This is quite a thread. What is the record for number of pages on a "non-sticky" thread?

I lived in the Bay Area for a long time and was there during the TMC era where I became a huge Don Nelson fan. His personal story this season of coming back from one of lowest points in his career to one of the highest sounds more like a made for TV movie than real life.

Congratulations Don

The best part of this is near as I can tell Oakland did not go up in a ball of flames last night after the win!

What a shocker.

Dallas is going to win this game in a blowout.

Oops.

:notworthy

Who was the last MVP to crap the bed and go 1-11 in a first-round elimination game?

Biedrens looks like he'd be a gay porno actor.

Yep, and yep.

anyone know what the odds on this game were before the series started?

9-1. Pretty damn good money too.

Okay, serious question: If Dirk got the MVP, and everyone seems to think he did, when (where) will they present it?

After R1. They will probably hold a press conference. The flack that he gets duing that PC will be pay-per-view material.

Hard to believe Cuban meant this (from the AP write-up)

"This is not like last year was," Cuban said. "Losing the finals was really painful. This is just the first round."

I don't seem to recall him being all misty last year.

HAhahahaha check out this post by the poster named Baron Davis Beard posted before tipoff on the game 6 topic at mavtalk.com LOL:

"The Oracle Arena. This is where we fight! This is where you die. Warriors and their fans will remember this day, for it will be ours for all time.

You have many good basketball players, Coach Johnson, but few warriors. It will not be long before they fear the beard more than your whistle and angst. Tonight, the world will know that and 8th seed stood against a 1 seed...that few stood against many, and before this series is over, that even and MVP can fail in the first round. Mavericks, ready your meal and eat hearty...for tonight, you play ball in hell. You will be given nothing, but we will take from you everything.

WARRIORS....PREPARE FOR GLORY!!!!!"

:biglaugh:

That was great!!

The really cool thing is that Baron and Barnes are playing so well that I'm hearing talk that it's helping UCLA in recruiting now. Out of state kids are telling Howland they're interested in UCLA because of this series.

not to the extent Jordan still helps UNC recruit of course but it's been a long time since UCLA had anybody in the NBA getting that type of hype to help the current team.

I don't think anyone really cares about Davis and Barnes coming out of UCLA.

Right now UCLA doesn't seem to produce NBA talents, rather wastes possible talents like MBah Moute.

I'm sure that's why Kevin Love, the number 1 recruit in the country is going there.

UCLA has been to the Final 4 the laast two years - hard to say they're "wasting" anything right now.

I also don't think Kevin Love's decision had anything to do with Matt Barnes and Baron Davis, two Lavin guys who were long gone before Ben Howland was even hired at UCLA. I think Russ or whoever he heard this from is being a little homeristic.

And to suggest Howland is wasting Mbah Moute's talent is laughable at best. Prince is a skinny 6'7 power forward who can't shoot yet was the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and Honorable Mention All Pac-10 in his sophomore campaign. Yeah, that guy sucks.

Just paraphrase it with some minor changes. No such thing as plagiarism on the message boards -- if you read more than one board you can see the same idea posted a dozen different times by a dozen different posters every day. Toss in a few four-letter words and it's all yours. :)

Good grief, people sure are piling onto the Warriors bandwagon. They just aren't good. They got an insecure Mavericks team to cough up Game 1 at home, then rode a manic crowd and unreal shooting to three home-court wins. There's only so far adrenalin and luck can take you.

Jazz in 5.

"Good grief"...lol.

They just beat the Mavericks...they are good and I think if you count them out, you'll just be doing what everyone else did last series.

If you think it was luck that they beat the Mavs, that's crazy :) They destroyed them a few times. Luck would be a last second shot or two to win a couple of games.

You do realize the only other D1 school offering Luc was Florida Atlantic or someone similar? Luc was rated 3 stars out of HS, he didn't play AAU ball or any of the big camps, he was a complete unknown. As for wasting his talents, do you really think Ben's offense is the reason Luc spent the year hobbled with tendonitis in both knees and is looking at possible offseason surgery?

Howland says Luc may play 3 next year, I'd be quite surprised if he does he simply can't shoot well enough to do that, and that has absolutely nothing to do with UCLA's system, he's a PF in a SF's body.

Ask Phil Jackson what he thinks about the quality of development going on at UCLA he can't stop talking about how well prepared Farmar was in just 2 years.

The point was UCLA is now getting contacted by national recruits who are telling them it's because they saw the Warriors on tv and they were intrigued by Barnes and Baron going to UCLA. Obviously it makes little sense, both played for Lavin not Howland, but kids are kids and anything that gets a kid from another state to consider UCLA is a good sign IMHO.

"Trey" Thompkins (sp?) is a PF from Atlanta now playing for Oak Hill. Him and another Atlanta kid are suddenly listing UCLA and both supposedly told UCLA they were interested because they'd watched the Warriors strong finish and early play in the postseason and really liked Barnes and Davis.

I admit it makes no sense, Ben didn't coach either guy, Ben plays a completely different style than what Nellie plays, but when 2 top 15 national kids from Georgia suddenly list UCLA I pay attention to what they said.
