Damn...what gives? Even though Johnson, Boldin and D. Johnson clearly outplayed the guys ahead of them, if certain injuries are healed, they'll once again be out of the lineup? That's just not right and, what's worse, it may hinder their growth, especially for D. Johnson, who finally showed a wee little bit of talent on the field!

Looking at the game by game stats the thing that bothers me the most is ONE sack in 3 games! Without a pass rush the defense will be hard pressed to force turnovers or keep the QB from completing a high % of passes. Pace has been ordinary so far, pretty much a disappointment. It was our biggest weakness going in to the offseason and it appears that it still is.

I hope someone steps up and soon.

(our offensive numbers don't look too bad although I expected more from our running game--I do see that improving soon)

PACE is certainly not a disappointment to me...

I've reviewed my tapes of every game... and he's been solid against the run; gets a decent push on almost every play... and has come very close on several outside rushes. Not to mention that he's often double teamed.

It's more than a little difficult, when well over half of the passing plays by oppossing QBs are off 3 and 5 step drops, to get a sack.

MINNESOTA is 3-0 - and they don't even have 1 sack...

Close doesn't cut it for me. You either get a sack or you don't. Pace was brought in here to provide a pass rush and in the 2 games that I've watched(I didn't see Seattle) he rarely even got close. Playing the run is all well and good but his main purpose is to get pressure on the QB.

Minnesota may not have a sack(although I thought they had one last week against Detroit--but I don't know for sure) but their pressure is forcing turnovers, our pass rush is not. Nobody is afraid of our pass rush nobody has to scheme for the Cardinal pass rush--they can block our 4 Dlineman without any special stunts.

Oh and I just looked Minnesota has 6 sacks(according to Sporting News), I don't know where you got zero from.

The Cardinals are the only team in the NFL with only 1 sack, if you don't think the pass rush is a problem you are watching a different game then me.

Until the Cardinals consistently get to the QB or even are a credible threat at getting to the QB they will continue to lose more than they win. I honestly believe everything hinges on that.

Huh?
In the offensive stats, for Detroit game, it shows 3 rushing TD and 0 passing?? Didn't Boldin have 2 of the passing TD's? These are reversed, rushing should be 0 while passing should be 3.

We are dead last #32 in sacks again and I don't see it getting any better... Will be lucky to get 19-21 sacks of each of last two years.

O from their defensive line... according to what I read...

No one says, least of all me... that the pass rush is not an issue, but, simply put - games hinge on keeping the opposition out of your end zone... and, that can be done in a number of fashions.

First and foremost... and offense that time consumes the other teams offensive opportunities; special teams that win the battle for real estate... and, on defence... a run defence that limits the number of short yardage 3rd down conversions.

On the latter, sacks play an important role.. but, hurries do too.

Pace,

Pace's play has been solid. He holds the point of attack and pursues well, and if we get any pressure on the passer it is usually from him. Yes we could use some sacks but lets get him some help and a little more time. The Cards were hammered by many 'experts' on this board for a poor draft, but how many would give up B. Johnson and Pace for Suggs now?

This is a great point...all of these things contribute. And I agree that hurries can be almost as effective as sacks. Unfortunately, we haven't been getting hurries from anywhere. Let's hope our D schemes this week and manages to get some pressure in the backfield to disrupt Bulger.
