NEW YORK—"Game of Thrones” fans who can’t get enough of the struggle among the families competing for control of the Seven Kingdoms will have a new way to enjoy the show’s eight seasons in 4K Utra HD with High Dynamic Range (HDR) beginning in August when HBO Max launches HDR10 and Dolby Vision streams of the series.

The only alternative fans previously had to enjoy the series in 4K HDR was via an Ultra-HD Blu-ray player and the disk set. HBO Max will also make the series available with Dolby Atmos sound.

In a press release(opens in new tab) dated July 21, WarnerMedia, the parent company of HBO Max, announced the decision to begin 4K HDR stream. The company also plans to stream its new series, “House of the Dragon,” in 4K HDR as well as make an augmented reality app(opens in new tab), “House of the Dragon: DracARys,” available in the Apple and Google Play stores.

Now maybe we can see something in those final season nighttime scenes. :Dold

My writing partner went to the Premiere of the new GOT pilot. He said it was solid… but it’s missing a Dinklage type who really shines above the rest and brings something to elevate the story to great. At least in the pilot.

So, the first ever episode I've seen of this series was S8 E5, and then the last.
No idea what was happening, but everyone seemed so angry.

Did I miss much?
.
I just rewatched s8. It’s still great theatre despite some mistakes. It’s probably over-hated when you consider they had to stop adapting the actual story around s6. It was just rushed but ppl when overboard nitpicking a show about dragons and zombies.

Top-3 show all time.

100% the blame is on Martin. He put them it the terrible position by not releasing the next book in the series, so they had to wing it moving forward.

So HBO started production back in 2011 or whenever thinking he’d finish the story by the time they got to season 6/7? I’m not aware of the timeline.

I blame Martin and HBO for it. Martin needs to get off of his lazy butt and finish the series. I give HBO some blame for not replacing Dan and Dave. They're great at adapting but not at original work. We saw that start in S5 and S6 when they ran out of source material. When it became clear that they wanted to move onto their next project HBO should have replaced them over allowing them to cut the episode count (which D&D did) and rush the last seasons.

It's now been 4,940 days since A Dance with Dragons was released. That's been more then enough time to finished the series never mind get only Winds of Winter out. Martin set out to subvert Tolkien. Well he succeeded. Tolkien finished and released LotR.

If I still had HBO I'd watch it all again. I really enjoyed it. A lot of folks hated the ending but I didn't, it wasn't an epic end but I was OK with it.

The last 2 seasons were obviously rushed and not as good as the others for sure.

Martin definitely bears the blame for ruining the legacy of GoT. I think if they had the material to work with it wouldn't have gone to complete ish for half the run. Then again, I blame Weiss and Benioff (sp?) as clueless and lousy writers for the show falling off the cliff because of bad writing. They shot the show and lived in that world for four plus years, and the awful writing, especially in character decisions, that just went on and on, is 100 percent off them. They were good at adapting material but ish at creating the content themselves.

I thought season 6 was the best part of the show. The Sansa/Ramsey storyline, battle of the Basterds, Cersei and the Sept etc... It was prestige tv at its peak IMO.

There was some good stuff in S6 but there was bad in it too. It's really the inflection point season. To me, and I think a lot of the heavy fans, the show peaked in S5 with Hardhome. That was such a good episode. The show started to slide slightly after it. It was very gradual at first before it got to the cliff.

I always find me saying that ironic too. I bag on Dumb and Dumber as much as anyone for their poor writing when they got past the books and that episode was mostly original content. In the books Hardhome takes place off "screen". The watch leaves for it and then we get a report on their return. So as a book reader I found that episode to be really good not only because it was good but also because it gave us something really cool that wasn't shown in the books.

Max has trials all the time. I'd say it's worth the $15 to sub for a month to binge. I enjoyed most on a rewatch but the last season is so anticlimactic that it does feel lacking. I hated the end but was surprised how much I didn't hate it the rewatch. The second to last season was better than I remembered it also. That final season is sort of burned in my head though and I think even stretching it out over the normal 10 episodes instead of 6 could have improved it a good amount.

Hard disagree. Season 6 was ish with some cool battle scenes. With Sansa getting out and then meekly agreeing to go north, becoming the derpty-derp idiot again, it was just godawful.

Great point about Hardhome. Very similar, to me, like how Fellowship actually showed the Boromir fight whereas the book just showed the outcome.

Gah, I had forgotten about them ruining Sansa by switching her to Jeyne Poole's story line and then butchered it.

That's why I blame D&D much more than GRRM. They changed so much from the books that they were stuck with one clear path in the final 2 seasons and didn't know how to draw it out since they screwed up Jayne Poole, Lady Stoneheart, and the mysterious Targaryan across the narrow sea. Those are just 3 big things that come to mind. There's more, obviously.

Have to remember that George was always a TV writer and not an author.
Once he got praise and fame in his chosen profession he was never going to finish the books..the ego stroke and the big payday was all that was important.
Even if he finishes the book some time I will never read them.screw him.

My theory is that, since he's upset the legacy of GoT was ruined, in large part due to himself, they will be finished--and released upon his death.
