His first task was to "scan the roster to find ten athletes who wish they were New England Patriot's"........."well I've found those tremendous ten" he says.

My guess: Boldin;Fitzgerald; McCown; Davis; Kendall; Smith; Berry; McKinnon; Dockett and Dansby

Load up and fire......I've got broad shoulders

I think that Dexter Jackson, even though not penciled in to start, is one. I wouldn't be surprised if Wilson was the other. Adrian is a better athlete than most of those guys, he just needs to get his head into the game.

C'mon. That's a fantasy selection.

Emmitt certainly. Boldin, Berry and McKinnon are good choices. Kendall looks like a good choice. McCown knows how to win? He's won one start and that was on a hail mary? Fitzgerald, Dockett and Dansby have never played a game in the NFL. Can't be them. Davis? Seems like a reach.

I believe it's more subtle choices.

King, Jackson and Karl Williams are character guys who have a Super Bowl ring. Ayanbadejo is very likely, as this is not the first time DG has picked him up. Macklin might be (I think Berry, King, Ayanbadejo and Mackin are all DG imports and somewhat likely to be on the list). Didn't DG have a number of good things to say about Wakefield?

from listening to the radio this morning..I thought they were implying that Green indicated that Mccown was one of the 10 - but the other 9 were not mentioned.....that is my interpretation of what I heard on the radio.

Green has been high on Thompson. He wouldn't be one of my ten but he's probably one of Greens.

Smith, Boldin, McKinnon, D. Jackson, Starks, Kendall, Shelton, F. Jones, Hodgins and Thompson. The majority of them because they are veterans and leaders with some of them having had SB experience.

Pete Kendall went from one losing organization (Seattle) to another (Arizona). For money. He's failed to complete a single season as a Cardinal.

I'm not saying that he doesn't want to win, but this guy's a mercenary. He does not want to be a NE Pat, unless they pony up the dough.

1. Josh McCown
2. Kyle Vanden Bosch
3. Fred Wakefield
4. Wendell Bryant
5. Kenny King
6. Shaun King
7. Ronald McKinnon
8. David Macklin
9. Duane Starks
10. Anquan Boldin.

Five of these players are classic overachievers who do more out of "want to" than "can do": KVB, Wakefield, K. King, McKinnon, and Boldin. Three of them have underachieved to this point, but seem motivated to show where they're coming from and proving that they belong: McCown, Bryant, and Starks. The last two are new additions who have had a taste of winning, and want to be a part of more: S. King and Macklin.

I think these are the guys that Denny's talking about.

I agree, but replace Wendell with Emmitt and Starks with Freddie Jones.

The thing is that Emmitt had a chance to win with Tampa, and came here for the bills. That makes me think that he didn't come here to win.

Freddie Jones didn't come here to win, and he hasn't seemed like much of a leader on the field, or anything. In fact, I wonder if maybe he doesn't resent Coach Green, since he was so close to Mac.

Dennis Green in the San Diego paper article:

"I wanted to make sure that Emmitt was on board," Green explained. "He had to accept his role. It was clear that he would. The problem was that Marcel was not ready to accept a leadership role. Emmitt can still play; he's going to make those big guys in our offensive line start blocking."

This is the verbal equivalent of neon sign. Green thinks Smith is one of "The Ten".

Hey, we'll see. Maybe he's on board now. No one can convince me that Emmitt came to Arizona last season in order to actually win, and not to make about two million dollars more than anywhere else as well as get handed a starting job.

This is the same crap that we heard last season about Emmitt. Emmitt and Marcel both suck.

I didn't say he SHOULD be. But, I think it's clear Green thinks he is. We'll see.

K9, you might question Smith's motives, but never question his heart. He came here to win alright and if he's got an ounce of fight left in his body, he'll prove that to everyone this year.

I'm obviously reading Green's comoments out of context, but I don't see a player "wishing they were a new england patriot" as a positive thing. Maybe it's just semantics, but who wants a guy on your squad that wishes he played for someone else? I want a guy who wants to be a World Champion, but I also want him to want to do it in a Cards' uni.

I don't buy that. He didn't need the money he needed respect and we were the only team tht gave it to him.

When the game is in play, I don't question Emmitt's desire to win at all. However, he didn't come to Arizona because it offered him a chance to win one last title, obviously. They gave him an offer he wasn't going to get elsewhere, with the added incentive of it being a home-away-from-home for an ex-Cowboy (a gross miscalculation IMO, since Cowboys fans don't buy Cards season tickets).

? 1.josh mcCown - wants to be a NE pat. why? I would take him off the list. He is truly the only one that has no chance to ever play in NE. Nah he is happy with the wool and the fans he has here in the desert.

Is it possible DG isnt showing all his "cards" and really will have S King to start

I'm thinking he meant "Super Bowl Champion." Who's got the determination, the desire and the drive to get to and win the big dance. That's how I interpreted it.

I'm glad Green is looking at those things. I think that too many players for too long just figured they were the losing AZ Cardinals and, oh well, that's the way it is. I like the new attitude that Green brings now let's take it on the field.

Pariah,

Saying that a player wants to be a New England Patriot is akin to saying that they want to be winners......that's all.....pure and simple

I get what it means, I just don't think it's very careful use of language.

Respect? In the form of what? Dollars and a starting position? Even then, did he come here because he wanted to win a championship, or to get "respect"?

If he came here for "respect", he still didn't come here to win.

I'll never forget coming to Arizona for the home opener in 1996. Every sporting goods and department store in Phoenix had a rack of Emmit Smith Cowboy jerseys. Blue 22.

There wasn't a Cardinal one available anywhere other than the team shop.

I know the Cowboy stuff is gone now but how are the stores doing with Cardinal gear this year?

Denny's Ten

Who the heck knows, but attempting to read Denny's mind, my guess (not necessarily in that order) would be:

1. Josh McCown
2. Larry Fitzgerald
3. Emmitt Smith
4. Anquan Boldin
5. Leonard Davis
6. Pete Kendall
7. Bert Berry
8. Dexter Jackson
9. Darnell Dockett
10. Fred Wakefield

Emmitt never got an offer from TB, he visited but no offer. There was a big fight between Gruden and then GM Rich McKay. Gruden wanted him but the Rich McKay put his foot down. Rich McKay is no longer with the team becuase Gruden hated so much.
