Yep. You guys played it out in the discussion as far as where he would have been during the show. IIRC, he was more active, yet still offscreen (off page?) in the books.

That's what I recall as well.

I must say I was disappointed with one part of this last episode:

How can they deny me seeing Margaery doing the walk of atonement!

Indeed, but they should also do ones for Dany and Melisandre (with the choker on)

Then again, the Mountain wasn't always much of a mountain...he used to be a skinny young basketball player.

13 total episodes left after this season is what they said a little while ago, split over 2 seasons.

They're unable to come up with material on their own. Once W+B had to make things up--which competent writer should be able to do, at this point--it started falling apart.

Means after this season, you only have to put up with 13 more insufferable epidoes ;)

Maybe I was just looking for another reason, but "The Broken Man" was the straw that broke this camel's back. Resurrecting a shark to jump is the final proof that without GRR's books, the producers of this show are bereft of entertaining ideas. Will probably binge watch prior to series finale, and catch the very last episode, but the weekly disappointment of this season is over. And now my watch has ended.

It's hard to blame you. I mean, do W+B understand what an arc is anymore? Do they feel like they have to hurry-hurry rush-rush, throw things in they've ignored and bring them to a culmination all in one episode? I thought they had learned their lesson by the progress they made last episode, but...oh well. I mean, for crying out loud, why even bother casting you know who? What a waste.

Assuming I know what you're talking about (LOL), were you seriously surprised? We never saw the guy die originally and the biggest secret that wasn't was that he would be coming back at some time.

Some interesting Arya theories going around...

First I read is that Arya is suffering from some sort of personality disorder and the Waif is actually the 2nd of her personalities.

So here are a few things which are interesting about the waif.
She is only seen by either Jaqen H'ghar or by Arya.
She has a very incredible back story, much like Mercy or Cat of the Canals.
She know's what Arya is doing, all the time. She knows when she lies. She can tell where she is.
She tries to force Arya to leave. She makes her insecure.
So here's my theory, get some tinfoil..
The waif is Arya. Arya is suffering from some sort of bi-polar dissociative identity disorder. A case can be made that when Arya came to the House of Black and White, the water that she drank induced this in her. In a way, The Waif is no one. Her only mission is to kill off Arya, the inner Arya, the one who can never be one of them.
This is why Jaqen H'ghar always wants the Waif to leave the room before he begins talking to Arya. He essentially wants Arya to stop behaving in a dual personality manner. He just wants to talk to Arya. So the Waif leaves. Just when Arya is alone, she appears again.
When the waif asks Jaqen H'ghar, "You PROMISED", it's actually Arya. Arya has finally asked to kill her inner self. Al lot of people have observed that Jaqen H'ghar looks a bit pleased with himself when he permits the Waif.

The second is actually from ew.com -- not sure if it is from an article or a comment... But this speculates that the Arya that gets
stabbed
is not Arya at all.

"I'm kind of shocked that everyone thinks that the stabbed girl was Arya. She wasn't carrying Needle and she was dressed in different clothes that looked suspiciously like Syrio Forel's. There were no scars on her face and she had bag loads of money (when she could barely make a living as a beggar). Her attitude was incautious and glib and completely out of character for Arya. Yeah, that wasn't Arya.

Jaqen/The Kindly Man was able to change his face to hers when she went blind. Who's to say he couldn't have taken her face this time and this is actually a test of the Waif's faithfulness to the order in obeying his command not to let Arya suffer? The Waif clearly disobeyed by twisting the knife in her gut - and by the way, she stabbed "Arya" in the same way Rob's wife Talisa was stabbed during the Red Wedding. I think the Waif is a Frey, and she's about to become the face that is added to the halls of the Faceless Men.

I'm calling it. This whole thing was a test for the Waif and when "Jaqen" said "A girl had many gifts" he was referring to the Waif and her desire to kill Arya, something he promised her. Why? She's a Frey. Remember her story? Who else in the show do we know who goes through many wives?"

Those some well thought out theories.

The next episode is titled, "No One," so I think we get some closure on the whole Arya/Many Faced God story.

One thing I read was that Arya had actually seen the old woman face that the Waif wore way back in Episode 6 of Season 5.

Ohhhhh good catch whoever that was. That appears to be the same face to me. That either adds credence to some fan theories above or there is still something going on we don't realize. There is no way Arya doesn't recognize the face.

Yet another theory came out that Arya and the Waif actually wore each other's faces and that it was Arya that stabbed the Waif.

Don't think that theory holds water, but it's interesting considering how "not-Arya" Arya was leading up to the confrontation.
