I won't have access to a computer for about two weeks due to travel requirements so here's my 15 cents worth---
Scotsman,
Since a good part of my ancestors came from Scotland, I do understand that the Scot's are stubborn. There are a few simple things that have been pointed out a number of times, not only on this board, but also in the news media.
1. Amare is one of the reasons for the Suns success. FJ said himself that Amare would not have gotten the chance if Gugliotta had not been injured. Not much credit for FJ here. Is Amare’s improvement due to FJ, assistant coaches, teammates, himself, or a combination of some or all?
2. FJ started out with a worthless offense plan and stuck with it until one of the players (Marbury) convinced him to change it. Had we stuck with his plan we would be in the running for James. I will give him credit for paying attention, and to me, that means he has a chance of developing into a better coach.
3. FJ loves small-ball and many of the fans are sick & tired of CONSTANT small-ball. We want to see the power positions played with power (TG for Amare).
It is true that the team is playing with a lot of “heart” and I think that FJ has a lot to do with that, or as I said, it could be because Skiles is gone. It is, perhaps, the most important thing the Suns owe their success. Players need to be motivated and a team with high motivation and average talent will beat a team that has better talent with no or low motivation. Some players need to be motivated more than others and it’s up to the coaching staff to figure out how to do this (not only against the better teams, but also against the teams we are supposed to beat).
As I’ve said before, there’s no doubt in my mind that FJ will be the head coach next year. If he improves his coaching ability and understanding of the game, he could become a good coach and if he learns there is more to life than small-ball, he could become a very good coach. I would guess that if big JAKE were as fast as Marbury, could jump like Marion, had the tenacity of Amare, the hustle of Outlaw, the ball handling skills of J Johnson (when he’s on) and the understanding of the game like Hardaway, FJ would play him in spite of the 7’2” big body he is….. or he might realize that being 7’2” and about 300 pounds has a lot of advantages on it’s own. With proper coaching and a chance to develop, big JAKE has as good as chance (if not better) as FJ to be part of the reason we win the NBA championship in two years.
Sorry about the long post, I know I’ve repeated myself and others from pervious posts, but I’m done now, and say let’s put all this BS behind us and go get a win tonight any way we can.
