I almost feel like we should make a separate thread for people who have read the books to exchange notes on the show.

I am among that crowd and there is so much here I am afraid to opine on because I dont want to even remotely give away something or reveal some bias that the books cause.

And speaking of... SPOILER ALERT!
Slin, about Theon's story. This story breakout of torture story line with does take place in the books but not until book five! So the show is starting to take some serious liberties with the sequence here.

As for the Tyrell marriage, Sansa was maneuvered to marry Margaery's gimpy uncle (at least I think it was an uncle), and for the sake of simplicity its easy to why they switched it to Loras. But you never see Varys himself propose it... but he was not a POV character. Olenna Tyrell via Sansa's POV is the one who presents it to the reader but who knows, Varys has his hands in everything so this TV story does got diverge much, and it fits with Varys long term agenda (which has not been revealed to the TV audience) to pit the great houses against each-other.

No need. After this week's episode, the TV show diverged from the books so much, that it was almost like I'd never read them at all. Sure, I know where they are going, and I had lots of "I see what you did there" moments, but I feel like 75% of that episode was made up by the TV writers.

And I will say this, it was really well done. The TV series is starting to take on a life of its own, becoming less and less beholden to the details in the books, which might be a good thing if GRRM doesn't get off his butt and finish the series.

Over the next four weeks, we will a flurry of those major plot points that book readers are just itching to share with non-book readers. I'll be glad when those are out in the open once and for all.

Yeah a little slow but still a lot going on from a character development standpoint:

Theon getting the shaft yet again... or should I say losing it.
:hairraise Ouch!
They haven't held back on the Theon torture scenes that's for sure. Bolton is one twisted dude.

Then we have Jamie's character making a complete 180. Even Brienne recognises it and finally addresses him as Sir Jamie instead of Kingslayer.

Arya sneaking away and getting captured by The Hound

I'm surprised there hasn't been much mention of this yet. This episode shows one of the reasons why the book readers love the saga so much.

Jamie Lannister's arc since Season 1 has been amazing. This is the same guy who is a member of the Kingsguard known as the "Kingslayer". He paralyzed Bran, slept with his sister, and captured Ned Stark in a dirty fight
ultimately resulting in his execution
.

He was absolutely loathed after Season One. And now?

It is truly awesome storytelling.

I cannot wait for next week. It is THE episode the creators always wanted to do. In fact, it was the reason they decided to take a chance on such a risky concept and adapt the series in the first place.

The last two episodes of this season should have lots of payoffs.

EDIT: Bummer. Apparently they aren't showing a new episode next week because it is Memorial Day weekend.

i'll be honest. This show is IMPECCABLY well done, but I'm starting to get a little bored. I could really care less about Jon Snow and his brother, who is so bland, I don't even remember his name.

Everything at King's Landing is pretty dynamite, but everything else just feels...meh. The only characters that are really intriguing to me are Tywin, Cercei, Tyrion and that ridiculous little **** Joffrey...oh...and his bride to be.

Even Khaleesi is starting to bore me. She's been at the edge of that city for like three episodes and building an army but to what end this season? To take a city no one really cares about or is that interesting?

And the White Walkers...uh...they can break steal into a billion pieces but if you can stab them in the back, they explode? Kinda takes the scare out of those guys.

Did you see what he stabbed the white walker with? It wasn't an ordinary knife or sword. I believe Sam showed it to Gilly in the previous episode before stashing it back in his shirt.

I sorta agree. Danni's story is really, really boring at times. She spins her wheels in the same location for 4-5 episodes, then moves on to a new location, only to repeat.

Jon's story has to get more interesting. Sure the King's Landing stuff is great, but it takes a back seat in terms of importance to the stuff above the wall. It won't matter who the King is if the White Walkers come south.

As for the White Walker's weakness, it wasn't explained really well, but the reason it exploded was because of the material the dagger was made of. (It is obsidian, also called "Dragon Glass".) Sam said he found the strange dagger buried at the Fist of the First Men. The While Walkers are invulnerable to most everything (except fire and now this new material), so Sam just became infinitely more important because of this discovery.

It wasn't explained because no one really knew about the purpose of dragonglass any more. It was lost in time. Except for Sam now when he accidently found their weakness.

I meant the TV show didn't draw a clear line for the viewers. Non-book readers may have thought Sam hit some secret self-destruct button on the Walker, rather than assume the dagger had special properties. I hope they explore it a little better in upcoming episodes.

I'm sure they will after Sam saw what happened after he used the dragonglass blade.

I guess if you were not paying attention you could easily have missed all of the dragonglass references. I thought the scene with Sam showing the blade and saying it was pretty but probably useless was pretty well done from a forshadowing standpoint. I don't see how else they could have done it on the show without making it super obvious.

When they ran away, I thought he left the dagger on the ground, so I wonder how they explore it further without him having it in hand.

No Michael Bay explosions...wah wah wah. I'm eating it up. You can't have 100 percent action every episode. This has been incredible character development and scene setting. I can't wait for the last two episodes.

lol...am I the snobby film critic as you put it in another thread or some crybaby simpleton who wants things to go BOOM! Pick a lane there Stout and try not to be a douche about it next time.

and no one's asking for it. I just don't feel like the season has moved along all that much ALL YEAR, much less the last couple weeks. sorry if that seemingly offends you.

like i said, everything at King's Landing is pretty awesome. Everything else...not so much for me.

Not trying to be a douche, dude. My bad. I just absolutely love how the season is setting up in chess-like fashion. The pieces are being moved around the board, the action is tense, and we're getting ready for an incredible roller coaster ride. I hear people complain about this show and it sounds like someone mad about their perfectly prepared filet mignon because the pepper shaker on the table doesn't match the china--nitpicking.

I think it's been fantastic, and I think a lot of the trouble is that people are expecting the big, shocking action and sheer awesome scope of the story every single episode, and it is absolutely impossible to deliver that.

I just disagree in a major way with a lot of people about this season, so I grumble. I know, not me--never!--right? :D

I would agree with you except you used the words tense action. There has really been no action and nothing has had me on the edge of my seat except calisi nude. This season is been a lot of character development and showing the true colors of people.

Incorrect. There hasn't been a ton of action, but there certainly has been action. Climbing of the wall, the Dondarrion/Hound duel, Samwell just killed a white walker, etc. So yes, there's been action, just not a ton. And I'm perfectly fine with that. Sure, if the whole season went by with lower levels of action, I'd be upset. It will not.

Once the last 2 episodes air, I would love to know if you've changed your mind about the whole season.
