Games like these are why the coaching staff gets questioned.

Kind of funny. This roster was heavily criticized by this board due to his old veteran signings, lack of resources in the secondary, questionable OL & also DL, TE being a HUGE question mark, & even the Conner signing was looked at funny.

The only off-season transition that was looked at as “massively improved” was the Hudson trade. That’s it.

Lets not act like this roster was looked at as “massively improved” before the season because it definitely was not.
I thought it was....and it has been.

I'm going to stay away from the histrionics of this board for a few days....or at least I'm going to try. I usually do after a loss.

Yeah this loss sucks, but I expected it. I knew the Rams were going to come in and want this game more.

So, every time this team doesn't have the lead we have to question the coaching staff!?
Heck, many of us question this coaching staff after wins. They just do boneheaded stuff and seem unprepared much of the time.

I think all last night really proved is that were not an elite team, as in better-than-any-team-in-the-last-five-or-ten-years kind of elite.

We might even still be a great team. I don't know; we'll see how they respond to this loss. But in the NFL teams don't win 10 out of 13 games, and go 7-0 on the road all by double digits without at least being very good.

People can type "we suck" or "Kliff sucks" or "Kyler sucks" as much as they want. The fact is, we've shown substantial improvement, on all fronts, vs. last year, and in the end that has to be good enough. That's all you can reasonably ask from any team, or group, or organization, or human being.

Not by me, and some others.

Just because some people were wrong doesn't change the reality.

My problem with Kliffy & staff is I have no understanding or sympathy for their strategy. Honestly, if the final score of the Panther game was EXACTLY the same, but a Run-Run-Pass-Punt game plan was used for the first 3 quarters... I UNDERSTAND the playcalling & have SYMPATHY for an injury-riddled decision.

The same with last night. If the game plan, or halftime adjustment, was to neutralize the First Ballot Hall of Famer eating your Guards' lunch & scheme against the hottest young WR consistently keeping your defense on the field with 3rd-down conversions... even if the result was the same, most of us get it. Kyler is going to have less than MVP moments & D-Hop will drop an occasional reception.

But ignoring your weaknesses & their strengths is something this fan fails to comprehend. Combined with half a dozen face palms & eye-rolls PER GAME (the QB option hasn't worked in the NFL since they moved the hash marks 50 years ago), I see a Barry Switzer type of success.

I was sold on Kliff when we went 2-1 with Colt McCoy. That is something Arians did and I don't know that I appreciated it enough in the moment. His coaching/scheme/gameplan worked with Colt McCoy. IMO, now this starts to migrate to Kyler. No one bails out Brady or Rodgers when they crap the bed. Superstar QBs win games they shouldn't because of the decisions and plays they make in key moments in games. You can argue it isn't fair to put Kyler in a convo with those guys but that is who he has to beat.

In this game, we moved the ball all over the field. Multiple opportunities in Rams territory that were squandered and it wasn't because of the play calls. Kyler controls the offense in key moments. He is the one who executes.

Where I struggle with this board is that people want to talk about Kyler likes he is a top NFL QB but don't want to hold him to that standard on the field.

But, but, K1's stats! :)

Playing big in big moments is something he needs to work on. But if he stays healthy, he's going to get there. He's such a try-hard.

Kind of hilarious how our record managed to improve each year under Kliff but folks still have a lot of doubt about it.
Doesn't mean he is perfect, or can't get better.

It seems like he coaches home and away differently. Something I have noticed over the seasons.

I agree. You can just see his inexperience and he is having to learn at the highest level which is very difficult and unforgiving.

Home record by season:

2019: 2-5-1
2020: 4-4
2021: 3-3, so far

Kind of mediocre at best, especially considering that we tied with Detroit at home one season and lost to them the next season. Thank goodness we play them on the road this year.

We have to win out (at home) to improve our home record for a third straight season...

He alone accounted for 450 yards. But, yes, the picks were killers, but still tough to blame him for the tipped pass. Let’s not forget Hopkins dropping an easy catch inside the 5 that should have resulted in 7 more points for us. Or the beautiful pass to Rondale that he didn’t get his feet down. And his 30 yard run that was called back on a holding penalty. We will NOT be able to regularly beat the big boys on the street until our OL improves.
That “beautiful pass” to Rondale was way too close to the boundary. Better throw and it’s a TD.

Wow. Sub .500 home record over three seasons. Even over the last two. Something is not right when you play significantly differently at home consistently.

Let me help everyone out here, if the Rams had our OL and we had the Rams DL... well, Stafford would have looked like poop no matter what plays McVay ushered out there

It was just a cluster from the get go. Might have been different if Kyler hits Green for that TD but, alas, it didn't happen. After that the wheels just came off and Kyler went helter skelter for most of the rest of the game.

We saw last night what will kill the Cards in the playoffs: turnovers and bad time management at crunch time.

That is extremely weird. I wonder if the Cards sleep at a hotel for home games? I know the Packers do — Rodgers was complaining about it this season. You'd want things to be as consistent as possible across the board.

Knee jerk reactions are almost always wrong.

Prove me wrong.
Except when they aren't.

You approved of the game plan?

Not putting pressure on a QB with a history of bad play when pressured? Poor Offensive calls? Poor offensive games plays called on critical downs?

Questionable Play Calling:

1. Chunk plays were available all game. Why did we insist on throwing behind the line of scrimmage?

2. Ertz owned the middle of the field. We didn't take advantage.

3. Nuk was basically against a decimated secondary. We didn't exploit that.

4. We didn't have hardly any CALLED rollout/bootleg throwing plays. We dropped back and got hurried all gam long.

5. Moore is utilized improperly. You don't pitch the ball to him. You DO line him up in the backfield and have him on go routes lined up vs a LB.

6. The 3rd and 6 call while running it up the gut was asinine.

7. We weren't going to manhandle their D Line, so we shouldn't have run it up the gut as much as we did. Shoot, we probably should have passed it 60 times. Their D Line would have been exhausted.

8. We didn't get much pressure on Stafford. Be creative in utilizing Simmons, Baker, Thompson, Gardeck, Murphy, etc in getting some heat.

9. Cupp is a zone killer. Should have double teamed him and made anyone else beat us.

Hmmm.. I really like number five @jf-08. A lot. Great suggestion!

I agree on one sentiment.

This loss feels like a fork in th road for Kliff. Crash and Burn OR blaze a path that few coaches ever did with this franchise in it's gray history. Next 12 months will tell a lot.
