The problem with that, Daren, is this:

In no way did the Halfhand have to 'piss' Jon off to get him to kill him. It was a premeditated and planned act, Jon knew what he was doing, and he did it deliberately. It shows strength of character and willingness to do whatever it takes to carry out the mission. Instead, he's turned into a puling weakling that has to be cajoled into doing it. Stupid decision.

Have to disagree with you Stout. I think that is exactly what he had to do premeditated or not. Based on how Jon is portrayed in the series he is not a cold blooded calculated killer. Only that type of person could kill a fellow watchman simply because it's planned.

What you call weak I call conscience. He is portrayed in the show with a moral conviction that would prevent anyone from just killing a fellow watchman simply because it's planned. I think the way they portrayed it is EXACTLY what Jon needed to pull it off because of that conscience. Maybe Jon is a different character in the book but in the series it makes complete sense and I don't take it as weak one bit.

Maybe if I had read the book I wouldn't like how they have written Jon in the series. Thinking about buying the first book now that Season 1 and Season 2 are over.

Yeah, that is exactly the problem. Sure, it's good TV, but the character is just so much more shallow on TV than in the book. He's much more whiny and girly than the books, IMO. I mean, he was always a sensitive character, but they've taken it to extremes.

And yes, that is EXACTLY the kind of man you need to be in the Watch. You have to be willing to do anything, anything at all. The Halfhand was a dead man, and so was Jon. This way, the Watch is being served, and the one with more of a future lives.

I agree....although it was a planned event,...halfhand taunted snow to get him pissed so it was easier for him to carry out the mission.....demonstrating halfhands dedication and willingnbess to die for the watch,...as well as to teaching younger rangers what is needed to protect the realm.

Winterfell being burned down made no sense. I know what happens in the books but they could have done a better job explaining.

True....by what you saw on TV....Theon's men were just going to hand him over to the bastard of Bolton and go home.....next thing ya know Winterfell is smoldering with no explanation.....not a good adaptation to the TV....too much wtf?

Yeah, the razing of Winterfell made no sense in the show. I dont get why they didnt introduce the Bastard on screen instead of talking about him offhand. He is a compelling character and it would have made for much better drama in Winterfell this season... and I cant imagine it would have chewed up more than 10 minutes of screen time for the entire season to establish that character for what he is.

The only sense one could make of the shows depiction is that Theon's men set Winterfell alight for a distraction as they made their escape.

'Game of Thrones' put George W. Bush's head on a stake

http://theclicker.today.msnbc.msn.c...rones-put-george-w-bushs-head-on-a-stake?lite

One of the many decapitated heads that appeared on "Game of Thrones" last season was a prop likeness of former President George W. Bush, its creators revealed in a DVD commentary.

In the tenth episode of the first season, Sansa Stark looks at several heads on spikes. One belongs to her father, Ned, and another to the former United States president.

Show creators pointed out their use of Bush's image, but said they weren't making a political statement.

Personally when dude was in office I wanted his head on a stick as well.....not literally but wanted his ass out of office. If that was all they were doing ....F'ing Awesome. If they were being literal....not cool. I wouldn't wish any harm on any of our past Presidents....even Bush.

New article says that they have to rent prosthetic limbs for the show (which they do A LOT), so they aren't always paying attention to what they get. So apparently it was a Bush head, but they didn't realize it until someone pointed it out after the show aired.

Either way, I don't really care. If this somehow forces a cancellation or story changes, then I'd be livid. But I'll probably forget about this tomorrow since it won't change anything.

You of all people know that almost anything out of tv execs and showrunners mouths is spin.

No one knew about it until people saw watched the director's commentary on the DVD. Benioff and Weiss made passing reference to it, then noted they ran out of heads and just grabbed what was available. They put some crazy hair on it, dirtied it up, and shot the side of it. There's no way you can know it's G Dub unless they point it out, and even then it's hard to tell.

My question is why would there be a need for a W dummy head anywhere in Hollywood? If they rented the W severed head from somewhere else, what was its original purpose?

I believe them when they say that it was not a political statement and they were just using what they had on hand. If they wanted an overt political statement, they would have put the head front-and-center without dirtying it up first.

Just received Season 2 on Bluray. Can't wait to catch up to everyone. I'm rewatching Season 1 and have two more episodes before I can start Season 2.

Season 2 nowhere near as good as 1.. Still enjoyable but I am far from excited for season 3 after the way 2 went.

I felt it suffered without Sean Bean and Mark Addy chewing the scenery, but it was pretty savvy to push Peter Dinklage out front. He really carried Season 2. Amazing actor.

The character advancement followed the books as far as main character carriage.

That makes sense. Are we going to see much Dinklage in Season 3? I hope he doesn't disappear.

Kind of rooting for Jon Snow to die now.

Oh, this series is about to kick off again. Book 3 is the best of the lot.

Then will it go down the tubes season four? I heard that one season will encompass 2 books is that this season or next season? I havent read any of the books.

No. Just because book 3 is the best, so far, doesn't mean book 4 or 5 are in any way bad. Now, book 4 is frustrating because of its specific story lines--he screwed up by not following several of the key story lines, and using the first half of book 5 to catch the other ones up. I guarantee you the TV show won't do it that way, so it'll all be good.

I believe Book 3 is the one they're splitting into 2 seasons.
