Even Dockett was questioning the TE pick last night as someone posted his twitter tweet last night pointed out.

Dockett is a great player but anybody who thinks he's an expert on the NFL draft is deluding themselves.

I get that people wanted a LB not a TE, maybe the Cards just didn't like any of the lB's that were there.

I posted this on another post earlier.

And add the following free agents it could be a good off season

Mark Bulger, a deal is already in place repoted by Scouts.
Justin Blalock, LOG Atlanta, Can Atlanta sign both their starting (Harvey Dahl) OGs to large contracts?
Kevin Burnett, ILB San Diego, Attacking MLB with excellent covering skills, gained much confidence after leaving Dallas.
Lawrence Vickers, FB Cleveland,Top 2-3 best blocking FBs in the league.
Lededu Naanee, WR San Diego, Would be a great #3 WR. Last year 16.1 yards/catch

Unbelievable.

When the team drafts for need and whiffs badly the fans on this board go nuts.

When the team drafts who they think is the best player available the fans on this board go nuts.

Obviously this is a work in progress.

Rome wasn't built in a day.

Beannie wasn't getting it done. Injuries aside, he ran tentatively, often.

HT had talent, but when you relied on him results were mixed at best.

I'd say wait and see what we have before everyone goes off.

Yes, there is disappointment, because we agreed to a different draft strategy for the most part on this board, and disagree with their strategy.

It doesn't mean it won't produce good results in the end. And that's what we have to balance the RAGE with.

It's just possible, they may have gotten some very good players. Despite many's doubts and disillusionment.

We'll just have to see.

What the selections of Williams and Houser do---more than anything else---is continue to damage Ken Whisenhunt's credibility with his own players. His own players haven't been playing hard for him---and, hey, if you are Darnell Dockett or Adrian Wilson or Kerry Rhodes...what do you imagine they are thinking after last night?

I will assure you of this---they are more feeling even more incredulous---even more irate---and even less trusting of the so-called brain trust than we are.

Two things: Why did NE (with a host of picks) and the Jets... who both need rush LB's pass on these 2nd, 3rd round gems you've been 'pimping"?

And, please, by all means express your views - but don't suggest for a moment that you speak for the dressing room.

Yes.
Draft for talent first, need second.

True dat.

Bringing in Horton alone went a long way to solving the D's issues.

They would not lay it down for Davis....and the O was inept.

Plus the D added the 1st or 2nd biggest impact player of the draft.

Krang---I hear you...and I can fathom the BPA philosophy with PP7 and Ryan Williams...but there is no way Rob Housler is the BPA at #69...not can one make an insightful case as to why a situational pass catching TE was the biggest need.

So, in this case it's neither BPA or need. That's why going nuts in this case is warranted, imo. And going nuts over using yet another high draft pick on a RB. The context here is the issue.

Mitch, if they use Beannie to get Palmer here, would that help?

Really!

Tight end Rob Housler and wide receiver Lestar Jean worked out for pro scouts on a windy Thursday in Boca Raton. Housler, NFLDraftScout.com's No. 5 tight end, didn't work out on Thursday. He is a name many will recognize because he posted a 4.46-second 40-yard dash -- and 37-inch vertical -- at the NFL Scouting Combine last week. Just as important to pro scouts was the fact that the projected third-round pick weighed in at 248 pounds at the Combine; significant considering arrived at FAU as a 218-pound receiver. Housler's game is his athleticism but he has an impressive 80-inch wingspan and did 22 reps of 225 pounds, showing potential to develop as an inline blocker. Twelve teams attended the workout, including the Dolphins, Colts, Packers, Bills, Jaguars, Saints, Giants, Raiders, Eagles, Titans and Buccaneers. - NFLDraftScout.com

Cardinals trusted THEIR board. Did not reach for mixed results.

Projected 3rd rounder by whom?

Until he learns how to block, if he ever does, he is a situational TE...which hardly projects to the #69 pick in any draft unless you are a team loaded with talent and can afford the luxury of picking a situational player.

This just in...................................

We need STARTERS at LB...

And we take a situational TE instead.

And you are fine with that?

Wow.

Thank AZ JAM
My pleasure. Its too easy to get negative when we see players we like not being taken for players that we don't know. This also relates to positions that we all feel must be filled. I really think that the Card organization (Bidwill, Graves & Whisenhunt) know that they blew it last year and are going to put a competitive team on the field this year. They are going for BPA in the draft and fill their other needs through trades and free agency once they are allowed.
We just need to be patient. However, this Board is great for letting everyone express their views which I certainly respect.

Wow.

Absolutely 100% on the money. We get a guy who got the majority of his receiving yards playing out of the slot rather than as a traditional TE, we might as well have drafted another WR.

If they don't put a competitive team on the field will you still come up with excuses? I am more than willing to give kudos when they are due, especially when I am wrong, but it seems there are a lot of people that accept whatever the Cardinals do results be damned.

You are right on, Zeno. There were better value picks at WR at #69 than a situational TE.

He's just as fast as a receiver. Much better after the catch, I'd wager, much stronger than any WR we could've brought in.

Cobb was the only other receiver I would have considered to play in the slot.

I'm a fair weather fan and will make my feelings known though my pocketbook. I have Club Seats that cost me over $3,000. I'm in the 3rd and last year of the Club section lease. If they stink like last year I won't resign. I'll still follow them but not waste money on going to the game. I do expect results.

Great post, CT.

One of the best ways to stunt and deter the growth of a football team is to draft at the same positions over and over again---due to failures of bringing the previous talent along.

This is happening in spades with the Cardinals...

I think this is my biggest problem/reason for my disappoinment. It doesn't seem like we are increasing the talent on this team. We all know (and probably expect) that the front office is going to let some of our high priced guys walk (dansby/rolle/boldin last year). But I was hopeful that, much like the Steelers, we'd be replacing that talent with some homegrown, younger studs. This does not seem to be happening. We seem to be missing on too many high draft picks, and even the lower round gems were finding are regressing.

Examples - Beanie (soon to be gone?), Cody Brown (gone), Buster Davis (gone), Doucet (unhealthy), Breaston (regression), Ben Patrick (soon to be gone?), C. Cambell (ok, but not meeting high expectations), Branch (underachieved), Levi Brown (somewhat underachieved).
I see a bunch of guys who could/should, but aren't. At least not last year. Could that be abberation? Sure. Or it could be a trend.

Combine this with the bad judgement in the whole Lienart/Anderson/Bulger QB fiasco of last year and I'm not feeling real optimistic about where this franchise is and where it's going.

It's disappointing because I was full on the Whiz bandwagon but more and more I'm thinking it was the magic of Kurt Warner.

Thats my point, we drafted a guy who is listed as a TE but plays like a WR, from the descriptions I have read Breaston and Komar are better downfield blockers. People act like we got our answer at TE but we didn't, we got a project.
