I know. I'm just giving an example of a situation where the Cards would consider a trade.

Don't be surprised if it happens on draft day.

I don't see Fitz being traded on draft day. The other team will need to have Fitz restructured before they agree to any trade, and you usually need more time than on draft day to work that out.

Personally, I think i someone offers a starting CB or OLB, RB, T or G and a first round pick, that's an offer that ought to be considered; that should be the ticker to the negotiation table.

Why is everyone saying this? It's simply not true, and it's been proven: The Eagles were willing to trade for Fitz and his contract. The contract was not what caused the deal to fall through.

Eagles offered Sheppard and a 2nd...that's it.
Fitz is worth a lot more...you also have to figure, Sheppard is worthless to them...they have their CB's ...it's hard to throw Sheppard out there and say 'wow'...he's good, Fitz is GREAT.

Exactly. The Cards wanted more than Sheppard and a 1st.

Not great from a team standpoint.

And since the Cardinals suposedly offered him the 3rd highest contract for non-QB's , and the two sides also proceeded with the premise/compromise that the contract would run 5 yrs, where can other teams improve on that offer? A 4 yr deal? That seems to be the sticking point for this org. If they negotiate a 4 yr. deal next yr. the FO will essentially get the same thing as a 5 yr. this yr.

Question is , will Parker and Fitz play along. I say no they won't. A trade will take place next year. If Fitz is sincere about wanting to play here, he should get this done THIS YEAR.

Yeah, but who knows what that "3rd highest contract for non-QBs" really means? It could really mean anything. Randy Moss got an 8 year, $100 million contract. Nate Clements got an 8 year, $80 million contract. Did the Cards offer Fitz a 5 year, $70 million deal? Who knows?

Anything can be read into the numbers that the Cards (my guess is it's Michael Bidwill putting those numbers into the press and not Rod Graves, BTW) are putting out. If I were in Fitz's shoes, I probably would take the $14 million in salary this season unless the Cards offered a deal that knocked my socks off.

Because contrary to all of the rumors that we are reading about this, that his contract is a major issue. How in the hell can it not be? He is in trade rumors BECAUSE of the contract he has now.

That's fine, but that has nothing to do with the claim that Fitz is untradable because of his salary.

I didn't say he was untradeable. (although my post seemed to imply as much) I don't think a team like the Eagles would take on Fitz with his current contract, and won't force him to restructure. I could see a team like Dallas or Washington take on his current contract, thats about it.

I would say that Fitz isn't available just like Shawn Marion wasn't available prior to the Shaq trade. If someone calls with a "knock your socks off" offer, we will listen.

I'm sorry, but if the Shaq for Marion deal would be considered a "knock your socks off" move, then I'd prefer my socks stay where they are and I'll ride or die with Fitz.

Me neither. In my eyes there would be no hesitation to pull the trigger if that were the offer.

I would trade Fitz for Sheppard, this year's second-round pick, and a 2009 2nd that can be accelerated to a 1st should Fitz hit some milestones. I think that might be fair value.

The bidding won't begin until next year. There's nothing to bid against when Fitz isn't available. That's like trying to bid for Peyton Manning right now. Pointless when he isn't available.

Hes available. All they need is the right offer.

I haven't wanted to speculate in all the wild 'Trade Fitz' threads, but now I'll comment. If talks have truly broken off, then heat up the phones and get the best value you can for him. Do everything it takes to get a satisfactory deal. If we can squeeze Lito, this years first, and nexts year's second, do it. If it has to be next year's third, so be it. That's a big IF, speculating on whether or not the talks are definitely dead, but if they are then he needs to go bye-bye, whoever's fault it is.

Then at that rate, you could say that everyone is available if they had the right offer.

Why would the Cardinals take less than 2 first rounders when that is compensation if he were a restricted free agent signing with another team?

Not every team is going to be able to, or willing to take on his contract. Not everyone is a suitor. But the Eagles have demonstrated a willingness to to it; I imagine there are others.

great point.

Then we slightly disagree.

I continue to believe Fitz really wants out of AZ to a contending team and would like to leave with his reputation intact. He is going to get his money no matter how all this shakes out but I think he would gladly take less money from a contending team like the Cowboys or some other team on the brink. He and his agent may very well just be going through the motions of negotiations. He has enough guaranteed money to be set for life already and still has his best years in front of him. He likely prefers to spend his future playing in the playoffs and hopefully the super-bowl. That is not going to happen in AZ anytime real soon. He has already maxed out for the most part on what any team can pay him as a wide receiver. So what does he need now? A ring at age 24 would work. There are takers for a player of his talent and it appears a trade will be easier done than a contract with him. None of this works to the Cards benefit. We have done a lot of thing wrong to get to where we are now. Most notably giving Fitz the power to control his future entirely. Yes, we have made him some good offers (if what we read is true) but we should never have been in this position.
