Milford Brown was going to be a back up to whom.....Elton Brown? No, he was brought in to be a run oriented RG from the get go.....and I am very unimpressed with his performance so far.

Wells is an athletic G in a O-Line surrounded by big and slow linemates. I believe that he would shine in an O-Line scheme best suited to smaller linemen. He's out of the water here. His only hope is as a C with us.......even though some think he could be effective as a LT....me I just don't know.

My ideal line right now would look like this:

O.Ross at LT; BIG at LG; Wells at Center; Latui at RG; and Gorin at RT.

If you remember when we were first told we were pursuing Milford Brown, media reports all said Brown was expected to be a backup, a depth guy, with the assumption we were going to get another guy to start either through FA, draft or trade, or internal development. I recall several threads where people were discussing that very thing hey I thought that guy was a backup how come he's the projected starter?

Even Hardy Brown in camp made a post about being pleasantly surprised by Milford in camp, as if he too expected him to be a backup.

It almost makes me sick to type this, but I think the answer is that Josh McCown was better than Warner, at least in our offense. He was more mobile, which allowed him to out run the blitz. His problem was that he wasn't very accurate. Hopefully that is why Leinart can be more successful, mainly because he is both mobile and accurate.

I don't think it is worse if you take out the turnovers.

Last year we averaged 19.4 PPG, this year 17. Last year we had 37 giveaways, this year we're on a pace for 44. The yardage totals are down 50-60 per game but a lot of that is skewed because we've only played 4 games and 2 were against very good defenses.

Seriously if you look at time of possession, first downs etc we're right there we just keep turning the ball over.

Remember last week we were all saying the OL was improved, then the Atlanta fiasco and now we're saying it's worse than last years OL.

My point being even he who apparently had an inside, seemed surprised that Brown was starting as if when we signed him that wasn't the actual plan.

He signed before we drafted Deuce IIRC so unless people just assumed we'd draft a starting guard in this draft, it appeared that people were expecting us to go out and sign another guard and we didn't.

Nope you have to adjust for the 3 games Josh played in but didn't start. He started 6, Kurt started 10, so you want to look at a direct comparison when they started.

The problem is neither NFL.com or ESPN seems to have the splits in place for games started and I don't think CBS Sportsline does either, just a bunch of zeros so you have to do all the math yourself. IIRC, Kurt threw for more yards per game than Josh as a starter but not by all that much.

It was just a week ago that someone pulled it up.

You'd think that even if everyone bit on the fake that we'd at least have one guy dpgging it or out of position for the fake---but noooooo, this is the one run play that dagnabbit, we were gonna stop and put all 11 guys in the hole.

Yeah good question. We finished what 10th in the NFL in both O and D last year??? According to Jurecki ( he said he spoke to a couple of NFL scouts from opposing teams) the book is out on how to stop the Cards offense. Jam the WR's at the line and throw everything but the kitchen sink at Warner and knock his jock off. Then he will get rattled and disoriented and turn the ball over. By jamming them and blitzing them Warner won't have time to find other receivers. Also they can stack the box that way and stop the run. Words to that effect anyway.

Well I guess everybody else but me already had this figured out huh? A couple a games ago maybe??? I thought I was really breaking some news and shedding some valuable insight on this!

Back on topic: What differences do you see in the coaching style and philosophy of Herm Edwards compared to Dick Vermeil?

As for your question...

We're still kind of getting used to Herm. He's more of a defensive-minded coach, very much in the Shottenheimer mold. However, it is yet to be proven with this team whether or not he has Marty's classic conservatism that ends up losing key games (although Jets fans love to come to our boards and predict DOOOOOOOOM!). It's interesting to see that our D under Herm has improved so dramatically (although you *could* see some flashes of it last year).

Coach Vermiel was very much a player's coach - sometimes to a fault - and rewarded loyalty and hard work with field time. Very offensive minded, and thus, the Chiefs defense over his era was really, really bad. I tend to prefer watching a really good defense work, so it was frustrating for the Chiefs to lose games in which they scored over 30 points.

So, it's a team in transition. I think we'll see the "real" Herm as the team gels - and it is doing that, at least, improving every week.
