Yeah. Shooting. Immaturity. Funny how we cut so much slack to Doncic for pouting but want to ship out another 19 year old for the same reason (Chriss).

I will try to keep an open mind, but I really have doubts about Doncic
Still have yet to see anything about him crying or pouting in games. Sure he has had some outbursts (specifically the one after he got ejected), but that is pretty typical for most players having some moments like that, especially young ones.

Chriss is a completely different case because his constant negativity adversely affects his game. Almost every time he messes up he gets upset at himself and it tends to spiral into more poor play. All of that seems to stem from lack of self confidence and self belief. Doncic doesn’t seem to be lacking in those areas.

can you name any of those outbursts for any of the top guys coming out this year? or last year?

Part of me wonders if this kid has been hyped so much that he buys his own press and is a little entitled. Some of you keep saying "these things are normal for young kids", but out Ayton, JJJ, Young, Bamba, Bagley, has anyone said they've shown any sign of attitude problems? Won't look back to all the drafts, but just thinking back to last year, there were off-the court concerns with Ball/Fultz, but not Jackson, Tatum... or anyone else in the top 10 and I don't think it's coincidence that the two guys with question marks like Ball/Fultz had those issues exacerbated as their seasons went on creating questions about them all season and going into the future.

If you're immature at a young age, the bright lights of the big city can amplify that quality. And if there is that kind of attitude at such a young age, is that really what we want to bring in to a team that seems to be made up of good guys, especially at the top with Booker/Jackson?

Actually Jackson had the anger issues. Didn’t he attack and damage someone’s car?

He's still a damn kid. Very few of kids this age will EVER match up to the level of maturity you're expecting. The problem isn't the kids, it's your over inflated expectations.

And then this happened

https://as.com/baloncesto/2018/04/14/acb/1523731783_500441.html

Translation

Luka Doncic signed a great performance in Fuenlabrada (another one): 17 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists: 26 of valuation in the clear triumph of the Whites in their last game before the quarterfinals of the Euroleague . The great Slovenian game had an exceptional witness in the stands: Robert Sarver, owner of Phoenix Suns

Either Sarver wanted a business vacation or he really likes Doncic. I'm thinking it is the latter.

So locally the owners friend is ragging on Doncic on the radio. Privately the owner is at his game 5 days later.

Wouldn't read too much into it. This is a very important pick incoming and Doncic is getting talked about as an option at the top of the draft. Probably just wanted to see what he looked like in person and see what the hype was all about.

I stated at the time that I thought Gambo's thoughts were his alone or Sarver was trying to use him to make fake news about Doncic in hopes that we could get him. Still not convinced at all with the latter TBH.

So he is still playing General Manager ... or scout? He is an investor, damnit. Won't he ever leave the technical side of basketball to the people they hired?

Exceptional witness indeed! Why? Because he doesn't trust the people they hired to do the job? That says a lot.

If you think that opinion is wrong, please tell me why.

Thanks.

I believe this to be true, however, I don't think Sarver makes this trip for most draft picks.

Now I'm wondering if he went to Europe to see Bender play.

Doncic isn't most prospects (especially when talking about euro prospects). Has there even been another euro prospect that has had legitimate consideration as the top prospect in the draft? In a strong draft at that. Since Doncic is a player that you would have to consider taking in the top 2 it makes sense to get as many looks at him as possible. Especially considering I doubt he will go through all the pre draft stuff that the college guys will.

Chris, I cringed when I read that. That means only more mediocrity for our Suns.

The D-backs have gotten it together, even with injuries. The Mercury still has Taurasi, Griner and Bonner to challenge for still another championship.

And the Suns will be "weak sisters" again? And the tanks will appear on the battlefield early next NBA season? :(

Not to mention that Sarver is in Spain often anyway due to him owning a soccer club there.

I think McDonough is in charge but Sarver has the right to see who the Suns might draft. If things go wrong this offseason, I expect McDonough to be gone.

I see nothing wrong with Sarver watching Doncic play to feel secure.

It's likely the new coaching hire will be offering thoughts as well to the Suns team.

So the Suns are both simultaneously ragging on him in public and yet the owner is personally (and very unannounced) at his game.

Why? If you think you take him #1, you publicly state the owner / GM wants to see him play. You certainly don't run him down to your fan base.

Why not send the GM or a scout?

Option #1:

The draft fake: Ayton is #1 on their draft board. You aren't worried about #2 since you either get your #1 or #2.

So the three and four pick are problems. If everyone knows that Gambo is basically the mouth of the organization then running him down makes it seem like you want Bagley, JJJ, or some other big. This keeps someone from jumping above you.

Option #2:

Fractured front office: McDonough and Sarver are split on Ayton and Doncic at #1. Since Gambo is Sarver's buddy and McDonough likes analytics, euros, and recently made peace with Dragic, I would gamble McDonough on the Doncic side. So Sarver goes without his GM to see what he is talking about himself.

Option #3: Sarver happened to be in town and it's all a big coincidence

It's what I'm saying. I don't think Sarver makes this trip for most draft picks meaning this is an important pick.

I am going to say:

#3 is REALLY unlikely.

#2 is REALLY scary (as BC said)

So #1 is the right answer. Ayton is 1. Doncic is 2. They are prepping for the other 50% with a smokescreen.
