Big step in the right direction for Denny and the Cardinals.

Bidwills have to bite the bullet and bring in some talented coaches if they want to field a winner.

I think they will.

Also if Jim Haslett is fired what about considering him? He was a successful special teams guy first wasn't he?

Saints | Haslett fired
Mon, 2 Jan 2006 10:35:06 -0800

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the New Orleans Saints have fired head coach Jim Haslett. He was informed of general manager Mickey Loomis' decision Monday morning, Jan. 2, and then Loomis met with owner Tom Benson shortly after to finalize the details. Loomis will begin interviewing candidates immediately. The Saints are expected to announce the move later today.

I don't think he will be here, think he will be HC somewhere next year, but I just wanted to post it...

Pollard retired (i.e. no new contract). Realistically, was anybody fired? I think they were simply not given new contracts.

Players are simply not re-signed (i.e. Kyle Vanden Bosch), but coaches are FIRED when not given a new contract!!!! Go figure.

No cuz pollard was not fired, so Mike J. is wrong as usual. Plus I provided a link????

No Jureki, after the original report, came out and said Pollard might have retired. My fault. I posted it on the other board, not here. Sorry.

I am sure it all depends if Bidwill wants to be cheap with coaches or not. Like he was first time around with all these guys were firing. We might have another open competition for Oline Coach in Training camp, whichever player sucks the most and can't make the team, gets to be coach.

Yeah, I'm sure that's how they make the decisions. NOT

You are right about that. You generally get what you pay for. I can only suspect Lindsey was hired in the first place because he would fit into the budget. Green cannot be goofy enough to hire a coach with zero experience to be a coach of a line that was questionable to start with.

Very true but does Bidwill really have a choice? Can he continue to be cheap? If he truly believes that ass't coaching is truly part of the problem then he almost has to fork over the bucks to hire quality coaches because he needs fans in the seats in the new stadium. Or so it would seem lol.

This season sure should have been a lesson in hiring coaches for who ever controls the purse strings. Perhaps DG should cut his own salary about $500,000 a year and dump it into the coaches budget. I am not so sure he earned his keep. When Brady came up for a new contract he took a very friendly salary over his contract to help the team acquire and keep players.

If more money is needed to attract quality coaches, it's up to Green and Graves to make the case, and for the Bidwill's to pony up... NOT GREEN.

Agree w/Canuck. Green is getting paid well but it is by no means a Parcells contract.

The NFL TV allowance is going up huge, and the Cards will start to contol more revenue sources with the new stadium. Let the team pony up for assistant coaches.

I think we will pay coaches this year, the new revenue from the stadium comes on line just in time to help raise their salaries.

Those suites are money in the bank.

Some Misgivings

  • If the coaches that were let go were so bad, why did DG pick them in the first place? How can we be sure that he won't make the same mistakes in picking their successors.
  • Are the coaches that were let go responsible for acquiring the players they had to work with?
  • Is dismissing these coaches and replacing them with others meant to take the heat off of DG and Graves for a poor season?

I honestly like Green's presser and I don't like him in general.

To be fair to Green, I'd say he was a bit overconfident the last two years and that got wiped away by reality.

I think when he's pressed against the wall he'll use all he has to come out fighting and fix it.

He can pick good coaches, I think circumstances and his own arrogance cost him a bit but he'll address it I'm sure because now his reputation is at stake.
