Yeah, no matter how it works out, the Sun Devils are unlikely to be able to keep all their current quarterbacks with the transfer portal and NIL. Down the road, I don't think they will be able to keep both Pyne and Rashada. I'm hoping Bourguet hangs around if they go a different direction.
I think this would be Pyne’s last year of eligibility?

Bourguet appears to be a Devil for life no matter how things play out but maybe I am misreading that. You would hope Rashada takes the job next year no matter what and if he doesn’t…

I understand Pyne has three remaining years of eligibility.

Without looking it up, I think you are right, redshirt sophomore. Isn't TB the one with only one year left?

I see TB joining the coaching staff after graduation. I noticed that Dillingham has let him call some plays for the other qbs during practice. His goal is to be a coach and Dillingham is going to help him get his start.

Yes, Bourguet has one year of eligibility left. Even if he doesn't start for ASU I'd like to keep him in the program.

Suprisingly, I found a free article from rivals, even has the scrimmage stats from yesterday in the QB battle...

And here is another one the QB battle, its all the rage of the internet!

I go back and forth myself, some days I say start TB, others I want Rashada to start. Wish the season would start already

Xavion Alford is making his voice heard with the NCAA.

To be fair, the NCAA is simply enforcing a known transfer rule with the recent change in the transfer portal. I’m no NCAA apologist but they get beat down if they don’t enforce the rules and when they do…they get beat down. And what everyone always ignores is these rules are created with cooperation from the member schools who are being held to the very rules.

Also, don’t forget that coaches generally HATE the transfer portal because it makes it harder for them to horde players and keep their programs together so they applaud when the NCAA enforced a rule like this. They will never say so publicly but behind the scenes they love this

Having said all that, Alford isn’t wrong

Some make an argument, Trenton Bourguet should be the starter.

Fair article. I would say that Bourguet is what I would consider to be the safe pick to start. He has limitations but he seems to play within those limitations.

I generally don’t like freshman QBs starting but have stated that if Rashada is the best chance to win games and go bowling then go for it. There is a tiny part of me thinking he should start against Southern Utah and OSU. And see how he does. Unfortunately, I am not sure that is conducive to winning games necessarily.

Based on camp reports, it does seem like Pyne was leader in the clubhouse and it’s disappointing he got hurt

OK, that's interesting. You have to turn the volume way up to hear it, but the context of Dillingham's "all options are on the table" remark on the QB battle was a question on whether he would consider playing 2 quarterbacks. He also talks about "starters" in general not being the players who take the field for the first series, but who is in the game when it counts. Sounds like we will have no clue what is going on in advance of So. Utah, lol

In all seriousness, it should only really matter for Week 2 against Oklahoma State. By that time, there better be a single guy who is the man and leading this team.

Given the conference realignment stuff that has occurred, I maintain that game against Oklahoma State has taken on a much different meaning than we thought a year ago.

With no inside information or access to pay articles, I'm thinking ASU should probably start Rashada and bring Bourguet off the bench.

In a perfect world I'd start Bouguet, but we know about NIL and the transfer portal.

I don't know, I am back and forth. Neither is standing out it seems. I don't expect him to transfer if he doesn't start. Seems like a good patient and humble kid who is here long term.

This will sound bad but here goes…

Do we really care if Bourguet transfers? I suppose if we are certain Pyne hits the portal it might matter but let’s not forget Pyne has used his freebie transfer, would have to sit out a year and the NCAA is taking a hard line on waiving the transfer rules.

It does sound bad, but you are not wrong. KD has a great reputation working with QBs and we will always be in the hunt for transfers and recruits at the position. KD hasn't been here a year and he has recruited 2 four stars and one of the most targeted transfers in the country. I've never been less concerned with our ability to attract QB talent to Tempe.
