Lookout Gonzo, Quentin already has as many home runs as you had in the entire first half.

Now he has twice as many.

Good job last night though.

You must admit that Gonzo has looked great during the homestand. At least at the plate. He will never be a gold glove in the outfield but can provide leadership.

I don't think they will trade him. Green is more likely to go especially since Quentin is a right fielder.

Wow... you guys are slaying me...

Kidnap children? Throwing batteries and quarters?? There is a reason why the greatest rivlary in MLB is the Yankee-Red Sox rivalry, and much of has to do with the fans themselves...

As for A-Rod - how in the world can you compare A-Rod to Gonzo?? A-Rod has been with the Yankees for 2 seasons?

I'm done with you guys... Tried to offer some objective input, instead you validated the Phoenix fan stereotype... Nice job....

:biglaugh:

Guys don't even sweat this jacka$$. The one time we played his team and it's bloated payroll for anything that mattered we absolutly dominated and if not for the historical failure of our other wise reliable closer it wouldn't have even be close. You were outplayed, outpitched and out smarted by a four year old franchise. And since that one series defeat, we ended a dynasty and allowed your crazy owner to go away from what got him those four titles in five years and have been unable to regain the crown since. Essentially we ended your dynasty. Theres even a book written about it by Buster Olney.

So get your bitter, east coast influenced, New Yorker supremecy feeling view points out of here. Phoenix fan sterotypes? I'll go head to head against any so called informed NY fan about baseball knowledge any day of the week. I can't stand that ignorant view point that i dont understand baseball any better because my favorite baseball team has only been around less than a decade. It's not like i was introduced to the sport in 1998.

Get over yourself......;)

Guys..... please enough the personal attacks... feel free to take it to private messenging... otherwise... if you continue to spew this nonsense on this thread, that you will be dealt with accordingly... So consider yourselves warn....

Anyways.... Im mixed on this Gonzo situation.... I initially became a fan of his when the Tigers signed him before the start of the '99 season and was saddened when the he was subsequently dealt for Karim "Latino Bambino" Garcia later that year.... The Tigers felt he was a major defensive liability and would just platoon him since they felt he didnt possess enough offensive clout to become their every day DH either... Obviously... he went on to prove them wrong and since I've become a full-fleged Dback faithful...I've really been enamored with his play on the field for the most part... True.. he's not the imposing hitter as he was and obviously cannot throw (since his surgery that immediately ended his '04 season), but he's still "Mr. Diamondback" to me.....

However.. I do resent his lapse in judgment of calling-out Dbacks management when he was benched in favor of phenom Carlos Quentin... Quentin is going thru such a difficult transition it is.. and in no way should have Gonzo resorted to that type of misconduct... He should have handled it with class and helped ease Quentin in..... It just seems that Gonzo is more focused on indivdidual accomplishments at the moment and not willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of the team and that's utterly unfortunate since it will detract away from the greatness he's attained in the Dbacks uniform... At least though this has injected some life back into him and he's going after everything with such wreckless abandonment... But.. he should have done that in the first place opposed to lambasting management and perhaps making Quentin feel somewhat uncomfortable....

Ideally now.. the best case scenario would be for Gonzo to re-structure his contract so he could be traded and finally create a spot for Quentin to play.. Otherwise... I hope Green is dealt since it appears Melvin intends for Quentin to be the future every day RF... It should be intriguing to see what happens between now and the trading deadline... that will ultimately dictate what the direction the Dbacks are headed, but with Melvin's contract being extended.. that most likely signifies still a more veteran oriented team, but it's refreshing to notice that Josh Byrnes will make sure the inflex of youth will be prominent.....

Understood.

But if you knew the attitude i deal with - that nothing is played well west of the Mississippi - being a transplant here in South FLorida on a day to day basis, you would understand my short fuse. :bang:

But i will abide by the rules.

Well.... I'm the opposite (transplanted from the Detroit suburbs to Phoenix in May of '02) and I understand about the East Coast bias (mainly manifested from ESPN), and I know how several are very passionate/loyal about the teams they support/root/follow, however, that doesnt justify personal/derogatory attracks or using profanity...

Aside from that.. this is an excellent thread because it deals with a player that at the crossroads of a rather glorious career.....I forgot to mention in my last post that it might serve him well if he does return back to American League since that would effectively extend his career since he obviously can become a regular DH'er and would albeit solidify his bid for the HOF.... I contend that him hitting the 2500 hit plateau will ensure him a spot in Cooperstown since many in his class probably wont be at 3000... Plus...if he ends-up with 350+ HRs and continues to climb the all-time list of career doubles..along with a World Series ring really helps his cause immensely.....
He will be the first Dback (unless RJ retires and becomes eligible before him) inducted adorning their uniform.......

Regardless.. the Dbacks must play Quentin on a regular basis, so if it costs either him or Green playing time.. then so be it... The future is now regardless.. Plus Quentin seems to be a fully capable power hitter, which is obviously an element the Dbacks lack....

^I don't think Gonzo makes it to the hall. RJ is our only HOF to date, except Schilling who will probably go in as a BoSock since he ended the curse. Gonzo is the type of guy that will just miss the cut I think. Even in his prime (which was relatively short, he peaked late, and went downhill fast since 04) he was usually only the 3rd or 4th best out fielder in the league.

Perhaps Gonzo "misses the cut" based on previous HOF standards/bench-marks, but not too many active players are approaching those type of stats/milestones (well.. some are with the benefit of banned substances) that guaranteed a player to be enshrined in the hall.....

Not too many are poised for 3000 hits or most of the players that will be eligible at the time when Gonzo makes his first appearance on the ballot probably wont have as many achievements as him.. or have won a WS ring.. and if he's traded or signs with the Yankees or any team that has a legit shot of winning another WS for him.. that will further help stake his claim.......
