I am going to say:

#3 is REALLY unlikely.

#2 is REALLY scary (as BC said)

So #1 is the right answer. Ayton is 1. Doncic is 2. They are prepping for the other 50% with a smokescreen.

And Sarver is a graduate of the University of Arizona. I don't think there is a bad choice if the Suns draft Ayton.

Didn't know that. Him stopping in for a game might mean even less than.

The fact that the team reporter thought it was interesting tells me enough. Locals were not remotely in the loop on this and didn't see it coming.

The owner of the team is watching a potential pick. So what? This is all just a bunch of whining over nothing. Jumping to conclusions for no reason. Wanna bet Sarver saw a UofA game this season?

I'm thinking yes. And he liked Ayton as much as the rest of the country does.

So you are on the #3 side of things.

The only NBA owner at that game. Done in basically secret. While his buddy is running him down locally. GM not there. Suns local reporter was shocked and thought it significant.

Total coincidence

So he is still playing General Manager ... or scout? He is an investor, damnit. Won't he ever leave the technical side of basketball to the people they hired?

Exceptional witness indeed! Why? Because he doesn't trust the people they hired to do the job? That says a lot.

If you think that opinion is wrong, please tell me why.

Thanks.

Sarver has bowman owned the suns for how long? You don’t think he’s picked up anything in that time? I don’t want him calling the shots and I hope he ultimately leaves basketball matters to basketball people, but I suppose I’m happy enough that our owner cares and is engaged enough to want to see one of the potentially most important pieces that we could add to our team for decades.

The owner watching a possible #1 pick? A guy who could, if drafted, determine at least part of what revenue the team could make in a year? Yeah I can see why people are confused.

Come on Chris. This is one of those times that hate of Sarver the man is clouding rational judgment. First, it’s not “in secret,” second, he may be the only NBA owner at that game, but who are you to know what other owners are doing?

You are also assuming Gambo is his “buddy,” And right now is pure speculation.

I’m also wondering why this matters to you.

I am not assuming anything about Gambo. It's a fact that he and Sarver are friends. Gambo has talked about how they hang out more than once and how their families hang out.

He is 100% the mouthpiece of the organization in the media. How do you think Gambo is always scooping people on the Suns? It's comical when he says "my sources in the Suns". We all know who it is.

I don't remotely understand the "hate of Sarver" comment. My post isn't remotely denigrating Sarver. I am just trying to figure out our draft board.

Why does it matters to me?

#1. It's newsworthy
#2. It's fun to speculate
#3. It's draft related
#4 This off season is either break out or just hit reset yet again so I pretty much care about it all

So I can easily flip it....

Why does it matter to you to try to dismiss it all? Why get so defensive?

Done in basically secret.

Not much of a secret.

I don't think highly of Doncic, but no matter how low you are on him, you have to admit that he's at least a candidate for #4. The Suns don't know where they are drafting. It makes plenty of sense for Sarver to get a look at him, no matter where Doncic is on Sarver's mental list.

Also, Spain is beautiful this time of year. I'd go if I had a work excuse.

Every euro to you is Darko.

"Has there even been another euro prospect that has had legitimate consideration as the top prospect in the draft? In a strong draft at that."

This was the question. I answered Darko. I take it you didn't like the answer, but instead of explaining why it was wrong (which it isn't), instead you respond by projecting the above stupidity into my train of thought. Good form.

Very fair.

Darko and Doncic are very different prospects, Darko's main failing was a lack of confidence, he was skilled but he was a mental midget who'd never actually done anything on the court. Doncic does not have those issues.

But yeah... in regards to the question of a euro prospect getting huge hype in a strong draft... Darko went second in a draft where 4 of the top 5 will likely be in the Hall of Fame. I'd say it was a pretty strong draft.

Let's not forget Tskitishvili in this conversation. However, throwing all European big men in the same category is the wrong way to go.

There are players like Nowitzki and Porzingis that tell another story.

But if you did throw them all into the same category, you would be right most of the time.

There are issues with Doncic, none of them are that he is a Euro. 1. His athleticism is average, 2. his shooting percentages from three are below average and getting worse, 3. IMO his best position is SG so he is a questionable fit with the Suns.

He might end up being a good player, but in a draft with potential superstars those are real drawbacks for a 6-7 player.
