Hoping we draft Tyler Wilson but believe picking him at #7 is too high. Trading down might work but hard to say how far back without losing him. I agree Wilson probably won't make it to round 2.

Keep Kolb at a reduced salary and get rid of Skelton once and for all. We aren't going anywhere next year anyway so let the QB we draft learn at a proper pace.

this is completely insane and why I can never take anything you say remotely seriously. The Steelers... are going to give up a potential HOF QB for a high pick in what everyone acknowledges is a QB deficient draft? Seriously... how the hell can anyone even begin to convince themselves this is even a remote possibility?

Your over valuing Roethlisberger a bit at this point in his career.

What makes it feasible is the way rookie QBs have stormed the NFL in recent years---everyone is looking for their next QBOF, and while it doesn't appear right now that this year's QB class is as talented as last year's, what will give teams pause is that players like Andy Dalton and Russell Wilson have proven that they can come right in, start and even lead their team to the playoffs as rookies.

Which means there are plenty of teams out there kicking themselves for not drafting Dalton or Wilson earlier...like the Cardinals for one.

I don't think teams will want to risk that the QB they like will make it into the second and third rounds---there is such a premium on the position---

NFL GMs and HCs could care less about the pundits and their projections...

While this is true, I believe that most of the movement for these QB's will occur right before the 2nd Rd. for the teams who are targeting them. They will come off in the 21-32 range for the teams looking for one in a trade, imo.

Mitch,-----I seem to get the sense that BA will not have anywhere near the trouble with the QB position that others here have had before him. I say that for several reasons.

First, he seems to be the kind of guy who breaks things down to simplest forms, then instills perfection by proper repetition of the skill set needed to get the results. From what he just accomplished with his first attempt at being a HC, albiet an interim one, he seems to have found the secret to getting the ball down-field in chunks instead of dink and dunk, and he knows that several things have to happen in order for this to happen. One of them is throwing out of play action, (which we almost never did).

He has said that a healthy QB with 'grit' is necessary. To that end, he has already said that he WILL produce an O-line that WILL learn the proper techniques of blocking, (be that for the run, or for pass protection). That is hugely different from what we have previously experienced. He has gone on record, (when asked by a media type during his presser), about who the O-line coach will be. He responded that there might be as many as three O-line coaches, or at least as many as are needed to teach and instill the PROPER way to block. He knows that all our QB's, (Warner included took a tremendous beating). I believe he first fixes that, and that he either gets it done with the players we already have, or sends them packing for younger, more prone to learning proper technique and habits, than what we have.

He also seems to know that all QB's can increase their accuracy, simply by adhering to proper technique with footwork and set-up to deliver the ball. I believe that ANY QB who has the determination to perfect his own bad habits is a strong candidate to succeed for BA, provided he has the necessary arm-strength, and 'grit' to hang in there and learn to be consistent with good throwing habits.

I believe that Skelton is a viable candidate in his eyes, provided he can fix his bad throwing habits. I also believe that Kolb has already shown him that he has the 'grit' that BA speaks of, and that if Kolb can clean up any bad throwing habits, (or reading habits when it comes to defenses), he too will be a viable candidate. I would also think that Hoyer, and to a lesser extent Lindley, could also become viable candidates. I would also suspect that, should he become available, Alex Smith who has already shown great improvement under Jim Harbaugh's tutelage, might also be a viable candidate. That guy is tough as nails, and most certainly has the 'grit' BA speaks of. If he is willing to put in the work to clean up his bad throwing habits, he might just excell in a system under BA.

I believe that BA has discovered that going back to basics is the secret to playing error-free football. I believe that he knows that if he can get the player, (no matter what position he plays), to buy into what BA's coaches are teaching, they will learn to do a few things VERY WELL; and that this will lead to "Cardinals not causing Cardinals to lose", whether that is blocking, tackling, throwing the ball, running routes, running the ball without fumbling, and without overrunning the hole etc. I believe this, because BA himself seems to believe in it, and has finally had the chance to prove this to himself and to the NFL with his stint as interim HC of the Colts this past season. I believe that BA just might do what Whiz wanted to do when he came here, but couldn't accomplish, because he either had the coaches who couldn't teach it, or he circumvented his coaches by extolling his key players to get their peers to fix the problems for him and his coaches. That ultimately led to the same players making the same mistakes week after week after week, without any real progress in how they played the game.

While I think the Cards end up with Kolb starting - MB doesnt want to give up on him yet - I really think you have to consider Geno Smith at #7. The guy has all the tools and with Arians coaching him up he could really flourish after a year on the bench if Kolb starts.

I am tired of trying to take fliers on guys in the late rounds, give Arians something to work with - a guy with smarts, athelticism, arm strength and accuracy, like Geno - and in 1-2 years we could have our QBOF. Dont overthink this Cards FO, just grab him.

If Geno Smith falls to #7, I hope we take him. He is the number one rated qb in the draft by most analysts. The thing I like most about him is his accuracy.
Last year 71% and career of 67%. We have been drafting qbs with 55% college accuracy ratings. You don't teach accuracy. That is what made Warner great.

If he falls to us, 6 GM's need to be fired.

the guy who just had a 97 passer rating and threw for 26 TDs and 8 picks in only 13 games? And has led the Steelers to a winning record for how many straight years... and is only 30, just about to turn 31 years old? no i'm not.

the Steelers would be laughed off the face of the planet to trade a franchise, two time winning (three time playing) Super Bowl champion who's still in the prime of his career, especially trading him so they can get ANOTHER franchise QB... in a draft where there are no franchise QBs.

Did you ever think the Colts would move on from Peyton Manning?

um... after missing an entire season with 4 surgeries... at age 36... and with the rights to the grestest QB prospect since John Elway, not only did I ever think the Colts would move on from Peyton, I EXPECTED them to.

Ben is 5 years younger, isn't the injury concern and the #7 pick in a QB deficient draft is no way shape or form having the number 1 pick for the best QB prospect in 25 years.

BR has given the Rooneys cause for concern on number of different levels---

Geno Smith played right in Pitt's backyard. If the Steelers felt that they would like to do what SF did and go with a younger QB---who knows?

Having the #7 and #17 picks would give the Steelers bargaining power and the immediate wherewithal to make a move for Geno Smith.

they would be the laughingstock of the league to make that move. the Niners went with their move because Alex Smith was a game-manager. Big Ben is one of the best QBs in football and a two-time Super Bowl MVP. The situations are in no way shape or form even close to each other.

He's a good QB yes. And Arians could do some stuff with him, yes. But he's injured an awful lot now, yes. He's got some personal issues, yes. :D

I'd rather have a fresh start, new QB, new coach. Didn't you see the 2012 season? ;)

With the 7th and the 17th picks---a move to the top 2 picks in the draft is very possible, even likely based on the past couple of years.

great.. a move to the top 2 picks... in a draft where everyone is saying the last place you want to be is the top 2 picks.

again, if you had a Luck sitting there in the draft... and Big Ben was 5 years older and coming off surgeries that not only wiped out an entire year but put his entire career in questioned, you'd have a point. But NONE of that is the case, so you don't.

No to Roethlisberger.

He's a no-spring-chicken 32, has a history of injuries both playing the game and away from it and a rap sheet. We need a QBOF who is going to be the base we build years of winning on.

The future may be now but our future cannot be with that particular QB. Roethlisberger a Cardinal? That would be a revolting development.

I think we need to draft a QB at or before our 2nd pick (#38). Unless we're taking Smith or Wilson I want our 1st to be Chance Warmack. Then we could wait for Glennon or Dysert at #38 or obviously trade into the 1st to get one. Gotta think the Bills or Jets take a QB at 8-9.

Early QB Prediction:

Geno Smith---top 3 pick---Eagles (from Jax) @ #2.

Tyler Wilson---top 10---Cardinals @ #7.

Mike Glennon---top 10---Jets @ #8.

Matt Barkley---top 20---Cowboys @ #18.

Tyler Bray---top 32.

Ryan Nassib---top 35.

Zac Dysert---top 40.

Landry Jones---top 75.
Doubtful..

In the last 20 drafts the most QBs to be selected in the first 2 rounds has been 6 and some of those drafts were very deep in QB talent. I expect 4-5 QBs to be selected in the first 2 rounds. Some will rise and some will fall.

For what it's worth, Todd McShay during the NFLPA College Bowl opined that this year's crop of QB's came nowhere near last year's group, with possibly no more than 11 being draft worthy. The only Top 10 prospect (with some reservations) was Geno Smith. Todd wasn't sure that the next guy, Barkley, would even be drafted in the 1st round.

32 is not old for an elite QB.

Look at Manning, Brady, Warner when he played, Brees.

Sure, you can't expect those guys to play at a high level for another decade, but I bet you'd take the opportunity to have any of them on the Cards. All it takes is one season to win a Super Bowl and at 32, Ben could easily gave us 4-5 more great years. That's a long time in the NFL.

Him actually being available is another story..

For that reason I believe at least three will be selected in the first round, it is such a important position that teams could care less how this class stacks up to others. There could even be more if a run on the position begins after the second one is picked. If you feel a player is your guy at QB, which overrides all the other positions in order to win games, you do not think about making it a good value pick.

During the 3 games Ben missed their offense could barely get a 1st down, they turned the ball over FOURTEEN TIMES in those 3 games. Anyone who thinks they are going to deal him for a draft pick in THIS years class is huffing glue.

IMHO, Rothlisberger is NOT going anywhere. The Steelers are no fools and know that once you have an elite caliber QB, you do not let him go anywhere. You only need to look at the last 3 Cards seasons without Warner and the QB fiasco ochestrated by Whistenhunt and his Nazi type managment style of dumping QBs who publicly disagree with him or just plain disagree with him (Skelton).

As for the college guys, come on, without the Combine data stuff to look at and without being able to get an eyeball look at them, its a crapshoot. That's why Brady fell in the rounds due to the nonsense he encountered at Michigan or Wilson or Kape escaped real scrutiny.

As for in-house QBs, the only viable verticle QBs on hand are Skelton and Hoyer. Kolb is an excellent WCO QB, but with his injury history and contract, it is iffy whether BA wants to take any time with him. As for Lindley, his college completion average of 55% and his failures to make any long passing plays this past season make be sufficient cause to eliminate him. But then again, his pretty spiral and his ability to talk the talk might lure BA in as it did Whisenhunt who was prone to that as he showed with Max Hall. It is also clear that BA will not give any QB currently under-contract a lot of time to show him that the improvement BA wants from them is possible. If he thinks not, BAM, they will be gone.

The only real prospects for QB success are to grab Flynn or Smith when they are released later this year. Flynn might be the better verticle game candidate than Smith, but it will be interesting to see if BA is interested in either one of them.

No one wants to hear it but the QB Arians described in that AzCentral article? With Brains and Grit being prioritized over physical tools? Who can place the ball on the back shoulder?

Matt Barkley.

Here is what I believe is going to happen. BA is going to look at the film. Then all four QB are going to come in and be interviewed by BA. That is going to happen before FA starts. That way the Cardinals can make the best Cardinal decision. With that said I expect the Cardinals to draft a QB and BA to bring in one of his QB that he had on roster before. Someone like Leftwich.

His throws lack the velocity needed to make those throws in the NFL. But I get your drift. A lot of these QB's coming out remind me of either Scud Anderson, or Jimmy Claussen. None are worthy of a 1st round choice but some nutcase GM will make the leap. I hope it aint us.
