I don't know what's more ridiculous.. GB and their fans moaning or some
Of our fans moaning about the refs AFTER A WIN. Someone here said they couldn't even enjoy the win because the refs were so bad.

Those are the overtime rules. Deal.

Personally, I'd prefer they just play another half quarter straight up.

It's a compromise the NFL came up with a few years ago. It used to be if a game went into overtime, it was "sudden death". First team to score any kind of points won the game.

The rationale was, defense was just as important as offense and if you couldn't stop another team's offense, you didn't deserve to win.

Well, there was enough complaining about that that they changed the rules. Now, if your defense can just hold them to a field goal your team gets a chance with the ball.

But now that isn't good enough apparently.

Sudden death still privileged offense because you had to score to win. in a regulation game each team is guaranteed to receive the kickoff at the beginning of a half, so I see no reason why each team shouldn't receive a kickoff in OT.

Starting...this week :D

Personally I like the overtime rules because it still requires a team to field a defense to win a game. If we went to college rules in the NFL with the offenses we have now you could realistically see 3-5 OT games regularly.

Pretty sure that is exactly why we do not have the college system in the NFL. Imagine how inflated some player stats would become...

I liked sudden death and still do. This is still somewhat sudden death it just prevents you from scoring a quick FG and winning. Perfectly fine with this rule.

This is the best way to do it. College is too "fair" for my taste. It's football it should be some form of sudden death. IMO this is the best way to do it. If someone kicks a field goal you get a chance, if you cant stop them from scoring a TD well then, sucks to be you. It's professional football. The sentiment that "everyone should get a chance no matter what" just speaks to the entitled "this isn't fair" generation that is taking over the world.

I would say the same thing if it were us. If the Packers had gotten the ball and went down and scored a TD in 3 freaking plays I would be ripping our defense to shreds, not whining about the rules. Cry me a river...

This is all 100% because of bleeding heart Packer fans whining about never getting to see discount double check in OT. "Wahhhh it's not fair!!!"

Stout used to have this as his tagline for years and its time to bring it back:

"Hey fudge packers, go for 2."

I've posted this before but a friend of mine has a pat answer for this when it comes up. They should play the OT first, that way both teams know before regulation ends.

That way the Packers know if we don't go for 2, we lose.

he's joking, but his point is valid, if you don't want to get to a coinflip to decide such an important thing, don't let the game get to that point.

I was listening to NFL radio last night and they made a point I hadn't thought of. They said one of the consideration for not ensuring both teams get a possession is that the NFL did not want to get into a situation where teams defer at the coin flip.

Then it would be much like the college overtime rules. One of the things the NFL considered was will teams go for it on 4th down. The team with the first possession would always be at a disadvantage not knowing ultimately what they would need to do to win the game, while the team that gets the ball 2nd would be able to go for it on 4th if they needed a touchdown to tie.

Under the current regulations you want the ball and you'd like to end it with a touchdown. Conversely the defense knows the one thing they cannot do is allow a touchdown.
