I wonder what kind of space was free'd up in GB with Favre's retirement.

How does a Greg Jennings or James Jones and GB's 1st rd pick for Fitz sit with everyone?

then why bring it up at all?

Doesn't seem like a very good way prove a point about Fitz being available for trade, when everyone is available?

Then you'll never win a superbowl. They won't do that deal and the Cards can't pay a WR so much money (especially when they have another WR who is almost as good on the roster already).

Huh?

Correct me if I am wrong, but

Fitzgerald >> James Jones and Greg Jennings combined

By trading Fitz for both of those, the Cards would be saving money.

I think that was more of an internet rumor that is no more credible than if you or I went to another message board and asked for Tom Brady for Fitzgerald.

No , he was a Carolina regular, and he brought over here what they were discussing on their board about the possibility of getting Fitz and Peppers' name came up.

There is plenty interest in Fitz. From fans and teams.

Exactly my point. You said "they," which implied at least to me that you were talking about the Carolina organization, not an internet message board.

How about their first, Charles Woodson and Greg Jennings for Fitz.

Sounds like too much for GB to me, in terms of how these things usually go down.

I'd be OK with Jennings and their #1 (30 overall).

I'd have to say yes to that one. I don't think that GB would give up that much for Fitz though.

I continue to believe Fitz really wants out of AZ to a contending team and would like to leave with his reputation intact. He is going to get his money no matter how all this shakes out but I think he would gladly take less money from a contending team like the Cowboys or some other team on the brink. He and his agent may very well just be going through the motions of negotiations. He has enough guaranteed money to be set for life already and still has his best years in front of him. He likely prefers to spend his future playing in the playoffs and hopefully the super-bowl. That is not going to happen in AZ anytime real soon. He has already maxed out for the most part on what any team can pay him as a wide receiver. So what does he need now? A ring at age 24 would work. There are takers for a player of his talent and it appears a trade will be easier done than a contract with him. None of this works to the Cards benefit. We have done a lot of thing wrong to get to where we are now. Most notably giving Fitz the power to control his future entirely. Yes, we have made him some good offers (if what we read is true) but we should never have been in this position.

True , but we don't know if we even approached them about a contract last yr. or they just assumed he wouldn't make the pro-bowl with Leinart and Whiz at the helm.

He did and now we're at the crossroads with him at least a yr. early.

I don't think that there was very much chatter about him restructuring last year.

I led my post with "they'd never do it." In order for a trade to benefit your team, it has to happen in reality.

Sure, I'd love to have both and a 1st and a 2nd. Why not throw in KGB while we're at it, too.

Since 99% of trade scenerios we talk about aren't based on reality, why not. :)

Yeah, except Favre would un-retire if they got Fitz :D

They (the Pack) could only afford one or the other.

I don't think we want to p/u a high $$$$ contact in exchange as well , regarding picks as better trade value, even if they are uncertain. If we can get a starter at WR and picks , that would be another way to go.

At the end of the first you could land either the G Alberts or a promising CB.
Plus another 2nd along with our picks. I think I'd do that.

I don't think we'd be interested in a 30's player who makes alot.

Woodson's contract was front loaded and counts like 3.2 million for 2008 and is about the same for the next 3 years after.

The problem with taking Lito Shepard and their first is that Lito is a one year rent-a-player. He will be a free agent next yaer and will want big $. Thats why we need at least 2 draft picks in the deal.

According to Bordow's column (it's on the board somewhere), Graves & Co. did not anticipate Fitz putting up Pro Bowl numbers when sharing the ball with Q and in a run-first offense.

The front office gambled, and they lost on this one (again). And by "lost," I mean "got fantastic value in the #3 overall pick in the draft to the point where he earned incentives on an already monster contract."
