I'm not trying to lessen the tragedy here, but this feels like an innapropriate question Carddan. You seem to be saying football in some way caused the mother of Edge's children to pass. Average Joe's have tragedies too.
River, I was trying to make the point that compared to this personal tragedy, football (even as a career) isn't very important. Sure, it felt like he slighted the franchise with his comments, but we will never know the underlying emotions.
"Average Joes have tragedies too"? Read my posts again, I think I explained that I know that.
Football has been very good to him. He should be thankful he doesn't have to endure the difficulties of the regular guy.
I choose to see Edge as a regular guy in this situation. As such, his actions and comments are a lot easier to understand and forgive. Looking in from the outside, I would say that football had been good to him. But, can you understand that from his perspective at that time, perhaps nothing in life had been good to him? If the most important thing were taken away from you would you still say you're glad for all of the material possesions and fame? I believe it must take a very great man to be thankful in his darkest hour. I know it takes a better man than I.
Perhaps I am just looking for an excuse or seeking to rationalize some of my own actions and shortcomings. While I am keenly aware that there is much worse a man can endure, I can't help but feel empathy towards Mr. James. For those who feel it is necessary to point out that he didn't handle his career in a classy manner while the mother of his kids was dying from Leukemia, I pray.
