I think he could play it too sizewise if he puts some weight on his disproportionate upper body. If you look at pictures of him, he is noticeably smaller through his arms and chest as compared to the rest of his body.

Salries gone BTW
Parsons - 380
Bell - 628
Tanner - 675
Lucas - 535
Bush - 660

=$2.8 million in salary saved. I have no idea about cap hits from signing bonuses though.

Yeah, the salaries are gone, but there was no reason not to bring them in to camp, if you ask me. I'm certain that all their accelerated signing bonuses were negligible.

I'm with S11 in saying that cutting Bell might have been a bad idea. Now we just don't have a legitimately-sized 2-Gap DT. Maybe Bryant can put on the size, maybe not, but now we're without an option if the answer is "not".

With Bell and Tanner leaving, it looks like Wendell Bryant just got himself a starting job at the NT.

:wtf: Bryant was a complete waste of a pick. I now feel worse about the DLine.

I'm still baffled over here. Why exactly were any of these cuts necessary? Who's out there that commands a salary commensurate with these cuts? We weren't over the cap, so they are probably targeting somebody. If it's Rich Gannon I'm gonna puke.

Why did they get rid of two run stuffers??
Bryant can't anchor in there, I mean that's a joke right?

I'm not surprised in any of the cuts except Bell. I taught for sure Deke will coach this guy up and be a solid starter

I'm too sick to look up the cap hit from the signing bonus, so just in base salaries, the cuts save...

Bell - $628,000
Bush - $660,000 ($665,000 in '05)
Lucas - $535,000
Parsons - $380,000
Tanner - $675,000

There is one very legitimate reason for cutting players now. If you believe that someone is not going to be able to contribute significantly to your team; and /or that person is not giving the effort, responding to coaching that you wish to see; cut them before the next eleven practice sessions (over the next two weeks) in order for the guys that are kept to have more repetitions during the practice sessions.

Why spend time and energy on wasted efforts? The idea of carrying someone for "camp fodder" is wasted resources. If they aren't going to be beneficial to your team long term then they are not worth keeping around!

A new coach means changes, and frankly, I am surprised that some bigger names havent been released.

Tanner and Bell were marginal starters on the most non descript starting D line in the league.

All of these players had no or marginal signing bonuses, that are even worth talking about. So these cuts had nothing to do with money or saving on a cap hit, but everything to do with getting these guys out before the upcoming organized team workouts.

Plus we do not save 2.8 million by cutting these guys. Every single one of these guys salaries were in the top 51 salaries. Since only the top 51 salaries
count right now becuase of the rule of 51. So once these guys are cut 5 new salaries will take there place. Those guys taking there salary spots will have a contract at about $500,000 give or take.

So give or take a few 100 thousand we are only really saving about $500,000.

I was a big fan of Bell and Lucas. Those moves kind of surprise me seeing as they weren't exactly commanding a big salary. Both of those guys will land on another team.

So what does our depth chart at safety look like now?

Bell and Tanner. Some of you speak like you are afraid of change. We won 4 games last year with these guys. We were rated low against the run last year and stopped nobody. We needed to let these guys go, tells the rest we are not looking for camp fodder.

Todays moves tells me the coaches are doing thier homework. They are evaluating, watching films, looking at options, prepairing for a winning team. I liked Lucas , I hope they all do well, but we need to improve and none of them got us there. We don't need a tight end that playes FB. I liked Bell, he might do well out there we are looking for speed and he has none.

We are not finished yet..Only thing is sure is that we want to win and play no favorites

The way it looks to me is Green wants an attacking defense. He just got rid of his two gap run pluggers and it appears he is going to use Darnell Dockett,Kenny King and Wendell Bryant to rush up the middle in a one gap style of attack. Also bringing in Berry and Karlos Dansby to go along with Ray Thompson should give us a pretty strong pass rush. If guys like Dennis Johnson, Calvin Pace and KVB can stay healthy and take their games up a knotch the Cardinals just might put a little fear into some opposing offenses this year.

Thats good and all but to have 2 quick 295 pounds DT in passing situation is good but when teams runs at us, thats the part that worries me the most IMO.

Kolodziej is 295lbs.
Bryant is 308lbs.
Davis is 314lbs

According to MJ the Cards will be pursuing DL help and CB help....
hopefully we can get a playmaker at one(or both) of those positions...

Personally, I'm surprised we cut anybody. We weren't over the cap, and none of the guys are exactly high dollar players.

I'm not sure why we would get rid of Scott Player, single bar helmit not withstanding. He's been a solid kicker for the last 3 or 4 years. Yes, he's muffed a few, but I'll wager he muffs far less then 90% of the other kickers in the league. To me, that is the kind of success ratio you want from all players on your team, regardless of position.

I can't count the number of times I've laughed at the Cowboys and Redskins for giving up a game due to poor kickers. I would hate to see us enter that venue as well.

All those moves caught me flatfooted.

Well...maybe not Tanner. But even there, I figured he and the others wouldn't get cut unless they were to make room for immediate better replacements.

Depthwise it leaves us in horrible shape at NT (Russell Davis is the only survivor) and we'll have to hope that a backup safety like Mayes can step up and replace Lucas.

I've got to believe that Rod and Denny have moves in mind. Otherwise why jump the gun and cut "folks who can play in this league" before you have to?

Player seems to be on the decline. His hangtime wasn't good last year at all. He can't consistently pinned the other team deep in their territory.

I don't know Jeff for a guy his size, Davis is getting blown up in the running game.
