Could very well be more.

Could be:
Scott Player
James Hodgins - Could be cut before camp
One more player (SEE EDIT) - MJ says there is more to this player than meets the eye, so he will not state their name.

EDIT: The other player is Ray Thompson:
Ray Thompson is also on the bubble per MJ - he also says there is more than meets the eye in his situation however. That is more of a wait and see situation compared to a player like Hodgins.
Green called Ray this morning - They had a long discussion.
Ray practiced this morning.
Green wants to make sure Ray WANTS to be a Card.

They could be released soon or at training camp

Justin Lucas surprises me a little - I always though he made plays when given the chance - oh well. Everyone else there was garbage and now we can all finally stop talking about a third string QB who will probably never be picked up by another team again.

So how much money does this free up for the Cards to make a run at Kurt Warner?

With that many cuts, Green is certainly planning to make some moves in adding players.

The biggest surprise to me is that both Bell and Tanner are cut. That makes us pretty light at the DT spot for practice.

Marcus Bell knew he was in trouble. He even told MJ that Deek did not really seem to care for him at all.

Weren't both Tanner and Bell run stuffers?

Fred Wakefield will now make the team as a situational DT

More like food stuffers.

:D

Tanner was a plugger, Bell was supposedly a quicker guy. Sad thing is, these guys were at times our best DTs. Not that that is saying much.

Yeah, the Tanner and Bell moves kind of surprises me if it comes to fruition. That leaves us with no big plugger DT, unless someone escapes me. Any good DT going to be available.

Yeah, I guess he can bat down passes maybe. But, he's too light and plays too high to be a good DT. If I'm an OC and see Wakefield at DT, I run a draw, I don't care what the yardage is.

Anyone want to speculate on how much the Cards will save?

I say $2.9M.

Discuss.

Justin Lucas-very surprised
Marcus Bell-surprised
Preston Parsons-not surprised
Barron Tanner-mildly surprised
Steve Bush-not surprised

EDIT: I had my safetys mixed up, so I changed Lucas from "not surprised" to "very surprised." I was thinking Lucas was Stone for some reason.

Arrgh!! The Preston Parsons dream is over!!!!!

Somewhere, Walter Michell is weeping.

Is there any reason that we're cutting these guys now? It's not like we're "saving" all that much more than we would have if we'd cut them on Friday, or in the middle of training camp.

With Bell and Tanner leaving, it looks like Wendell Bryant just got himself a starting job at the NT.

My guess is that Denny is cutting them now so they have a chance to try and hook on elsewhere in time for that team's camp?

*sigh*

I really thought he was something special. He seemed to have 'it'.

IMO Denny must have some players in mind that he is after that is why he made the move now as it frees up some cap space and gets us under the roster limit.

The kid is not going to be signed by anyone in the NFL. Watch. Hope he saved some money.

Does the cutting of Justin Lucas mean that Stone has shown the new coaching staff that he can be for real? I thought Stone would get the axe with Lucas staying, perhaps Stone just outplayed Lucas. I don't know. As far as Bell, this doesn't surprise me. He was a scrub. Parsons, he got beat out by the all time leading passer for MI. Tannor is a bit surprising, I thought he was at least a decent Backup. Bush is a bit out of left field, but he wasn't a great player either. I thought he would stick due to his ability to play HB as well.

Perhaps the cards will make a push for DT D. Gardner???

These guys will have more time to find a new team. Coach Green said in his post practice interview that he thinks that all of those guys can play in the league and will most likely catch on with other teams.

The reason for some of these moves is that he is very high on some of the younger players. Green singled out Lorenzo Diamond. Green likes his speed and says that he can be the backup to Freddie Jones.

I think he could play it too sizewise if he puts some weight on his disproportionate upper body. If you look at pictures of him, he is noticeably smaller through his arms and chest as compared to the rest of his body.

Salries gone BTW
Parsons - 380
Bell - 628
Tanner - 675
Lucas - 535
Bush - 660

=$2.8 million in salary saved. I have no idea about cap hits from signing bonuses though.
