Alexander was already working the Long Beach Poly kids.

Still don't know how this staff will recruit, but they're aggressive and relentless. Probably will gain some traction in some places and turn others off. They are completely the opposite of Erickson's staff, who liked to do the soft sell and honored a kid's commitment (i.e. they stopped pursuing them).

Sounds to me like he's going to be our new recruiting coordinator. He has a lot of California connections, from what I've read about him.

It seems to be almost a foregone conclusion that Keith Patterson will be joining Graham at ASU after he coaches Pitt in the Compass Bowl. Peterson had previously lobbied for the Pitt HC job, but a Graham holdover had about as much of a chance of getting the job as I did.

Now that Paul Chryst has formally been named HC at Pitt, my speculation is January 9, Patterson will be on a plane to Tempe and formally named part of the staff.

Wrong ASU.

ASU coach Todd Graham has named Paul Randolph senior associate head coach. Randolph spent last season at Pitt as co-DC & DL coach.

Graham wanted Patterson to join, but Patterson wanted to join the Malzahn coaching tree, even if it meant much less money and prestige. It also means Patterson will have more liberty to form his own schemes. Personally, I think Malzahn is overrated, but there's something to be said about freedom to do what you believe each morning when you go to work. I think Patterson is thinking he'll be the DC at an SEC school in 3 years or less.

ASU hires Larry Porter to the football coaching staff. I'm not sure where Graham is putting these assistant coaches but it sounds like a good hire. The guess by Doug Haller is he will coach running backs. Anyone know more? See azcentral and twitter links below.

He coached the LSU running backs while also holding two key roles on staff assistant head coach and chief recruiter.

Porter was elevated to the position of assistant head coach during the spring of 2006. He was twice (2007 and 2009) named as the National Recruiter of the Year by Rivals.com.

Porter coached 8 years under Les Miles, and he has deep recruiting roots in Texas. While at LSU, he recruited several 5 star prospects, and countless other 4 star recruits. Sources indicate he will be the RB coach for ASU, but the majority of his duties will revolve around recruiting.

Also: Deantre Lewis was medically cleared today to continue practicing.

I'm thrilled about Porter. He's an outstanding recruiter.
