than why would you PAY him like a TE who's going to make an impact? And why didn't he sign last year with anyone when he was a FA... or the year before?

I really don't see how you're comparing him in any way shape or form to the second best TE in the game when he's literally NEVER shown that level of play.

1. check his stats in Cinci. Averaged 56 over 5 seasons. His first season in AZ was following back surgery and lengthy rehab. He and CP were increasingly on the same page last season.
2. Word was that he turned down good offers to come back to AZ last season.
3. We don't know the full details of this deal, yet.

Jack Doyle - Indy
3-years - $19m + $2m in incentives
2016: 59/584 - had 35 catches in his previous 3 seasons

On the radio they said that PP is basically the only contract we have we can restructure and it would get us like 7 mil max. Not sure on numbers, but that's what I heard.

Appreciate the information. I'd like for the Cardinals to have some extra dollars to sign players.

No reason we can't extend both Fitz & Palmer and get cap room for this year. Same for PP21

Except that it doesn't benefit Fitz for him to sign an extension if he's undecided and likely not returning in 2018

He's a guy, IMO... and giving that guy 6 million bucks seems like a lot when you look at what that 6 million could have gone toward if we lose CC.

I think you are stuck in the past. This is the going rate for TEs these days.

The Colts just re-signed Jack Doyle for 3 years $21M. Doyle has averaged 196 yards and 2 TDs per year over his brief 4 year career. He just had his best season with 585 yard and 5 TDs.

Vernon Davis just got $15M over 3 years from the Redskins and he is 33 year old. Davis hasn't done much since 2013 (over the last 4 years he has averaged 300yrds and 1 TD per year). Not to mention Davis is way past his prime.

Seems like a lot but that is what average TEs are making and I think Keim kind of panicked.

At least with Gresham you are getting a guy who is just entering his prime. Not to mention that he is very familiar with Carson Palmer and knows BA offense.

And passionate about playing hard with the Cardinals.

I think what we saw over the last four games of last year offensively is what the Arians offense is evolving into. Less dependent on receiver production, more dependent on RB and TE production. Gresham's play at the end of last season was some of the best TE play in years for the Cardinals. If he can replicate that going forward, the Cardinals don't need a TE.

A couple thoughts...

6 mil is the new 4 mil

It is better to have Gresham on the roster heading into the draft than not.

I don't believe this take us out of the OJ Howard sweepstakes.

I do believe it is more likely they take a player like Adam Shaheen or George Kittle in round 3 though.

QB is now a very real option at 13.

Keep the faith on Howard Chopper. :)

I need further explanation on how re-signing Gresham means drafting a QB at 13 becomes a real option. Thanks.

The Pats just traded for TE Dwayne Allen of the Colts. Cap hit in 2017: $5M. Unreal.

Dwayne Allen is never healthy and spends more time I believe on the bench... I do not blame the Colts

He had 406 yards last year which isn't much. People were complaining what we just gave Gresham. It's very much in line with his production. Allen's average on his contract is 6mil/yr.

I have always been drawn to his potential from a Fantasy Football aspect and have drafted him and always regret taking him haha. But this is what is baffling, if you look up his stats, he starts most games but if you watch him he's always out of the game with some dink of a injury and can't seem to stay on the field... I can say that Gresham is a hell of a lot tougher than Allen

it helps the team field more talent, that benefits him doesn't it?

sorry... this just isn't true. A guy who's averaged 400 yards and 4 TDs per season over the course of his entire career is NOT a good TE by any stretch. He's ok... not much more, not much less. He'll make some big plays... he'll drop some big plays and he'll bring some toughness... with a side of stupidity that costs us with head-scratching personal fouls. Even saying he's solid is being generous. He's a guy, IMO... and giving that guy 6 million bucks seems like a lot when you look at what that 6 million could have gone toward if we lose CC.

it ain't hindsight @cardncubfan when you're bitching about Gresham getting that ridiculous contract and money that could have gone toward CC at the time it happened.

So glad we locked up an average TE and let CC go to the Jags.

Why the hell did we let Fells go?? Every time I saw him thrown at... He simply caught it... and rumbled for 5-10 more yards, He was like Christian Okoye playing tight end!
