But this is certainly not good news for us! Added to the list of a QB and a few other positions is suddenly the need to re-sign our #2 receiver (Breaston), our starting C (Sendlein) and, I think, our top OG (Lutui). Not good news at ALL!

I was thinking the same thing. I don't think this arrangement helps our team at all.

Kiss #15 & #76 goodbye!!! :bang: Branch will probably get a solid offer also.

Losing Deuce with or underachieving Oline isn't a good thing...and the hits keep coming to our team & it's bunch of never pro-active front office. Deuce is still pissed at management & I don't blame him. Up next...Fitz. If Fitz leaves (which I believe), fans may never support this team again like it has since the stadiums arrival.

If what we have to agonize over is Breaston/Sendlein/Lutui, then we are in worse shape than any of us thought. This is a leaguewide thing. There are probably 30 players who we would have a shot at who could at least replace their productivity (not at each position, 30 players combined for the 3 positions).

Kolb is under contract thru next year. Unless of course the new cba voids all contracts on players with 4,5,6, years in league.

That's how I'm reading it. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me....

You are way wrong.

As for if it is good or bad for the Cards. It is both. On one hand it makes Breaston, Branch, Lyle, and Deuce free agents. But on the other hand this will super saturate the market making it easier to re-sign those guys, making it easier to replace those guys, and lowers the price on all free agents(supply and demand).

it kinda makes sense that they would grandfather in the terms of current contracts and make this clause for contracts going forward.

Yes.

This would only apply to player's without contracts and "x" number of years of service. Otherwise, you'd be voiding all existing agreements with players under this definition and making them free agents.

The problem with this, Joe, is that it makes it easier to do all those things for PROACTIVE teams. We are far too slow and listless when it comes to FA, especially a FA period like we'll have, to have faith that we'll come out even, let alone ahead.

We will lose Deuce--he is still stewing over last offseason-- and Branch after getting punked by Whis and Co. way too often... I They'll be able re-sign Breaston and Lyle though...

it should probably say "free agents who have accrued at least four years of service will be unrestricted free agents"

this would be new -- under the old CBA, a player who came to the end of his contract after four years was a "restricted free agent" where the club could tender them at various levels of a one year contract offer, and thus maintain the right to match offers that player receives from other clubs or receive draft pick compensation from that other club.

So you are saying we are losing Breaston, Lutui, and Sendlein this year.

-- and Branch after getting punked by Whis and Co. way too often... QUOTE]

How dare they!

Demanding a player to play to his potential, and when the player finally listened to the coaches he succeeded at a level he has never seen, and would have doubtfully been able to achieve on his own to then say the coaches "punked" him ? Inconcievable !!!

HOW DARE THEY! Those bastards.

Run Alan Branch, run away as fast as you can. Cause Whiz had nothing to do with it, Kurt Warner taught Alan Branch everything he knows.

I don't think the cardinals are going to take their time in free agentcy.

the free agent period is going to short and every team is going to be getting in contact with the players they want. The front office is going to be working 24-7 to get the players they want.

That would be a first vinny.

I'm quite sure the Cards will be heavily in pursuit for Kolb once the FA period starts, trying to get him in to learn the playbook...so IMO most others will lay on the backburner!!! I'll believe it when I see it.

Shocker of the year will be to see Graves act quickly in free agency. You would think they have a planned laid out of who they are going to target but we're talking RG here.

I wouldn't consider Breaston an easy re-sign. My friend teaches with his fiancee and supposedly they would like be closer to family back east.
