This will sound bad but here goes…

Do we really care if Bourguet transfers? I suppose if we are certain Pyne hits the portal it might matter but let’s not forget Pyne has used his freebie transfer, would have to sit out a year and the NCAA is taking a hard line on waiving the transfer rules.

I was talking about Rashada. Sorry, should have specified. The implication I took from Mainstreet's post was that if we don't play Rashada, there is a risk he will transfer or be lured away by NIL.

Bourget is a senior, so not sure how he would transfer

Got it.

In this new world order, I think EVERY player is a transfer risk and I’m not sure you can make decisions based on whether a guy will transfer or not when your job as a coach is basically on the line every single season. You play the best guys you think can help you win and hope for the best.

This is exactly why the coaches HATE the transfer portal. I think the only time you should get a freebie transfer is if the HC loses his job. If that happens it is an open door for a specified period of time any other transfer is subject to sitting out a year, no exceptions…not even if mama is sick. We bitch about how coddled that generation is and then we coddle them. This is the perfect time to teach them that decisions have, sometimes, unexpected and even expected consequences.

Old man rant over for now

Bourguet would still have his senior year of eligibility ( I think he could sit out this year and maintain that senior year in the bank) and then a graduate year so there is some wiggle room if he wants it.

Reality check: Bourguet isn’t going to the NFL so if football is his future he needs to look to coaching and it seems to me that staying at ASU and apprenticing on this staff would be a wise move

This was my intention. All things being equal, I think you start the freshmen, Rashada.

Boy, Pyne picked a bad time to get injured. Will need some special breaks his way for him to work himself back into the equation. if the offense does horribly against Oklahoma State, that may be an opportunity, but that remains to be seem. Lots of solid playmakers, just need a point guard to get them the ball.

I am also worried about the linemen protecting our PG. I read somewhere that Leif Fautanu is hurt, too.

Wow. Not completely surprised by this news but still…wow.

A good opponent to cut your teeth on. The only way he doesn’t start against Oklahoma State is if he is injured.

Sounds like Payne would have started under normal circumstances, but Rashada was better at taking shots down the field than TB.

Let's see what the kid can do!

There it is, all things being equal. It makes sense to start Rashada the freshman. It's the time we live in. The future has to be a part of the calculation.

Dillingham leaves himself some wiggle room going forward.

I'm thinking it is likely we will see both Rashada and Bourguet against Southern Utah.

I think it goes without saying that Bourguet should get game time against Southern Utah. Even this unknown ASU team should truck them. If the choice for game 1 is Rashada, then you go with that into weeks 2 and beyond. I will be disappointed if Dilly starts doing some silly trade off starters thing game to game.

You’ve made the choice so go with it

I think you start Rashada until proven otherwise. Before NIL and the transfer portal, I would have probably started Bourguet.

I don’t believe NIL has anything to do with this decision. I think Dilly believes Rashada gives them the best chance to win games.

Personally, I am not quick to make a switch even if/when Rashada struggles. I want to see what he is made of when adversity and long term adversity strikes.

Interesting that free youtuber Richie Bradshaw and Mainstreet predicted this, though the guys on some of those paysites were predicting otherwise.

If you believe everything that Dillingham has been saying all Summer, this was a football decision not a NIL/portal factor based decision. He's all about who can win now and it will be interesting to hear him explain his thought process on that. Will give some good insights on what has been happening at practice and what he has seen on film on our QB group.

It's exciting times ahead. Dillingham almost had to go with the extremely talented freshman quarterback he recruited.

He can build the team Rashada and the Sun Devils are loaded with quality receivers. Plus he can run the ball if necessary.

I'm happy to have Bourguet on board because he can do a lot of the same things. If experience and leadership is needed, he is there.

Yep. And if Rashada gets knocked out with a blindside hit, we have a VERY solid backup to come off the bench.

It was Pyne’s job before the injury. That means I would assume he is first off the bench if Rashada gets hurt or is completely and utterly ineffective. I don’t think it is likely he falls into the ineffective category far enough to warrant a benching
