I'm not so sure the Blackfish is dead at this point. I'll need to see a body before I buy it.

yeah I agree it was an episode where they missed a bunch of opportunities to make it great. Probably my least favorite of the season so far. The next two should be great though.
Did anybody else get the vibe that no fight scene with the Waif, no fight scene at the castle, no fight scenes with Blackfish were maybe an attempt to save on logistics and money for the episode? Seems like a ton of stuff (more than usual) happened off camera in this episode.
The constant bitching and moaning about "quality" is getting pretty tiring.
The only cringeworthy moment was Danys entry.
No showing the battle with the Waif was done well imo. The scene lasted a little long anyway and Arya cutting off the candle was a nice conclusion.
Also showing the Waif actually being killed would have invalidated the following scene.
Not showing the Blackfish battle was fine imo. He is a very minor character in the series, there is no reason to show his death against some random Lannister soldiers.

Reading Stout's reviews is like having Mikey taste the life cereal.
If he likes it you know it must be good.
Not showing the battle with the Waif was weak as hell, very anti-climatic and dissatisfying.
But now the tinfoil hats can remain on and crazy theories can still develop.

My guess is that scene and the Blackfish scene (if not for budgetary reasons) was exactly for that. Getting fans to go theory crazy.
I just thought the Arya one bugged me the most. Not because I think anything crazy like it's really the Waif but because we watched this entire arc, her training, the tension built between the two characters and they whiffed it. They didn't show it.
Kind of makes all the build up between the two characters pointless.
I seen the build up more as a way to show the training arya was getting...and that training paid off in the end.
Maybe but they spent a ton of time on the tension and conflict between the two characters only for it to be a swing and a miss at the end. They were probably trying to make the final scene more impactful with the waifs face on the wall.
The problem? It wasn't a shocking scene. I knew it wasn't going to be Arya's face on the wall and I knew she had the advantage in the fight as soon as she cut the candle. It was poorly conceived IMO.
hey,...maybe the waif did in fact kill arya,....then she put her own face back in the hall, swapped clothes with arya, and took her face....so she could go back to westeros and wreak havoc among the remaining starks.........

How could they show it, it was pitch black. The fight with the blackfish should have been shown, unless they are keeping it a secret that he didn't die.
"Showing" doesn't have to be visual. It would have been uber-cool to hear the battle in the dark, the grunts, the surprise, the death rattle, and to see the light come up again on the aftermath. It was extremely unsatisfactory.
Sounds like my sex life, particularly the "unsatisfactory" part.
