Anyone have any info about how Reich fits on the coaching tree?

Does Whiz know him from somewhere?
Have Grimm, Miller, Whiz, or Horton worked with him at some point?
Systematically, does his background even line up with the offense we run?

It doesn't seem like a "normal" Whiz hire. because of that, I think it might have been the loudest announcement to the world that we will pursue PM.

Some things I am thinking about:
I read that PM and Reich are tight. If so, have FR & PM talked while he has been out of work?
Could this lead to improved back-channel communications?
Could PM have told him it was a good place for him to go?
Is FR deep into our playbook right now, re-naming plays to PM's vernacular?

Just some stuff to throw out there.

While I don't have actual information about this hire, it would seem to me that Reich would be the perfect hire to teach our receiving corps all the nuances of Manning's pre-snap reads and calls. He would seem to be the one person who knows this process as well as Manning does, and who might be able to impart this knowledge to our receivers. Things have just become very interesting in my opinion. It would seem that the Cards are poised to go all-in on the Manning chase, and that they have just sweetened the pot with a nice raise by hiring Reich.

My reason for believing this is a bad hire. This was worse than the Doug Flutie hail Mary pass for myself and my son, who was 8 years old and sitting next to me in the stands. I cannot support this man. :bang:

The biggest highlight of his college career was the comeback he led against the University of Miami Hurricanes on November 10, 1984 at the Orange Bowl Stadium. Reich came off the bench to play for Stan Gelbaugh, who had previously replaced him as the starter after Reich separated his shoulder in the fourth week of the season against Wake Forest. Miami quarterback Bernie Kosar had led the 'Canes to a 31-0 lead at halftime. At the start of the third quarter, Reich led the Maryland Terrapins on multiple scoring drives. Three touchdowns in the third quarter and a fourth at the start of the final quarter turned what was a blowout into a close game. With the score 34-28 Miami, Reich hit Greg Hill with a 68-yard touchdown pass which deflected off the hands of Miami safety Darrell Fullington to take the lead. Maryland scored once more to cap a 42-9 second half, and won the game 42-40, completing what was then the biggest comeback in NCAA histor

Well, to take your mind off of that game, you can always think about the '86 Fiesta Bowl. Damn, but the Hurricanes looked snazzy in those camo pants :D

Shrewd move, Whis. Even if it doesn't work, I'm impressed by the effort.
Hiring Reich sure can't hurt.

But even if we don't sign Manning, we still have McNulty to coach our young QB's and Reich remaining to coach our receivers with the potential for us to flip-flop or merge responsibilities between the 2 should it be necessary.

Elegant move.

All I know for sure is, Shane has painted himself into a corner.

If PM never comes here, the collective board will just say "Can you fault a man for dreaming?"

But if PM does sign here, Shane will have to endure the unimaginable for his hundreds of Debbie Downer "notgunnahappen" posts. :p

I posted this in another thread, but I think it is applicable here as well.

If you buy into the idea that there is tampering in the NFL and that Peyton is really going to determine where he wants to go, you have to believe that there will be things that he asks potential teams to address. QB's of his stature generally have influence over moves that teams will make in order to make the QB feel like he is being given the tools that he needs to succeed. I'm not saying that Peyton Manning will tell the team he is interested in playing for to draft a linemen or sign a top WR, but he will ask the team how they plan to address any areas that he is concerned with and the trust the team to make those changes.

For example, let's say that Peyton liked the situation in AZ on paper, however he had concerns about the offensive line and the WR depth. You have to assume that he will ask the team what they plan to do to address those issues, and then determine if he likes their plan of action and believes that they will follow through. IMO this is why the Frank Reich signing is interesting. I can't believe that Peyton would have passed a message through Fitzgerald saying that he wanted the Cards to sign Reich as a coach to get him to sign there. What I do believe is that a concern Peyton would have would be a lack of familiarity with the offensive scheme, and the time it would take to acclimate to the situation.

So Larry would ask, "what would it take to get you to AZ?"

Manning would probably come back with, "Well I like a lot of things about the team, but I don't have any connections with anyone so I am a bit worried about the time it would take to adjust to the coaches and the coaches to adjust to me."

The Cardinals hearing this might be inclined to do more digging on a coach (Reich) Peyton was familiar with (ala checking w/ Bill Polian), and if they thought was a good fit either way, they would sign him.

I am sure that the same can be said in regards to our offensive line. I can't see Peyton signing in AZ without being convinced that the Cardinals would be making significant strides to improve the unit as a whole.

I'm absolutely convinced scenarios like you have discussed occur. Although for most athletes, contracts and compensation are first and foremost. A player like Peyton, making as much money as he has, won't need to worry about the details in the contract as much as 'picking the best place to go.'

i don't want Polian or Graves anywhere near this team.
, why wouldn't you want Polian? Is his track record not good enough?
I would take almost anyone to get Graves away from this team.
