Thats good and all but to have 2 quick 295 pounds DT in passing situation is good but when teams runs at us, thats the part that worries me the most IMO.

This concerned me too, but I got a chance to see a old Vikings game last week on the NFL Network and was rather impressed with this type of defense. The push by the D-line pretty much eliminated any gap runs by the RB's. Most of the opponents rushes were end runs and they were rather quickly swarmed upon by the LB's. I have to admit I was pretty excited seeing this, knowing this will be employed here. OTOH, this was during their 16-2 season, and they got lit up quite a bit in their pass defense. This would be my area of concern.

Personally, I'm surprised we cut anybody. We weren't over the cap, and none of the guys are exactly high dollar players.

I'm not sure why we would get rid of Scott Player, single bar helmit not withstanding. He's been a solid kicker for the last 3 or 4 years. Yes, he's muffed a few, but I'll wager he muffs far less then 90% of the other kickers in the league. To me, that is the kind of success ratio you want from all players on your team, regardless of position.

I can't count the number of times I've laughed at the Cowboys and Redskins for giving up a game due to poor kickers. I would hate to see us enter that venue as well.

He makes a lot of money for a Punter.....close to a $Mil I think. If this guy Ryan Downs has a leg, Scott is gone.

Cardinals release five players

By Darren Urban, Tribune

In a somewhat surprising move, the Cardinals cut five players Tuesday, including one-time starting defensive tackles Marcus Bell and Barron Tanner. Also getting released were tight end Steve Bush, third-string quarterback Preston Parsons and reserve safety Justin Lucas.

“June first in the National Football League normally means a roster adjustment, and that’s what we had,” coach Dennis Green said. “I think we’ll have some of the younger players take some of those roles. We are very determined to develop players.”

NFL teams could begin cutting players Tuesday in order to spread the resulting salary cap hit over two years, but Arizona’s moves had nothing to do with saving room.

Green named Lorenzo Diamond, an undrafted free agent from 2003, as the new backup tight end to Freddie Jones. Dropping Bell and Tanner, both of whom had become backups, clears out a logjam at tackle and opens up opportunities for second-year man Kenny King and 2004 third-round draft pick Darnell Dockett.

Parsons’ release signals the committment of Green to John Navarre, a seventh-round pick this season. Navarre will be the third on the depth chart behind Josh McCown and Shaun King.

“This is when the business decisions are made,” Jones said. “We brought (Green) here to make a winner, and every decision he’s made is to help us get in that position. As a player we have to trust everything he does is to get us to that next level.”

Arrgh!!

With Bell and Tanner leaving, it looks like Wendell Bryant just got himself a starting job at the NT.

That's my take too. I liked Bell but I seem to recall someone saying he was overweight in minicamp and might get cut?

Bryant is the only guy of the "under tackles" who has the bulk to play the other position.

Unless of course we're making room for some trade or pickup but I doubt it.

Maybe Pollard thinks the best spot for Bryant is there and he's going to let King and Dockett play the under?

Right now I am not sure. Wendell looked OK before he got hurt last year, he's talented enough to do that job, but he wasn't drafted to be a run stuffer and we have no other run stuffer on the roster that I'm aware of.

I liked Lucas too, made some plays. No big stunner here designed to get people's attention, I guess Blake did that already.

I liked Lucas good backup and good Special Teamer. With DG cutting Lucas I don't think they will be moving Wilson to CB unless Stone miraculously became a good CB???

Player doesnt make close to 1 mill.

Base salary is 600,000, and his bonus is only 150,000 a year, with one more year left on his contract. That is about average for a vet punter.

Perhaps the cards will make a push for DT D. Gardner???

HOpe not, he has talent but he has a bad back and the deal with Denver last year probably has him on the outs with most NFL teams. Shanahan probably took it too far with him but they spent a ton of money to sign him, he injures himself in a stupid fight, and then keeps missing workouts and meetings and basically disassociates himself from the whole team.

But if healthy he could certainly help and Denny does have a history of taking guys other teams don't want.

I think DG is a Bengal...

Bengals | Gardener Signing Would Mean Cap Moves - from www.KFFL.com
Tue, 1 Jun 2004 09:18:28 -0700

Kevin Goheen, of the Cincinnati Post, reports the Cincinnati Bengals will have some salary cap shuffling to do if they sign DT Daryl Gardener, who will be released by the Denver Broncos after June 1. The Bengals and Gardener agreed to a four-year, $9.3 million deal back in April, but the deal cannot become official until after June 1. Cincinnati has more than $5 million in salary cap space available but that doesn't include the $4 million they have allocated to sign their 11 draft choices.

ESPN says they expect David Terrell and Kenyetta Walker (high draft choices from the 2001 season) to be released soon

Good luck Marvin, if you get the Gardener from Washington you lucked out, if you get the one from denver you made a big mistake.

All of a sudden the Dockett pick is looming large. Bryant must be showing Deek something to have made these moves. There is no pending FA and or possible June 1st cut at DT that I am aware of that is any better than Bell. McKenzie is the only CB worth considering unless you think Law has more than one-two years left (which IMHO he doesn't). Trotter at the MLB position might be more attractive now.....he's a solid run defender and has good size at 6'2" and 260lbs.

These moves are telling us something........just can't put my finger on it yet.

Didn't Marvin make the Gardener in Washington (As his DC)?

I wouldn't mind if we take a look at Walker. He is still young and talented, the only negative about the guy is he holds a lot and has a lot of false starts.

I just can't believe cutting Bell and Tanner and keeping Davis. I think those cuts are more surprising not because of who they were, but who they left still on the roster.

AZCB34 tipped me off on Terrell awhile ago, said he was saying all the right things but in minicamp he still wasn't impressing anybody and might get cut.

Still has talent but apparently he's just too immature, he's had the same weaknesses for years and figured he could blame it all on the previous OC. Supposedly he's also lost quite a bit of speed with all the foot problems and he hasn't adjusted to not being as fast as he was coming out of college.

Never liked Walker much.

Walker would be nice to look at as a possibility of playing RG and RT backup.

We are super thin at DT right now. Somebody has to be brought in. It will be "the same old same old" if we go into the season with one vet DT, and 3 guys who haven't proven dittly...smells like the WR position last year.

I have faith that they'll bring someone else in. At least as of now.

Maybe thats a good thing seeing as how WR was clearly the best position on the team last year.

Bell and Tanner weren't the answer....although I thought Bell had "potential".

This puts the middle on Bryant's shoulder.

Is he a legit first round draft choice or a bust?

Stay tuned.

maybe. I'm surprised they cut Bell and kept Davis. Davis has been a let down since the Bears drafted him.

According to MJ the Cards will be pursuing DL help and CB help....
hopefully we can get a playmaker at one(or both) of those positions...
Good luck. Those are some of the hardest positions to fill. Every team will be looking for help in those areas.
