue than "Are you kidding me the Cardinals"

As for the part about Denny - I get the feeling Denny is VERY popular among the players in the league, especially the african american ones. I have seen this with Edge who had no prior experience with him and it seems that many people respect what he did in Minny with Moss and see him as an attractive coach to play for as he is loyal to his players and is for all intensive purposes a "players coach". It seems to me that the Cardinals are seen as being more at fault for the troubles the last three years at least among players. Unfortunately thats a stigma we will have to overcome.

As for the last comment - In all honesty i think he hadn't really considered them before and it seemed to me he was doing a mental rolodex of the roster as he said that. I didn't get any hint of sarcasm. I can't help but think if Arizona puts out a good offer and pitch he won't think back to that convo in at least some part...

That is if he remembered any of it.....;)

I disagree about Samuel not leaving. Kraft may be willing to go over the cap ( I could see them pursuing Moss ) to get what he needs but I get the feeling Samuel rankled a few feathers when he started talking about being underpaid right before the playoffs. He also has a tattoo that says something to the effect of "show me the money". Theres no way in hell he is going to take less money to stay with them.

Im thinking Pioli and Belicheck see him as being more a product of the system who played well at the right time. I guess we will find out....

I wouldn't think he would be too tough to sell, if the Cardinals want him they can likely get him. He is from AZ (HS & College) and his family still lives in the Valley and I doubt he is at the top of too many free agent lists.

He'd be an upgrade over Walters thats for sure.

Nice! This is one of the most common mistakes in the English language.
Speaking of, I'm reading "Children of Men" right now and I was blown away to read the word "nonplussed" being used correctly. I don't think I've EVER heard/read it used appropriately.

The author is British, and since they invented the language maybe they know how to use it better. I dunno how else to explain it.

Bill Bryson wrote a very good book, quite funny too, on the adaptation of the english language in USA. Id recommend it.

According to a Boston Herald article the other day Kraft said he wants Samuel back.
