I'm not trying to lessen the tragedy here, but this feels like an innapropriate question Carddan. You seem to be saying football in some way caused the mother of Edge's children to pass. Average Joe's have tragedies too.

River, I was trying to make the point that compared to this personal tragedy, football (even as a career) isn't very important. Sure, it felt like he slighted the franchise with his comments, but we will never know the underlying emotions.

"Average Joes have tragedies too"? Read my posts again, I think I explained that I know that.

Football has been very good to him. He should be thankful he doesn't have to endure the difficulties of the regular guy.

I choose to see Edge as a regular guy in this situation. As such, his actions and comments are a lot easier to understand and forgive. Looking in from the outside, I would say that football had been good to him. But, can you understand that from his perspective at that time, perhaps nothing in life had been good to him? If the most important thing were taken away from you would you still say you're glad for all of the material possesions and fame? I believe it must take a very great man to be thankful in his darkest hour. I know it takes a better man than I.

Perhaps I am just looking for an excuse or seeking to rationalize some of my own actions and shortcomings. While I am keenly aware that there is much worse a man can endure, I can't help but feel empathy towards Mr. James. For those who feel it is necessary to point out that he didn't handle his career in a classy manner while the mother of his kids was dying from Leukemia, I pray.

So we are to presume that Boldin isnt classy either? I mean he did take a few potshots at the organization last summer and this offseason.

"They lied to me"

"They promised me a new contract and lied"

"I will never sign a new contract with that organziation, I want to be traded., etc"

Do you really consider those comments which are likely true mind you anywhere near in the same ball park as as a player who says that his teams jersey belongs in the trash can? I certainly don't. Not much differencevbetween that and calling this team the armpit of the NFL. However I most certainly believe Q could have handled his situation better.

Carddan,

Quite frankly sir while edges situation is tragic and sad especially for the children involved. It does not excuse Edges actions or his selfish behavior. He had proven to be pretty selfish long before any of the health issues. Try not to forget that. A sick family member doesnt make you complain about how often your getting the ball. Especially when you were top 5 two years in a row in # of touches.

His comments about the organization lacked class. Having a tragedy in your life doesn't change that. In fact I believe that's when truly classy people shine. Have been around some tragic death in my life. Has never changed who I am or how I act. Have seen how many others deal with it too. All you are doing IMHO is making excuses for edge.

If you have lost respect for me because of that then so be it.

Shane, I haven't lost respect for you and think I know you well enough to know it wouldn't matter to you if I did. You are confident in who you are and I respect that quality. I think the "classy" thing to do is give Edge a pass on this one, you are holding him accountable to your values. I'm okay with that, we just disagree.

I took this personally and it wasn't personal. My bad.

Thanks
