We have one in the head coach... let mac do it...I agree get rid of Marmie.... it's supposed to be an attacking defense......I haven't seen us do it once in two games.....let's play some bump & run coverage and send 5 & 6 people after the QB.....you'll give up some big plays but we already do that with the way we are playing.... maybe we can get some too

You guys have awfully short memories. Remember the scores of games when mac was def coord? 31-3 35-10 stuff like that. He sucks on defense!

The problem is he tries to fit the players into a scheme, rather than fit the scheme around the palyers he has.

If Mac isn't running the defense right now (and I think that he is), then he needs to take control. He's a former DC, he should be in charge of the D, and use Marmie as an assistant. All the other coaches in the league do this, why wouldn't Mac?

Blame Marmie if you want, but Mac has the power to control this. What do you think he's doing at the games? Watching and yelling at refs?

Wow we're agreeing repeatedly today.

The fundamental problems with this team in Mac's tenure have been turnovers, injuries and defense. We thought we fixed the TO problem by changing QB's which so far isn't true, the injuries appear to be out of our control, but the defense is Mac's domain and has consistently stunk.

There is talent on our defense, we're not Tampa Bay but we're not bereft of talent. It's just not executing and ultimately that's Mac.

The possibility of firing an assistant coach during a season is even more remote than making a head coaching change in midstream.

I don't think our problems in the first 2 games are a function of bad scheming by Marmie. Nor am I terribly upset with the way our D-Line or LB's are playing.

I do have a problem with the secondary and also with the team's lack of resiliance (on both sides of the ball) when things go bad early. (Parcells team gave up an early TD on a pick last night. But instead of saying: "Here we go again", those suckers picked it up and eventually won the game. Fassell's team was down 13 at halftime, but managed to come back to tie the game and take it into OT. Those teams didn't lose their poise or tank it).

Our problems in the secondary have everything to do with (a) poor evaluation of talent, (b) lack of talent, (c) denial about fixing the problem, (d) lack of improvement by the DB's we've got and (e) sloppy play on the field.

I am critical of Mac for sheltering his defensive people. With the exception of DB coach and an assistant for Mean Joe, he left his defensive staff intact despite poor production last season.

Prior to the draft, the collective message coming out of the Bird's Nest was: "If we can juice up the "O", it will keep our defense off the field. If we can add a pass rusher, it will take the pressure off our DB's.

I believe that was a faulty assessment. I felt then we were being overly hysterical about our wide receiver situation at the expense of DT, CB and backup QB - and still do.

I'm no big Marmie fan, but I don't believe our current situation is his doing. I am a big Mac (pardon the pun) fan, but feel he and Rod Graves erred in judgement coming into this season.

But does this mean we should automatically fire McGinnis or Graves (now or later)? Not necessarily. Sometimes you're better off giving your people the chance to improve than continuing to send anyone who makes a mistake through a revolving door.

Mac's a smart guy. If he's flexible enough not to be in denial and is willing and able fix what's broke, we might be better with a "new and improved Mac" than we would with still another new head coach.

100% correct. I am certain Mac is acting as Co-DC with Marmie and they are putting the schemes together. Then on gameday it is up to Marmie to call the plays while Mac handles the overall coaching duties. Nothing else would make sense to me.

Marmie won't go until the end of the season. Neither will Mac unless this team completely quits. They haven't yet but one more disaster game like Sunday....

You have to wonder about Mac. Last year he played Plummer every game when McCowen should have been given some playing time. He kept Jones and Pittman as our starters even though Shipp out played them. They moved Kendall to center when they could have a real center playing that position and put Kendall back where he belongs.

I think Mac is too loyal to his veterans and doesn't move quickly enough when the back-up shows that he could be bettar. If he is a good defensive coach than why does our defense always looks so bad? Why in obvious passing situations are we rushing 3 and not 6 or 7?

I am not a very astute when it comes to the ins and outs of football but I am a fan. I go to every game with the hope that this will be bettar than last week but it rarely is. To me this is coaching!!. Maybe Mac is a good coach but has lousy assisstants and do to his loyalty he won't make any changes. Or just maybe he has good assisstances but he is lousy head coach.

I know that I am not smart enough to make that distinction but if we continue to lose we will be looking at a new head coach next year. And that will bring another losing season because he will need time to "turn it around".

I also wish that I could type bettar and that the board had "Spell Check"

The OC has only been in charge for 2 games and he has 6 starters he's working with who were not with the team last season.

The Defensive guys have been around for years, Mac since 1996.

I realize all of this... I should have put a "smiley" at the end of my post...
